Now, ASP G90 and high gloss kaolins join this list as two more examples of how BASF products can cost-effectively improve the performance and appearance of paints and coatings. ASP G90 & high gloss kaolins feature: Up to 10% TiO 2 reduction at equal opacity for reduced total formula cost Superior gloss and less haze compared with competitive kaolin products Lower cost and reduced VOC through resin reduction Improved optical properties versus other competitive kaolin products Ease of dispersion Better dry handling and less dusting Improved mar and scuff resistance with excellent clarity in clear varnish systems Product description ASP G90 and are microfine particle size hydrous kaolins produced by an innovative technology developed by BASF. This new technology produces a very fine particle size product with a narrow particle size distribution that provides high gloss and optical properties that are superior to competitive kaolin products. ASP G90 high gloss kaolin is pulverized to provide ease of dispersion, high Hegman grind and TiO 2 extension in architectural and industrial coatings. provides the same performance in water-borne systems only and is available in spraydried bead form for easier handling and less dusting. Application information ASP G90 high gloss kaolin is designed for use in architectural and industrial, water-borne and solvent-borne, gloss and semigloss coatings. ASP G90 can also be used to provide mar and scuff resistance in clear coat varnishes without affecting clarity. is specially designed for a broad range of water-borne paints and coatings. Interior semigloss latex paint with ASP G90 & exhibit: 10% TiO 2 reduction Higher gloss than TiO 2 and competitive kaolin Significant cost savings Improved opacity versus competitive gloss kaolin With ASP G90 and high gloss kaolins, TiO 2 loadings were reduced 10% while maintaining opacity and gloss versus the control for overall cost savings. Compared to the competitive high gloss kaolin product most commonly used in the industry, ASP G90 and ASP G92 provide better opacity (see Chart 1) and significantly better 20 and 60 gloss (see Charts 2 and 3). Water-reducible alkyd high gloss enamel with ASP G90 exhibits: Higher gloss Better opacity Potential resin extension at equal gloss ASP G90 high gloss kaolin was used as a TiO 2 extender in this water reducible high gloss enamel without affecting gloss. In the same formulation, ASP G90 provides better opacity (see Chart 4) and superior gloss (see Charts 5 and 6) versus the competitive high gloss kaolin. Solvent-borne clear varnish with ASP G90 exhibits: Improved mar and scuff resistance Improved chemical resistance Excellent clarity Better gloss than the competitive gloss kaolin Historically, kaolins have not typically been used in clear varnish coats due to their adverse effect on clarity. However, because of its microfine particle size and very narrow particle size distribution, ASP G90 high gloss kaolin is recommended for use in clear varnish industrial applications for improved abrasion, mar and scuff resistance while maintaining excellent clarity. ASP G90 provides higher gloss (see Charts 13 and 14) compared with the competitive kaolin in this solvent-borne clear varnish formula.
