Principle of operation The process medium can flow through the butterfly valve in either direction. The flow coefficient is determined by the vane s opening angle, i.e. the free area between the vane and the body. Tight shutoff is facilitated by means of the laminated metal/graphite packing which is inserted in the vane and the metallic seat ring. The sealing ring flexibly adapts to the seat design. The triple eccentric design minimizes friction. Fail-safe position The pneumatic rotary actuators are available with two fail-safe positions which become effective either when there is a pressure drop across the actuator or when the air supply fails. "Valve CLOSED without supply air" The butterfly valve is closed when the air supply fails. "Valve OPEN without supply air" The butterfly valve is opened when the air supply fails.
