The attractive hull is made from durable, injection-molded ABS and decorated with your choice of two raceinspired, pre-applied trim schemes. Plus, the transmitter comes with a steering wheel that matches the trim colors of the boat, so when you re out racing with your friends you ll never have a problem figuring out which transmitter goes with your boat. The Rivos XS comes with a 2-in-1 receiver/speed control installed and is powered by a 180-size water-cooled motor. Both are protected from moisture by a sealed, water-resistant hatch that covers all the internal components. The XS also includes two pre-installed trim tabs that help the boat run smoothly over the water and a turning fin that keeps it from spinning out in even the fastest of turns. The Rivos XS is a RTR (Ready-To-Run) boat that comes 100% factory-assembled and includes a 2-channel, 2.4GHz radio that features fully proportional steering and throttle control, a 360mAh 7.4V Li-ion battery and a charger that conveniently plugs into a USB outlet. All you need to add are the AA batteries needed to operate the transmitter, and you can be racing around your pond or pool just minutes after opening the box! 2

Contents HLNB0068 HLNB0070 HLNB0069 HLNB0065 Rivos XS Boat RTR (HLNB0050) 7.4V, 360mAh Li-ion Battery USB Li-ion DC Charger 2-Channel 2.4GHz Transmitter, Red/White Propellers (2 provided) FCC Information This device complies with part 15 of the FCC rules. Operation is subject to the following two conditions: (1) This device may not cause harmful interference, and (2) this device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation. Caution: Changes or modifications not expressly approved by the party responsible for compliance could void the user s authority to operate the equipment. This product contains a radio transmitter with wireless technology which has been tested and found to be compliant with the applicable regulations governing a radio transmitter in the 2.400GHz to 2.4835GHz frequency range. The associated regulatory agencies of the following countries recognize the noted certifications for this product as authorized for sale and use: USA, UK, EU and AUS Safety Precautions Failure to use this product in the intended manner as described in the following instructions can result in damage and/or personal injury. A Radio Controlled (RC) boat is not a toy! If misused it can cause serious bodily harm and damage to property. Keep items that could become entangled in the propeller away from the propeller, including loose clothing, tools, etc. Be especially sure to keep your hands, face and other parts of your body away from the propeller. As the user of this product you are solely and wholly responsible for 3

operating it in a manner that does not endanger yourself and others or result in damage to the product or the property of others. This model is controlled by a radio signal that is subject to possible interference from a variety of sources outside your control. This interference can cause momentary loss of control so it is advisable to always keep a safe distance from objects and people in all directions around your model as this will help to avoid collisions and/or injury. Never operate your model if the voltage of the batteries in the transmitter is too low. Always operate your model in an open area away from obstacles, people, vehicles, etc. Carefully follow the directions and warnings for this and any optional support equipment (chargers, rechargeable batteries, etc.). Keep all chemicals, small parts and all electronic components out of the reach of children. As much as possible, avoid water exposure to all internal electronic components, parts, etc. Li-ion Battery Warnings IMPORTANT NOTE: Lithium Ion batteries are significantly more volatile than the alkaline, NiCd or NiMH batteries also used in RC applications. All instructions and warnings must be followed exactly to prevent property damage and/or personal injury as mishandling of Li-ion batteries can result in fire. By handling, charging or using the included Li-ion battery you assume all risks associated with Liion batteries. If you do not agree with these conditions please return the complete product in new, unused condition to the place of purchase immediately. Although the 360mAh 2 Cell/2S 7.4V 25C Li-ion Battery (HLNB0068) included with the Rivos XS is intended to be charged safely using the included 2 Cell/2S 7.4V USB Li-ion Balance Charger (HLNB0070) you must read the following safety instructions and warnings before handling, charging or using the Li-ion battery. You MUST charge the Li-ion battery in a safe area away from flammable materials. NEVER charge the Li-ion battery unattended at any time. When charging the battery you should ALWAYS remain in constant observation to monitor the charging process and react immediately to any potential problems that may occur. After using/discharging the battery you must allow it to cool to ambient/room temperature before recharging. To charge the Li-ion battery you MUST use only the included Li-ion USB charger or other dedicated Li-ion battery charger. Failure to do so may result in a fire causing property damage and/or personal injury. DO NOT use a NiCd or NiMH charger. If at any time during the charge or discharge process the battery begins to balloon or swell, discontinue charging or discharging immediately. Quickly and safely disconnect the battery, then place it in a safe, open area away from flammable materials to observe for at least 15 minutes. Continuing to charge or discharge a battery that has begun to balloon or swell can result in a fire. A battery that has ballooned or swollen even a small amount must be removed from service completely. Store the battery at room temperature, approximately 68 77 Fahrenheit (F), and in a dry area for best results. When transporting or temporarily storing the battery, the temperature range should be from approximately 40 100 F. Do not store the battery or model in a hot garage, car or direct sunlight 4

whenever possible. If stored in a hot garage or car the battery can be damaged or even catch fire! Do not over-discharge the Li-ion battery. Discharging the Li-ion battery too low can cause damage to the battery resulting in reduced power, flight duration or failure of the battery entirely. Li-ion cells should not be discharged to below 3.0V each under load. The control unit has low voltage cutoff (LVC) protection. When the battery voltage drops below a set point the throttle is gradually reduced. At this point the battery should be recharged. Battery Install and Charging Install Batteries in Transmitter Slide the battery door off of the bottom of the transmitter and install 4-AA batteries (not included). Make sure to check the orientation of the cells, the correct orientation is indicated inside the battery box. Slide the battery box door back in place. Charge 2-Cell Drive Battery Locate the USB charger and the 360mAh Li-ion battery pack. Plug the USB charger into suitable USB power source and a red LED will light indicating power. Plug the female balance connector from the charger into the male balance connector on the battery. When the charge is complete a green LED will light in addition to the red LED. For faster charging we suggest purchasing a Radient charger - either the Primal Charger (RDNA0001) or Ascend Charger (RDNA0002). Both are available exclusively at your local Hobby Town store. 5

Transmitter Details The Rivos includes a pistol grip 2-channel transmitter equipped with 2.4GHz technology, digital trim and servo reversing. Steering Dual Rate Switch Bind Button LED Steering Wheel Rudder Trim Antenna On/Off Steering Reverse Throttle Trigger Throttle Reverse Battery Box ON 70/30 OFF 50/50 Power Switch is located on the upper end panel of the pistol grip. Slide the switch UP for ON and DOWN for OFF. When ON the power indicator LED will light red. Adjusts Dual Rates for the steering channel. The 70/30 position is High Rates and the 50/50 position is Low Rates. When driving at high speed the low rates will reduce the chance of tipping over. Bind Button Servo reversing switches. If the direction of travel on the rudder is backwards, slide the steering reverse switch to the other position. Same principle for the throttle reverse switch. 6 Press and hold the bind button while turning on the transmitter. The transmitter will emit a beeping noise. Plug the 2 cell Li-ion battery into the boat. The speed control will blink and then go solid. When the LED is solid you are bound and ready to go.

Preparing your Boat Slide your fully charged drive battery into the hull and attach to the hook-and-loop fastner in the hull. With your transmitter turned on, plug the drive battery into the speed control. Latched Place the top hatch in position and rotate the latch counterclockwise 90 to secure. Important Do not arm the boat motor until you have placed the boat into the water. Once in the water, arm the motor by pulling the throttle trigger to the rear and back to neutral. The next time that you pull the throttle trigger to the rear the motor will start. Low Voltage Cutoff The Rivos XS speed control is equipped with a low voltage cutoff (LVC) circuit. When the Li-ion battery voltage drops too low, the speed control will shut off power to the motor. Motor function can be restored by cycling the throttle trigger off and then back on at a low power setting. At this point you should return the boat to shore and recharge the drive battery. Repeatedly attempting to continue operation may drop the battery voltage to damaging levels. 7

Place your boat in the water. How to Operate your Boat Pull the trigger toward you and back to neutral to arm the motor and then pull it towards you to make the boat go forward. The speed control is proportional, the farther you pull it the faster the boat will go. Release the trigger to stop. To initiate a right turn, rotate the steering wheel clockwise while holding the trigger to the speed setting you desire. To initiate a left turn, rotate the steering wheel counter-clockwise while holding the trigger to the speed setting you desire. For the smoothest turns rotate the steering wheel slowly and make your transitions at a smooth even pace. After Running When you have finished running your Rivos XS it is important to follow these steps. Unplug the battery from the ESC Turn off the transmitter Tip: Remove the battery from the boat Always store the boat with the hatch removed to prevent mold and mildew growth Wipe excess water off with a soft cloth 8

Maintenance and Inspection Check for excess water in the hull after every use. If you do find excess water in the hull, pay special attention to installing the top hatch, ensuring a tight seal. Always unplug the battery after each use and charge it outside of the hull. After use, store the boat in the shade or inside to prevent the sun fading the decoration. Never use chemicals to clean the boat as this may also damage the finish. The boat is designed for fresh water use ONLY. If the boat comes in contact with brackish or salty water, remove battery and wash the boat throughly with fresh water as soon as possible to remove the salt residue. After use clean the boat using fresh water. Make sure you dry the boat inside and out using a dry cloth or paper towel. This will keep the hull and hatch of the boat looking clean and new. When you are finished using the boat, make sure you remove the batteries from both the boat and the transmitter. This will prevent damage in the event of a battery leak. The main prop shaft requires perodic lubrication with marine grease. See www.helion-rc.com for maintenance updates and videos.
