Hydronic Fan Coil Units MEET SPECIFIC HEATING AND COOLING REQUIREMENTS Rittling Fan Coil Units are available in a wide range of models and air flow arrangements to satisfy the demands of your heating and cooling specifications. UNIFORM APPEARANCE All Rittling Fan Coil Units have the same height and the same depth per model only the length varies for different size units. This provides a consistent, attractive appearance when an installation calls for units of various lengths. FLEXIBLE SAFE INSTALLATION Rittling Fan Coil Units are available in floor, wall and ceilingmounted models. A black pedestal base on floor models provides clearance for most mopboards. The base can be repainted in the field if needed. All Rittling ceiling models come with a hinged front cover and safety chain(s) for simple and safe maintenance. EASY TO OPERATE Rittling Fan Coil Units feature threespeed control settings and optional s. The user has fingertip control over fan speed and room temperature. (Note: on ceiling units, speed switch assembly shipped loose.) DURABLE Front panels and tops are constructed of 6gauge cold rolled steel to withstand impact and rugged treatment. FACTORY ASSEMBLED OPTIONS COLOR All Rittling Fan Coil Units come with an ivory powder paint finish. Additional standard colors are available. Furnish a color chip for custom color. CABINET Construction: 4 gauge front panel only and complete 4 gauge cabinet construction available for heavyduty applications. End Pockets: 6" Left hand and/or right hand end pocket extensions allow additional room for the mounting of valve packages and are required for 4pipe valve packages containing 3way control valves. Access doors are located in standard position. COILS High Capacity Chilled Water: 4row or 3row (Low Profile) cooling coil available to provide higher cooling ouput. Hot Water: Row hot water heating coil used in 4pipe systems. Steam: Row steam heating coil also available to provide high heat output for use with 20 psig steam maximum. Automatic Air Vent: In lieu of manual air vent. SECURITY Security Access Doors: Tamper proof fasteners are available with an allen head style. A special tool is required to open the doors. GRILLES Steel Bar Grille: Welded steel, epoxy painted, pencilproof bar grille. Double Deflection Grille Discharge: Aluminum framed grille with adjustable blades in two directions. (FF200, FS 200, FW260, FC360, FC400 models only) DRAIN PAN 304 Stainless steel. Options & Accessory Equipment FILTERS Cleanable Aluminum Mesh: " Aluminum mesh filter complete with aluminum frame and drain holes. LEVELING LEGS Leveling legs are available to adjust pitch on uneven floors. MOTORS Alternate Voltage: 208V, 240V and 277V supply voltage converted to 20V/60/ by transformer. High Static Motor: 550 RPM, 20V/60/ permanent split capacitor motor. Standard airflow maintained with external static pressure of up to 0.2" water column. Power Supply Cord: Heavyduty grounded plugin cord conveniently connects unit to standard wall outlet. Motor Quick Connect: Molex connectors are provided on each motor for ease of removal, located at motor. Disconnect Switch: 20V/60/ (5A), 277V/60/ (5A), 277V/60/ (30A) or 600V/60/3 (40A). Installed on face of electrical junction box. Located in electrical end pocket of vertical units and on electrical control side of horizontal units. Motor Starter: 20V/60Hz/PH, Manual reset motor starter with toggle switch and thermal overload protection. Unit can only be restarted by resetting toggle switch. Starter comes with an overload protection set at 25% of full load current. Located in electrical end pocket of vertical units and on electrical control side of horizontal units. Not available with electric heat. Contact factory for alternate voltages. GFCI: 20V/60Hz/PH, ground fault circuit interrupter, unit mounted, field wired. LEVEL SWITCH Clipped to horizontal drain pan or vertical auxiliary drain pan. 20V or 24V power. Deenergerizes fan upon rising water level. DAMPERS 025% Manual Outside Air Damper:Includes damper, manually adjustable through return air opening. Located in bottom of floor mounted units only. 025% Motorized Outside Air Damper: Adjustable from 0% to 25% outside air. Furnished with a 20V/60Hz/PH synchronous motor that is wired to the blower to automatically open the damper when the fan starts. When the power is off or interrupted, the damper returns to the closed position. Located in bottom of floor mounted units only. 6

Options & Accessory Equipment CONTROLS Valve Control By Air Temperature: Remote or unit mounted monitors air temperature in the space for heating and cooling applications. When the temperature rises above set point during cooling and drops below set point during heating, the cooling or heating valve will open. When the space temperature is satisfied, the valve will close. The blower runs continuously based on 3 speed switch positions. A remote temperature sensor is offered with all options for remote mounting in space or in return air stream. Fan Control By Air Temperature: Remote or unit mounted monitors air temperature in the space for heating and cooling applications. When the temperature rises above setpoint during cooling and drops below set point during heating, the cooling or heating valve will open and the fan will turn on. When the space temperature is satisfied, the valve will close, and the fan will turn off. A remote temperature sensor is offered with all options for remote mounting in space or in return air stream. Valve Control By Water Temperature: Aquastat monitors the temperature of water leaving the coil. It will delay opening the cooling / heating valve until a predetermined water temperature is reached. Note: Low profile units require valve or fan control to minimize potential of condensate dripping from coil into blower housings when fan is not running. Remote Temperature Sensor: Recommended with all unit mounted s. Operates with all standard Rittling control packages with the removal of JP jumper internal to. 24V Transformer (24VT): 40VA, 20V/24V transformer is unit mounted with 20V prewired, ready for 24V field wiring. 24T3 includes 3speed switch. 24V Relay (24VR): Relay is unit mounted, ready for field wiring. 24R3 includes 3speed switch. 24V Fan Center (24FC): Includes a 40VA, 20V/24V transformer and one () 24V relay. Fan center is unit mounted with 20V prewired, ready for 24V field wiring. 24F3 includes 3speed switch. 24V Relay Pack (24RP): Includes a 40VA, 20V/24V transformer and three (3) 24V relays. Relay pack is unit mounted with 20V prewired ready for 24V field wiring. See pages 3539 for more information on Control Packages. ELECTRIC HEAT Single stage or intermediate season electric heating. Nickel chromium resistance wire is located between blower and cooling coil. This option also includes grounding terminals, linear limit switch, fusible link(s) and magnetic contactor(s). FIELD ASSEMBLED OPTIONS VALVE PACKAGES: See pages 3034. WALL SEAL: Used to recess wall and ceiling models. Valve Packages General Data FIELD MOUNTED PACKAGES Rittling hydronic fan coil units have standard valve packages available as a factory built assembly and fieldinstalled option for the main cooling coil and optional heating coil. All valve packages are manufactured within strict tolerances and are hydrostatically tested for leaks. Valve packages are shipped loose for field assembly to ensure a leak free system as factory mounted valve packages often become damaged during shipment. All cooling piping and components are located directly above the auxiliary drain pan to allow condensate to be captured and properly drained. Insulation of the factory valve package is not required. However, all field connections downstream of the valve package should be insulated to prevent condensation from missing the auxiliary drain pan. Valve Package Components Rittling valve packages consist of a variety of components and selection of each combination is dependent upon the application. The following sections provide a detailed description of each of the components. Following this section are additional schematic illustrations and mechanical specifications and photos. Piping System/Placement Valve packages are available for two or fourpipe systems with left and/or right hand connections. The heating and cooling connections can be located on the same or opposite sides of the unit in fourpipe systems. All coil connections are left hand as standard unless specified differently. Interconnecting Piping Interconnecting piping refers to the copper piping which is attached to the coil connections and to which all other components (i.e. control valves, end valves, circuit setters, etc.) are attached. Piping is ½" nominal (5/8" OD) copper. Deluxe or Basic Valve Packages The basic valve package includes only the main components of the valve package (i.e. interconnecting piping, control valves, and end valves). The deluxe valve packages also include unions at the coil connections and a strainer on the supply water pipe along with the basic components. All valve package components are solder end connections. Unions The unions are cast bronze construction and close with a minimum amount of effort. Used for quick connect and disconnect of valve package components to minimize required field labor during servicing of the unit. Strainer The Ytype strainer body is constructed of brass with a 6 mesh 304 stainless steel screen. Used for removal of small particles from the water supply pipe during normal system operation. The strainer helps protect the coil and minimizes the chance of control valves clogging. Screens should be regularly removed and cleaned as part of a routine maintenance schedule. Balance Valves The balance valve body is constructed of bronze and is used to balance hydronic circuits. END VALVES Each basic and deluxe valve package includes a ball valve for the supply water pipe and one of the following end valves on the return water pipe; ball valve, manual circuit setter, or automatic circuit setter. These valves serve as the field connection points on all of the Rittling valve packages. Consult the factory for inclusion of the other types of valves as end valves. Ball Valves Ball valves, also known as end valves, allow the unit to be cut off for servicing purposes. They have a low resistance to water flow, operate easily, and are often used for water balancing. These valves have a compact handle that rotates 90 degrees to a fully open position. The valve body is forged brass and the ball is polished brass with virgin Teflon seats and seals. Ball valves are available as end valves on both the supply and return water pipes. Manual Circuit Setter A manual circuit setter, also known as a manual flow control valve, acts as both a flow setting device and a stop valve, taking the place of a ball valve. This valve allows water flow through the fan coil unit and can be set quickly and accurately. The manual circuit setter includes two measuring ports in the valve body to be used for pressure drop measurements during system balancing. This pressure drop can be compared to factory supplied curves showing the corresponding flow rate. This valve shall have a 360 degree turn handwheel with memory feature including a locking feature for tamperproof setting. Automatic Circuit Setter An automatic circuit setter is an automatic flow control device that includes a ball valve cast in the valve body and is located on the return water pipe. The automatic circuit setter consists of a stainless steel/brass flow cartridge and a contoured orifice plate. As the pressure drop increases, the flow cartridge will move into the contoured orifice plate to decrease the flow. This flexing action provides a constant flow, independent of pressure (280 psi), and makes it difficult to clog and resistant to cavitation damage. This valve sets flow through the coil without any action required by a system balancer. The automatic circuit setter includes two measuring ports in the valve body to be used for pressure drop and temperature measurements. 30

Rittling Standard DDC Control Rittling provides a control system which includes 20V/24V40VAC transformer, manually operated 3 speed fan switch with off position, fan relay and the factory mounting of customer supplied DDC controller. The following information regarding the DDC controls and valves must be provided to Rittling by the DDC manufacturer: (NOTE: The DDC controller is mounted in one end pocket of the fan coil. Therefore, the size of the controller must be no larger than 8" wide x 5" high x 2" deep. CUT SHEETS The cut sheets should include descriptions, mounting instructions, piping schematics and dimensional drawings of the controller, sensors, valves and any component to be field furnished for Rittling to install. PACKING SLIP The packing slip should include model numbers and quantity of each component supplied to Rittling. SCHEDULE The schedule including a listing of unit sizes, model numbers, accessories and tagging instructions should be supplied at the time the order is released. WIRING DIAGRAMS Wiring diagrams should be provided at the time the order is released instructing Rittling how to wire the DDC controller and all accessories to meet the required control operation. Rittling Fan Coil with Electric Heat The electric heating elements are located in the fan coil units in the preheat position. They are located in such a way as to prevent stratification and air bypass for optimum heating efficiency. The electric heating elements are situated between the fan discharge and the cooling coil. This prevents access by room occupants. Cabinets: The fan coil unit is fully insulated to ensure safe, low surface temperatures. Motors: Energy efficient 20V/60Hz/Ph permanent split capacitor motors are standard. A 3 speed motor switch is also provided as a standard. Sub Panel and Electrical Blockoff Plate: All fuses, fuse holder, contactors, and terminal blocks are premounted and prewired to the sub panel. The electrical blockoff plate prevents access to the fan coil end pocket which houses all contactors, field wiring terminals, transformers, relays, etc. Magnetic Contactors: The magnetic contactors are furnished to break all ungrounded conductors. The contactor(s) are located in the end pocket premounted and wired to the sub panel. Grounding: Ring type grounding terminals are provided for each power source. Field Wiring Terminals: Field wiring terminals provide a means to easily connect with a single power source. These are suitable for copper wire and are sized in accordance with National Electrical Code. Control Systems: There are four two pipe cooling with electric heat control systems available. One must be chosen with electric heating unit. Each of these is described in detail on pages 4245.. Total electric heat Manual cool/heat changeover 2. Electric Heating Element Construction Information 2 4 6 3 5 MOUNTING PLATFORM The electric heating elements are mounted to a galvanneal steel plate. This plate is attached to the fan deck by several screws. This allows the motor/fan assembly and electric heat to be removed at the same time for servicing. 2 HEATING ELEMENTS The electric heating element has been designed to handle total electric heating and intermediate seasonal heating requirements. Electric heating elements are designed for 60 hertz/ phase 20, 208, 240 and 277 supply voltages. All electric heating elements are constructed of nickel chromium resistance wire and have a maximum operating temperature of 850 deg F. 3 COIL TERMINALS Coil terminals are constructed of nickel plated steel with ceramic terminal insulators and bracket bushings. 4 LINEAR LIMIT SWITCH The linear limit switch is used as the primary safety protection. It is an automatic reset thermally operated safety device. The switch operates using a long capillary tube which extends the length of the electric heating element. If the capillary senses an excessive temperature (factory preset) at any point, the electric element is deenergized. The break temperature is nonadjustable. The switch automatically reenergizes the electric heating element after the temperature falls to an acceptable range. The electric heating element will be deenergized if the capillary tube is damaged or ruptured. 5 FUSIBLE LINK The fusible link is used as a secondary safety protection device. These cutoffs are manually replaceable with a non conductive thermal pellet holding spring loaded contacts closed. When a preset temperature is exceeded the pellet will melt, allowing the contacts to open and break the circuit. These cutoffs are installed in the power lines of each electric heating element and open in case of failure of the primary safety device. 6 INSULATION High density Armaflex insulation prevents heat from being transmitted to the back of the fan coil unit casing on vertical models. 4

Architectural / Engineering Specifications BASIC UNIT The contractor shall furnish and install a Rittling fan coil unit as indicated on plans, with required mounting components and accessories. Material shall be manufactured in accordance with Rittling s High Quality Standards and in conformance to ISO 900:2008 standards established and maintained by HydroAir Components Inc. Fancoil unit capacities are certified under Industry Room Fan Coil Air Conditioner Certification Program in accordance with ARI Standard 44098. All standard units are ETL certified in the United States and Canada and comply with UL 995 and CSA C22.2 No. 236 requirements. The basic unit shall be supplied with a galvannealed chassis, fan housing(s) & wheel(s), fan deck, motor(s), coil, insulated coil section, 3speed switch, electrical junction box, ABS plastic drain pan, and ABS auxiliary drain pan. A 3speed switch shall be supplied with ceiling units for remote mounting. Mounting for floor units shall be on the side opposite the piping connections. Exposed wiring shall be in flexible conduit on all ceiling hideaway units. Unit mounted electrical components, except GFCI shall be prewired to a junction box. Floor/wall models shall have an externally insulated ABS plastic drain pan (304 SS optional) with plastic hose mounted directly below the coil for continuous condensate removal. Drain surfaces shall be separate from the fan deck assembly, and shall carry condensate to a plastic auxiliary drain pan. Flush mounted quarter turn tamperresistant fastener included as standard Ceiling models shall be supplied with a painted galvanneal steel drain pan with welded corners and exterior insulated with closedcell insulation leaving a smooth, sloped surface for superior drainage. The coil, return bends, and optional valve packages shall be mounted over the drain pan, which acts as the main and auxiliary drain pan. Motors and fans shall be mounted on a removable galvanneal steel fan deck assembly. CABINETS All cabinets shall be of the type as shown on the drawings. Cabinets shall be manufactured from 6 gauge, epoxy powder coated, cold rolled steel panels (4 gauge front panel or full cabinet optional). The entire cooling coil section shall be insulated with ¼" Armaflex, closedcell insulation. Cabinet parts shall be cleaned and phosphatized before painting. The cabinet shall be provided with a standard ivory epoxy powder coating. Optional colors can be selected from the Rittling Color Chart. Custom colors are also available with the submission of a color chip for color match. Cabinets shall have 8" end pockets on both sides of the internal cabinet for installation of electrical equipment or control valves. Floor and wall nonrecessed top panels shall be supplied with two flush, hinged access doors with camlock fasteners (optional tamperresistant fasteners). Adjustable rear mounting brackets shall be supplied with all cabinets to provide necessary adjustments to correct unit alignment during installation on untrue or nonsquare walls, studs, joints, and surfaces. Optional adjustable leveling legs (two on each base leg) are also available. A wall seal assembly shall be provided with all recessed units. The assembly shall provide a finished appearance to the ceiling or wall. 60
