A Publication of the Baltimore County Corvette Club www.baltimorecocorvetteclub.com March 2011 Volume 7 Issue 1

Well, we are almost at the official kickoff to the car show season! It s time to get the Vettes out of storage! The Sun is shinning for now but I know there were a few opportunities you might have had over the last few months to get your Vette out of the garage. Are you ready? I sure am. I know our fellow brothers and sisters in the Vette Community are ready because you have said so. This issue is long overdue. It is filled with stuff I have been meaning to share for the last three or four months. The BTRIPLEC would like to thank you for all the support you gave us last year, especially with the huge turn out for the Bea Gaddy Corvette Food Run. 2010 was fun, but we are looking forward to 2011, to be bigger and better! In the famous words of Bill Parker, we will do it in High Style, Very Agile and Mobile we will be! Our club loves socializing and fellowshipping with folks. It s my hope that the President s Roundtable will enhance this sport and our lifestyle. We had good conversations regarding the purpose of the President s Roundtable last year. I am fully committed to formally developing a new and better level of communication within our family network of Corvette Clubs. I will continue to firmly make the case that we must network more and support each other s club events and activities. I hope to seek out new opportunities and venues which will market not just our club but will benefit our partners within the Corvette Clubs too. I also believe we can and should do more in educating others about our love for the Chevrolet Corvette. On behalf of the B-TRIPLE-C, we thank you for your calls and emails of support when we lost another dear friend and club member in Rob Brown so unexpectedly. Rob was a tall quiet guy who really loved cars and especially car lovers. Rob will be surely missed as he leaves a wife and son behind. It been three years since the untimely death of our other brother and club member, Scott Baron. One thing is for sure is time is so precious. We should be enjoying every day the good Lord allows. Tomorrow is not promised. So whether it s a community parade, car show or our Sunday Cruise, the Mighty B-TRIPLE-C will be on the move to enjoy life each and every day. The club would like to again give thanks to the vendors and businesses who supported us with gifts of their products and services; Frank Meyer from Security Square Mall, Carole Brown from Perryville Outlets, Meguiars, BORLA, CORSA, Carla & Sean from Heritage Chevy and Mid American Designs. Your giving and continued support for our CAR SHOWS has been huge and we thank you! Thank You for showing your commitment to the lifestyle and sport of the Corvette and for being an important part of our success. There are many more people to thank, but let me say thank you to all for helping us over the years. The best is yet to come! This year brings some changes within the BTRIPLEC. You will meet our new Officers, see our new business ventures and more. We are making some minor changes to our website and we are now on FACEBOOK. So Friend Us as well as Like Us on the two pages we have listed. Our Annual Car Show at the Perryville Outlets has been moved from July to September 24th, in hopes we will have cooler weather. The Father s Day Show at Security Square Mall will be back this year in June but will be sponsored by the Omega Phi Fraternity on 2

June 18th. Check our Club Calendar on Page 32 for upcoming events including the upcoming major ones. Again, I can t wait for the season to begin. Our club membership is open to all. We are always looking for good folks to join our Vette family. As always, if there is something our club or I can do to help you, please don t hesitate to give us a call. Just remember to keep up to date with our activities by visiting our website and please sign our guestbook. Celebrating our 7th Anniversary!!! God Bless! Be Safe & Happy Motoring! History of the Baltimore County Corvette Club Our club was founded in June 2004 by four guys (Jeff Scruggs and Rodney Steadman, Rob King & Mike Foster) who just wanted to have fun with their cars. The Baltimore County Corvette Club also known as the B-TRIPLE-C, is an active club drawing members from various areas in the Baltimore County community and the surrounding areas in Maryland. Our membership consists of Corvette Enthusiasts of all ages, professions, and backgrounds. We enjoy participating in informal social outings as well as fellowshipping with other car clubs. We have traveled to shows all up and down the East Coast and have met many fellow Corvette owners & clubs along the way. We love to network, so please e-mail us at BTRIPLEC@msn.com or contact one of our officers. Presently, the majority of our members own newer model Corvettes from the years 1998 to 2008. The club has grown over the last few years with a core group as well as new members joining yearly. Currently, meetings are held the first Saturday of each month at Applebees located at 6700 Baltimore National Pike in Baltimore, Maryland (www.applebees.com). The Club's many activities include displays at major events to sponsoring our annual All Corvette Car & Truck Show and our weekly Meet & Greets. We enjoy road rallies, Sunday cruises to country sites, picnics, youth car washes, community parades, Local and National car shows, and of course, our annual Christmas party. We adopted a youth group call the N-Full Motion Marching Band and Dance troupe (www.nfullmotionmarchingband.com) from Randallstown, Maryland in which we help raise money for their band uniforms and their continued operation. In 2005, we joined the United Council of Corvette Clubs (www.unitedcouncil.com), a national organization of corvette clubs (UCCC) which covers the Eastern and Midwest areas of the United States. In 2007, we joined the National Council of Corvette Clubs (www.corvettenccc.org). The National Council of Corvette Clubs, Inc. (NCCC) was founded in the United States as an all volunteer, non-profit organization in 1959 by a small group of Corvette owners enthusiasts! The membership in NCCC is comprised of nearly 22,600 Members and is the largest non-profit, all volunteer Corvette organization in the United States! The Baltimore County Corvette Club seeks a Chevy Dealer as a corporate sponsor. All are cordially invited to join us for a meeting or outing anytime you find yourself in the Baltimore Metropolitan Area. Visit our website at www.baltimorecocorvetteclub.com or find us on FACEBOOK for events and more information. 4

Monthly Meet & Greet at Security Square Mall The Baltimore County Corvette Club had some great Meet & Greet events this year. So come on out and join us on the 1st Saturday in April at Security Square Mall (weather permitting). The Meet & Greet sessions continue to reinforce the values our club holds near and dear. So whatever kind of car you have, Corvette, Mustang, or Dodge, bring your chair, wash and fill up your car and come on out to "fellowship" with folks. We have been encouraged by the number of people who have "dropped in" to observe, discuss and photograph the growing number of Corvettes on exhibit each week. Make sure you tell a friend or fellow Vette owner. www.securitysquare.com The Presidents Roundtable 1st Come out and join the fellowship Baltimore County Corvette Club Corvette Friends of Frederick MD Generations Corvette Club Juz Crusin Corvette Club Modified Corvette Club Second 2 None Corvette Club Tidewater Corvette Club Top Flight Corvette Club 5

2011 Chevy Corvette Z06 Carbon Limited Edition 6

2011 Chevy Corvette Z06 Carbon Limited Edition DETROIT -- When the 2006 Corvette Z06 was introduced, it represented the closest connection to the Corvette race cars ever. The 2009 Corvette ZR1 closed the gap between racing and production even further. This year, Corvette continues its tradition of track-to-street technology transfer with the 2011 Corvette Z06 Carbon Limited Edition. Designed to further incorporate technology developed through racing, the Corvette Z06 Carbon Limited Edition is a tribute to the 50th anniversary of Corvette s first race in the 24 Hours of LeMans, said Jim Campbell, Chevrolet General Manager. With a limited production of 500 units, this car is a must-have for the true Corvette collector and driving enthusiast. The Corvette Z06 Carbon Limited Edition is another example of the expanded Corvette line-up. Five years ago, customers had the choice of a Corvette coupe or convertible. With the addition of the Z06, Grand Sport coupe and convertible and ZR1, Corvette enthusiasts now have more choices than ever. For track use, the Z06 Carbon is the best balanced Corvette yet. It combines the lightweight and naturally-aspirated Z06 engine with the road-holding and braking of the ZR1, said Tadge Juechter, Corvette Chief Engineer. For technical tracks like Laguna Seca, the Z06 Carbon could shave up to three seconds off the Z06 lap time. This limited edition Z06 will boast Brembo carbon ceramic brakes with specific dark gray metallic calipers. These powerful brakes were first introduced on the ZR1. Black 20-spoke 19-inch front/20-inch rear wheels complement the car s Michelin PS2 tires. The Corvette Z06 Carbon will be available in two colors: Inferno Orange and the all-new Supersonic Blue. Black headlamps and mirrors, a ZR1-style body color spoiler, body color door handles, carbon fiber raised hood, and black carbon fiber rockers and splitter enhance the Z06 s dynamic design and reduce mass and aerodynamic lift. For track events, customers can also install the Euro-styled racing numbers that come with each car. The Z06 Carbon s ebony leather and suede interior is complemented by blue or orange seat stitching to match the exterior color chosen. Other features include a unique steering wheel emblem, sill plate and logoed headrest. The suede used on the steering wheel, shifter, seat inserts, armrests and doors add to the luxury of this limited edition Z06. An optional Z07 performance package that includes the mechanical upgrades introduced on the Z06 Carbon can be added to a regular 2011 Z06. This package also includes Competition Gray 20-spoke wheels and all the chassis and cooling upgrades. The CFZ Z06 carbon fiber package includes black carbon fiber rockers, splitter and roof panel with the full-width body color spoiler. It can also be purchased with or without the Z07 package on regular Z06 models. The 2011 Corvette Z06 Carbon Limited Edition, as well as the new Z07 and CFZ Z06 option packages will be available in late summer. 7

2011 Corvette Z06X Track Car Concept IN CASE YOU MISSED THIS: Chevrolet has debuted two new Corvette concepts at last year s SEMA show. The 2011 Corvette Z06X Track Car and the 2011 Corvette Jake Edition concepts are designed to show how Corvettes can be customized. Chevrolet teamed up with Pratt & Miller, partners in Corvette Racing, to design the Corvette Z06X concept. Their goal was to showcase how enthusiasts can turn a production Corvette into a full-on track car. This concept car represents a midpoint between our GT race car and the production Z06, said Tadge Juechter, Corvette chief engineer. The powerplant is an LS7, 7.0-liter V8 engine that is upgraded with a low-restriction air-intake system, a high-capacity radiator and a racing-spec cooling system. Power is transferred to the rear tires through a Tremec six-speed manual transmission. Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes provide the stopping power while the suspension is upgraded with adjustable stabilizer bars, mono-ball control-arm bushings and coilover struts with adjustable camber plates. The exterior is modified to reduce weight and to make the Z06X concept competition-ready. Upgrades include the CFZ carbon-fiber-option package, with a front splitter and rockers, adjustable carbon-fiber rear wing and ZR1 carbon-fiber roof panel and B-pillar panels. Weight reduction continues with a carbon-fiber hood, carbonfiber headlamps housings from Specter Werkes/Sports, lightweight racing wheels and a polycarbonate rear window. 9

2011 Corvette Jake Edition Concept. He started off as a discreet logo in 2005 that symbolized a tenacious attitude of the Corvette Racing team and ever since, the skull mascot known as Jake has grown to embody the determination and triumphs of the team. Now, Chevrolet designers have created the Corvette Jake Edition Concept, a special Grand Sport convertible concept vehicle that celebrates Corvette s racing spirit. The Corvette Jake Edition is a Grand Sport Coupe, with Z06 wheels featuring the Competition Gray finish. The matte Jake hood graphic from the GT1 commemorative model adds a subtle visual statement, while a host of other accessories round out the car s unique appearance. Most of the parts added to this special Grand Sport are available today as Genuine Corvette Accessories or through any Chevrolet dealer s parts department. Jake is more than the mascot for Corvette Racing, he personifies the Corvette spirit, said Dave Ross, design manager. We designed this concept to demonstrate how any enthusiast could create his own Jake special model with parts available from any Chevrolet dealership. Some of the accessories used to create the Corvette Jake concept are not currently available, but are planned for future release, including Jake-logo floor mats, console lid, wheel center caps and more. Other parts, including the hood graphic and Z06 wheels, are offered as Genuine Corvette Accessories. The Corvette has long inspired car enthusiasts to personalize it. The Jake concept shows one very unique way to do it, said Ross. With the great variety of accessories and other parts available, there s virtually no limit to how you can make your Corvette stand apart from all others. 13

Corvette Wave Rules by Dan Woomer, President & Founder of Lost Caravan Corvette Club The Corvette Wave is an integral part of the mystique and culture of the Corvette owner experience. Corvette owners who wave at fellow Corvette owners when they pass on the road, show a mark of recognition that you are among the elite group of intelligent people who are driving America's True Sports Car. And as a member of this elite group, you should be recognized for your poise and intelligence. So for those who don't know the five simple Corvette Wave rules, here they are: 1. There is no excuse for not waving at your fellow Corvette owner. Although most Corvette owners have the class and understanding to accept when their wave is not returned, not waving is a serious breach of proper Corvette etiquette. 2. Whoever sees the other Corvette first, starts the wave. There isn't any rule about who waves first. This is simple; if you see another Corvette, wave! 3. Rules 1 and 2 apply to both sexes. As far as who starts the wave, it doesn't make a difference if you are a man or women. Rules 1 and 2 apply. 4. Any type of wave is okay. Whether you shoot a big wave up through your open Vette top, out the window, or a quick salute with your hand on the steering wheel, any wave that can be seen by the other Corvette driver is okay. However, this does not include any style of jester that can be interpreted as obscene or insulting. Remember, Corvette owners are a class act; while someone might have been rude or stupid to you, try not to return the favor. (This is a tough rule not to break with all the stupid drivers who manage to get a driver's license.) 5. A late wave is better than no wave. If you suddenly realize that a Corvette driver is passing and waving at you, get a wave off as soon as possible. The other Corvette driver may see your wave in their rear view mirror and realize that you where just a little late in getting your wave going. Although missing the timing of your wave is a "goof," getting off a wave that the other Corvette driver has a chance to see can acceptably cover this slip-up. So you can see the underlying concept here is simple:wave at your fellow Corvette owners, whoever they are, whenever you see them. This will show you are a person who understands the full measure and etiquette that comes with your proud ownership of a Corvette. 21
