COMPLETING INSTALLATION When the installation is complete, join the unit connector and replace the ballast cover ensuring no wires are pinched. Switch the AC Power on. OPERATION Normal Mode power is present. The ballast operates the fluorescent lamp(s) as intended. The is in the standby charging mode. The will be lit providing a visual indication that the battery is being charged. Emergency Mode The Power fails. The senses the Power failure and automatically switches to the Emergency Mode. One lamp is illuminated, at reduced output, for a minimum of 90 minutes. When the Power is restored, the switches the system back to the Normal Mode and resumes battery charging. TESTING & MAINTENANCE Pressing the red lens on the turns off the light on the and forces the unit into emergency mode. This interrupts power to the emergency lamp only. The emergency lamp is now being lit by the unit and will be less bright than the other lamps in the system. To simulate a OUT use the switch or circuit breaker to turn off Power. Initial Testing Allow the unit to charge at least 60 minutes, then press the to conduct a short discharge test. The is a maintenance free unit, however, periodic inspection and testing is required. NFPA 0, Life Safety Code, outlines the following schedule: Monthly Insure that the is illuminated. Conduct a 0 second discharge test by depressing the. One lamp should operate at reduced output. Annually Insure that the is illuminated. Conduct a full discharge test. The unit should operate the lamp for the a full 90 minutes at reduced output. Allow a hour charge before conducting 90 minute test. Written records of testing shall be kept by the owner for inspection by the authority having jurisdiction.
