SECTION 231300-ABOVEGROUND FUEL STORAGE TANK PART 1 - GENERAL 1.1 SUMMARY: A. This Section includes the requirements for installing aboveground fuel storage tank system. B. Each tank shall meet the requirements of 6 NYCRR 613. C. The tank shall be a factory fabricated, double-wall steel storage tank with integral secondary containment and appurtenances specified. D. One tank is to be used for storage of Aviation Gasoline and the other tank for storage of Jet A fuel. 1.2 REFERENCES: A. Applicable Codes and Standards: 1. Contractor shall provide Shop Drawings for approval on the tanks and all accessories and appurtenances. Submit the following product data. 1. Aboveground fuel storage tank including spill containment fill sump, fill cap and fill adapter. 2. Fuel level gauge, vents, and all valves. 3. Electronic single hose retail remote dispenser. 4. Contractor shall provide submittals on all piping, valves, locations and fittings prior to installation. 1.4 QUALITY ASSURANCE: A. Manufacturer's Qualification: Firms regularly engaged in manufacture of aboveground storage tanks, of types and capacities required, whose products have been in satisfactory use in similar service for not less than 10 years. 1.5 DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING: A. Comply with manufacturer's rigging and installation instructions. B. Stored items shall be protected from the weather and contamination. Proper protection and care of material before, during, and after installation shall be the Contractor's responsibility. Any materials found to be damaged shall be replaced at the Contractor's expense. During installation, piping and similar openings shall be capped to keep out dirt and other foreign matter. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.1 MANUFACTURERS: A. Basis of Design Products: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide products by one of the following, or request approval for substitutions: 1. Aboveground Storage Tanks: a. Lancaster Tanks Steel Products, Buffalo, NY b. Approved equal. 2. Appurtenances a. Manufactures listed are basis of design products. Provide products shown or request approval for substitution of equivalent products. 2.2 JET A FUEL STORAGE TANK: A. Steel Storage Tank: Furnish an aboveground, horizontal, double-wall, steel storage tank. The tank shall be in conformance with the Underwriters Laboratories' UL-142 specifications and so labeled. 1. 5,000 gallon, 8 foot diameter, horizontal, double wall aboveground storage tank with 1,000 gallon (20%) spill over compartment, 2-24 manway assy., 2-8 emergency vent openings, misc. threaded/flanged openings, 1-2 interstitial monitoring port, two integral saddle supports with integral porch and canopy, interior lined with epoxy for Jet A, exterior finished with macropoxy and acrolon polyurethane. Tank Vent Pipe: The tank shall be vented at the top of the tank with a three inch diameter Schedule 10 304/304L stainless steel pipe. The pipe length shall be of sufficient length to extend 6 feet above the tank and be terminated with a open updraft vent. H. Thief Pump: Provide a manually operated thief pump at the low end of the tank and accessible from grade. The sampling tubing shall be stainless steel. The inlet end of the tubing shall be ¼ inch from the bottom of the tank. G.I. Aircraft Refueling Skid System: Skid frame unit set up to off-load transport at 100 GPM and to fuel into-plane overwing/singlepoint at 75 GPM. The fuel shall be filtered in and out and recirculate. The system shall include steel fuel pipe/fittings completely assembled, prewired, and pressure tested and include the following: 1. Nibco LD2100-3 buna lug type butterfly shut-off valves API-609 2. Blackmer Gx2.5B pump with 5HP explosion proof motor 230/460 volts 3 phase 3. Tank Vent Pipe: The tank shall be vented at the top of the tank with a three inch diameter SCH10 304/304L SS pipe. The pipe length shall be of sufficient length to extend 6 feet above the tank and be terminated with a pressure vacuum vent. Equipment Identification: Apply appropriate NFPA and OSHA labels. Labels or safety decals shall be applied at the factory in controlled conditions ensuring proper adhesion. PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.1 INSTALLATION: A. Storage tank shall be handled with extreme care to prevent damage during placement and shall be installed in accordance with the manufacturer's installation instructions and NFPA 30. The exterior surface of the tank shall be inspected for obvious visual damage prior to and proceeding the placement of each storage tank. Surface damage to a storage tank shall be corrected according manufacturer's requirements before proceeding with the system installation. B. Scope of Work for installation of the fuel storage tank shall include the following: 1. Install tank on level surface, location to be determined in the field. 2. Install overfill control valve as indicated. 3. Install vents, gauges, spill containment sump. C. Equipment: 1. Equipment shall be properly leveled, aligned, and secured in place in accordance with manufacturer's instructions. Supports shall be provided for equipment, appurtenances, and pipe as required. Anchors, bolts, nuts, washers, and screws shall be stainless steel and installed where required for securing the work in place. Sizes, types, and spacing of anchors and bolts not indicated or specified shall be as required for proper installation. ABOVEGROUND FUEL STORAGE TANK 231300-5 AD.01 page 7

3.2 TESTS: A. Testing: Pressure and leakage testing of tank and piping shall be accomplished by the Contractor in the continuous presence of the OWNER S REPRESENTATIVE. Under no circumstances shall the pressurized system be left unattended during the test period. Primary tank and annular space shall be tested with air pressure at 5 psi in accordance with NFPA 30 or 58. An air gage with quarter pound increments shall be used to take readings. Procedures for pressure testing to the tank manufacturer's recommendations shall be approved by the OWNER S REPRESENTATIVE. B. Liquid Tightness: All underground sumps shall prevent outside surface and ground water from coming into the container and prevent any product originating from within the sump from escaping into the underground environment. Hydrostatic testing on all sumps after installation to check for proper sealing of joints and connections. C.B. System Performance Tests: After all components of the system have been properly adjusted, the system shall be tested to demonstrate that the system meets the performance requirements for which it was designed. The Contractor is to provide at least 3 days notice of testing to the Owner so that personnel can be provided to witness the testing. The maximum rated capacity of the system shall be tested by using several tank trucks simultaneously, if applicable. The use of tank trucks shall be coordinated with the OWNER S REPRESENTATIVE prior to testing. If any portion of the system or any piece of equipment fails to pass the tests, the Contractor shall make the necessary repairs or adjustments and the test shall be repeated until satisfactory performance is obtained. The tests shall demonstrate the following: 1. The capability of each fuel pump to deliver the indicated flow of fuel. 2. The alarm and control panels are operational and perform as designed. 3. Each fuel meter is operating accurately. 4. Vent piping is clear of debris and each pressure/vacuum relief vent is operating properly. 5. Anti-siphon valve is operational.
