3M V-Series Air Control Valves Maintenance Next, let s look at the replacement parts for the continuous flow supplied air respirator system. A complete assembly consists of the following components: - An L-Series Headgear - An L-122 Breathing Tube - A high pressure air regulating valve or low pressure connector with belt. - A high pressure or low pressure supplied air hose with fittings. The L-122 is the Breathing Tube. The entire breathing tube should be replaced if it develops a leak, tear or becomes damaged. The W-2963 is the Waist Belt. The entire belt should be replaced when it becomes damaged. There are 4 different air control valves approved for use with the L-Series Headgear: - 3M Vortex Cooling Assembly V-100-3M Vortemp Heating Assembly V-200-3M Air Regulating Valve Assembly V-300 Intended for high pressure applications, ranging from 25 to 90 psi. - 3M Low Pressure Connector Assembly V-400 Intended for low pressure applications, ranging from 6 to 15 psi. These air regulating valves have no moving parts except the control valve, so there is little to wear out or maintain. If proper filtration of compressed air is maintained, the muffler will stay clean and maintain its acoustic efficiency. The following spare parts kits are available to overhaul and maintain the air regulating valves.
3M Vortex Cooling Assembly V-100 1) The V-115 is the Spare Parts kit for the 3M Vortex Cooling Assembly V-100. It can be used to replace the vortex generator and o- ring or to replace the foam pad and fastener. To replace the generator and o-ring: a. Mount the vortex assembly in a vise with pressure on the flat sides near the valve stem. b. Carefully remove the retainer with a small pliers. c. Lift off the V-111 Muffler Tube Assembly. d. Unscrew the turbine cap using a 3/8 inch Allen wrench. e. Remove the vortex assembly from the vise and invert the assembly to remove the special washer and generator. f. Remove the o-ring from the turbine cap using a small pliers. g. Install the new o-ring on to the turbine cap so that it rests above the threaded portion of the turbine cap. h. Re-mount the vortex assembly in the vise. i. Install the new generator with the angled groove side up. j. Install the new special washer, laying it over the generator. k. Thread the turbine cap clockwise onto the body assembly and tighten with a 3/8 inch Allen wrench until tight or approximately 30 pounds if using a torque wrench. Overtightening can cause the generator slots to restrict, thereby reducing airflow. l. Replace the V-111 Muffler Tube Assembly onto the turbine cap. m. Re-insert the retainer. 2) To replace the foam pad and fastener: a. Use a Phillips screwdriver, remove the machine screw from the body assembly. b. Slide the body tube off of the vortex.
c. Remove the foam pad and 3M Scotchmate Fastener from the cooling tube. d. Adhere the new 3M Scotchmate Fastener on to the cooling tube. e. Position one end of new acoustic foam pad halfway between the exhaust holes and wrap it around the 3M Scotchmate Strips. Make sure that the ends of the acoustic foam pad do not overlap, but rather form a snug butt fit. f. Holding the acoustic foam pad in place with two fingers of one hand, using the other hand, carefully slide the body tube over acoustic foam and the tube assembly with a slight twisting motion. g. Re-secure the body assembly with the machine screw. 3M Vortemp Heating Assembly V-200 1) The V-215 is the Spare Parts kit for the 3M Vortemp Heating Assembly V-200. It can be used to replace the cold muffler and the 3M Vortemp generator or to replace the o-ring in the upper tube assembly. To replace the cold muffler and generator: a. Mount the 3M Vortemp Assembly in a vise with pressure on the flat sides near the valve stem. b. Remove the cold muffler by turning the muffler counter clockwise by hand. c. Remove the valve ball and turbine cap by turning counterclockwise with a wrench. d. Remove the o-ring from the turbine cap with a small pliers. e. Remove the 3M Vortemp Assembly from the vise and invert the assembly to remove the special washer and generator. f. Install the new o-ring on to the turbine cap so that it rests above the threaded portion of the turbine cap. g. Re-mount the 3M Vortemp Assembly in the vise. h. Install the new generator with the angled groove side up.
i. Install the new special washer, laying it over the generator. j. Thread the turbine cap clockwise onto the body assembly and tighten with a wrench. k. Install the new cold muffler onto the valve ball and hand tighten by turning clockwise. 2) To replace the o-ring in the upper tube assembly: a. Use a Phillips head screwdriver, remove the machine screw from the body assembly. b. Slide the body tube off of the 3M Vortemp Assembly. c. Remove the o-ring with a small pliers. d. Install the new o-ring using a small pliers if needed. e. Slide the body tube back on to the heating tube. f. Re-insert the machine screw into the body assembly. 3M Air Regulating Valve Assembly V-300 1. The W-3036 is the Spare Parts Kit for the 3M Air Regulating Valve Assembly V-300. It can be used to replace the disc-muffler and screen and to replace the o-rings on the control knob. To replace the disc-muffler and screen: a. Carefully remove the retainer with a small pliers. b. Lift the muffler tube assembly away from the valve assembly. c. Remove the retaining ring with a lock ring removal tool. d. Turn the valve assembly over to remove the metal screen and foam disks. e. Insert the two new foam disks into the valve assembly. f. Place the new metal screen on top of the foam disks.
g. Install the retaining ring with the lock ring removal tool. h. Place the muffler tube assembly onto the valve assembly and reinsert the retainer. 2. To replace the o-rings on the control knob: a. Mount the air regulating valve in a vise, gently gripping the adjustment knob. b. Remove the nut on the valve body with a wrench. c. Lift the valve body off of the adjustment knob stem. d. Remove the o-rings from the knob stem with a small pliers. e. Place the new o-rings onto the knob stem with a small pliers. f. Lower the valve body down over the adjustment knob stem. g. Re-install the nut with a wrench. 3M Low Pressure Connector Assembly V-400 1. The W-3036 is also the spare parts kit for the 3M Low Pressure Connector Assembly V-400. It can be used to replace the disc muffler and screen. To replace the disc muffler and screen: a. Remove the retainer with a small pliers. b. Lift the muffler tube assembly away from the valve assembly. c. Using a lock ring removal tool remove the retaining ring. d. Turn the valve assembly over to remove the metal screen and foam discs. e. Insert two new foam discs into the valve assembly. f. Place the new metal screen on top of the foam discs. g. Install the retaining ring with the lock ring removal tool. h. Place the muffler tube assembly onto the valve assembly and reinsert the retainer.
