3. Descriptin f the StarHazer III TM The StarHazer III TM has new DMX cntrl with 5 pin in/ut panel munts that are prtected by the prtruding sidewalls. The unit nw has 3 pin XLR remte with lcking cnnectr. The imprved, higher pressure cmpressr prvides finer haze while using less fluid. Haze frm the StarHazer III TM Haze Machine is cmpletely different frm any ther hazer n the market. It perates withut the use f a heating element (heating elements that create a heated chemical reactin fr haze). The fire departments have been extremely happy t hear that this machine wn t catch n fire if allwed t run empty, because it is made t perate withut any type f heater r ther fire causing generatin. Internally, the atmizer breaks up a high frmula int such tiny particles, that it prduces an paque haze that is filtered several times t remve larger size particles (ver 20 micrns) befre it is mixed with the ambient air thrwn 25 frm the machine. Because lights and lasers lk best when fg is evenly distributed thrughut the rm, the hazer has tw built in circulatin fans that circulate the air frm the rm with the haze. This atmspheric effect lasts apprximately 20 minutes and is evenly dispersed frm flr t ceiling, wall t wall. When the StarHazer III Haze Machine timer n the remte cntrl (included) is used, yu have 100% less chance f ever having residue frm ver-hazing (turn it n and leave). Nw yu can just set the timer and the unit will autmatically, cnstantly turn n/ff yur unit when the timer cmes n. 1. Safety instructins WARNING: Read and understand all labels and perating instructins befre attempting installatin. Risk f electrical shck- Never pen the machine withut discnnecting pwer lead first! This device is supplied with a grunding cnductr. T reduce risk f electrical shck, cnnect nly t prperly grunded, grunding type receptacles. Never remve the third prng frm the plug. This machine requires a 120VAC/10 A circuit fr peratin. During peratin a circuit shuld be dedicated t the StarHazer III TM Haze Machine. If yu have any dubts abut the capacity r grunding f yur existing circuits, cnsult a qualified electrician. Operating the pump with ther than CITC hazing fluid is nt cvered under warranty. Be sure area arund hazer is dry befre applying electrical pwer. Make sure that yur unit is pinted in a directin that leaves a 12ft (4m) pen area ut in frnt. Place the frnt f the machine away frm direct cntact with electrical instruments and peple. There is n heat in this unit. Fluid is very slippery when spilled. Care in keeping any drips r spills cleaned up is necessary. D nt stre StarHazer III TM Haze Machine in freezing cnditins. Belw 50 F it will nt start. 4
5. Operating the STARHAZER III TM Haze Machine 5.1 Selecting the Lcatin Secure a gd lcatin fr the machine t rest slidly n the flr s that the utput f the machine will nt be restricted. Make sure that yur unit is pinted in a directin that leaves an pen area ut in frnt and can travel 12ft (4m) withut restrictin. Place the frnt f the machine away frm direct cntact with electrical instruments and peple. Always allw plenty f air circulatin t allw the haze t expand, separate and enlarge. Prper circulatin f the haze is imprtant. Place the hazer at the ppsite side f the rm frm the return air-cnditining duct t help cause the haze t circulate evenly, withut curls f haze r ht spts. Fr large rms, use a lng-distance fan like the Directr Fan TM r Directr Jr. Fan TM. This evens the haze fr quicker balance. Yu will quickly see the duble fans are filtered, and spread haze mre rapidly. 5.2 Electrical Pwer Requirements This machine requires a separate circuit fr peratin. The StarHazer III TM Haze Machine shuld have a circuit dedicated t it. If yu have any dubts abut the capacity r grunding f yur existing circuits, cnsult a qualified electrician. D nt add ther equipment n this circuit. 5.3 Hking things up 1. Pur ½ - 1½ quarts hazing fluid int tp fill sput. Use f any ther fluids will vid yur warranty. D nt verfill! The fan cmes n when the timer cycle begins and ges ff when the cycle ends. The fan ges n r ff each time yu press haze. The abslute cleanest haze is when yu keep 5
a light haze by using the cycle-timer. The haze frm the StarHazer III TM Haze Machine is recmmended t be used fr 10-20 minutes initially (depending n the size f the auditrium), and then n fr up t 2 minutes every 1 4 minutes ff thereafter, s as nt t set ff smke alarms in laser games, night clubs, r equally sized entertainment facilities. Adjust as desired. 5. If cntinually left n, check fluid level every 4 hurs. Cautin: Over haze f facility is difficult t clear. Wait 20 minutes after each applicatin at first t be sure f density. 6. The built-in filter cntinually wrks t prvide nly the smallest drplets f haze, reducing the pssibility f residue. Overall use f fluid is reduced dramatically because f this feature. 7. When finished, wipe machine with a clean clth and stre cvered t prevent dust and dirt frm accumulating n the machine. Vacuum r clean filter n fans by remving plastic husing and rinsing r washing filter with sapy water. Dry. Replace. 8. If shipping by a cmmn carrier, yu must empty all fluid frm the unit by pening tp cap, tipping upside dwn and mving with a slight rcking mtin clckwise ver a drain basin r funnel int a bttle. Reusing this fluid requires filtering thrugh a nyln. Always check used fluid fr clarity. If separatin is seen, discard and fill with fresh fluid. 5.5 Trubleshting 1. If the fuse blws If hazer stps wrking, first check the fuse lcated I a drawer under the IEC plug. Remve the drawer with a screwdriver, slide drawer straight ut (cmpletely remving drawer), the fuse is lcated n the end. If blwn, a replacement fuse is lcated inside the bx next t it. Use ld fuse t push ut new fuse and snap int psitin. Inadequate extensin crds can result in lw line vltage, which causes the fuse t blw. Check crds fr prper size and cnditin (14 gauge AWG r larger fr 120v). Machine shuld be level t perate prperly. 2. If the cmpressr starts t wrk, then stps and pps the fuse Yu may have a cld unit. Belw 55 F is t cld and will nt start. Replace the fuse, warm the unit with a hair dryer, light bulb, r just let it sit in a warmer envirnment. Once it is warmed up t 65 F (18.3 C), try again. 3. If there is n haze If cmpressr is running, but n haze is cming ut, be sure yu have used the crrect hazing fluid. Check haze fluid level. (it shuld be n higher than Full line indicated). Overfilling causes reduced haze and high amunts f residue. Be certain f fluid level. Empty cmpletely if verfilled and run empty t clear head. 5.6 Ntes n DMX peratin 6
Each DMXed unit will ccupy a unique DMX address n the DMX chain. By adjusting the dip switches n the side f the DMX cntrl bx, the user may assign ne address t the machine, giving yu n/ff cntrl with ne DMX channel (there is n timer n this DMX). Step 1). Attach the DMX 5 pin plug t the upper remte female cnnectr lcated n the back f the hazer. Step 2). The DMX address is cnfigured by adding the dip switch numbers tgether t ttal the number required. Fr example, DipSwitch 1 + 6 = 33. Yur DMX channel wuld be 33. Dip Switch 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 Channel # 1 2 4 8 16 32 64 128 256 When yu mve the slide cntrl r digital cntrl, the unit will turn n at apprximately the 50% setting. Input and Output designatins n the DMX 5-pin XLR cnnectrs are arbitrary (i.e., yu can use the input plug fr utput and visa-versa). It is nt necessary t attempt cnverting yur DMX line s cnnectr t female/male t match the apprpriate scket n the plug. As lng as it is lped in/ut, it will wrk. 6.
