WHAT IS LIGHT POLLUTION? Quite simply, light pollution is excessive or obtrusive artificial light. Around the world, the night sky is disappearing in a haze of artificial light. A side effect of an industrial civilization, it s sources include; building exterior and interior lighting, advertising, commercial properties, offices, factories, streetlights, and illuminated sporting venues. Light pollution is usually broken down into five main categories; Light Trespass - Unwanted light entering an adjacent property. Over-Illumination - The excessive and energy wasting use of light. Glare - Caused by high contrast between light and dark areas, glare can make it difficult for the human eye to adjust to the differences in brightness, sometimes causing unsafe road conditions. Light Clutter - Groupings of lights may generate confusion, distracting viewers from obstacles that they may be intended to illuminate. Sky Glow - The combination of reflected and badly directed light escaping into the night sky, usually seen over populated areas. ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT Disruption of the natural patterns of light and dark can influence many aspects of animal behavior. Light pollution can confuse animal navigation, alter competitive instincts, change predator-prey relations, and influence animal physiology. Studies have shown that many species, from migrating birds to sea-turtle hatchlings, have shown a negative impact from excessive or poorly designed lighting. ENERGY CONSERVATION By using the correct fixture and a properly executed lighting design, lighting is used more efficiently, with less waste and less creation of unwanted or unneeded illumination. Enclosure is fully sealed and gasketed, and is Wet Location Listed for outdoor use. Enclosure and hardware are corrosion resistant. The TL8 features an internal, anodized aluminum reflector which provides ideal light distribution, and the lamp(s) are protected by a high-impact, heat resistant, tempered glass lens. The Trace-lite TL8 Series uses a medium base, glazed porcelain socket pulse rated for 4KV or universal 4 pin socket.
