My First Corvette Larry and Norma Harless have been RCCC members since 2003. Enthusiast RCCC members, Larry and Norma can be found at almost all RCCC events. Norma is a past RCCC Treasurer and board member. Larry has contributed multiple articles for the RCCC newsletter. Larry and Norma, both originally from West Virginia, have owned five Corvettes. They are currently members of the RCCC multiple Corvette families and drive a 2009 Atomic Orange convertible as well as a 1965 red convertible. When asked how they got into Corvettes, Larry replied, our first Corvette was a 1973 big block convertible. It was medium blue with a white convertible top, blue interior and an automatic transmission. That Vette was purchased at Casey Chevrolet in Newport News, Virginia. At age 13, a neighbor took me for a ride in his black C2 Corvette convertible with the sun shining and the top down. Though it was just a ride up to the end of our small town and back, it was love at first ride. I became a Corvette lover and knew one day I would own one. When I graduated from college, Norma and I moved to Newport News, VA, where I was a design engineer on the Los Angeles class USN submarine project. Yep, I was in naval design, I guess you could say I designed navals. To me there is nothing more fun, or exciting than cruising in a Corvette with the top down. Larry and Norma s extended family includes daughter Lori Harless Stenger, sonin-law Ben Stenger and grandson Jack Stenger. The River City Corvette Club is the first Corvette club for Larry and Norma. They enjoy day cruises and weekend trips as their favorite Corvette activities. Norma and Larry Harless 8
