Specification for TBJ Model 3600 & 4800 Automatic Bedding Dispensers Description: The Model 3600 & 4800 Bedding Dispensers are automatic, conveyorized systems designed to dispense controlled amounts of bedding into rodent cages as they are autmaticaly conveyed through the dispensing section. The unit is designed to accept animal cages as they are discharged from a conveyorized tunnel washer or as a stand alone unit and shall be capable of handling most solid beddings currently available. 3600 Size Configuration: Tunnel opening: 10" high Overall: 64 1/2" high x 96" long x 83" wide Conveyor Belt Height: 30" Conveyor Belt Width: 36" 4800 Size Configuration: Operation: Tunnel opening: 10" high Overall: 64 1/2" high x 96" long x 95" wide Conveyor Belt Height: 30" Conveyor Belt Width: 48" Filling the hopper with bedding The storage-dispensing hopper is filled by dumping bedding into the hopper located alongside the cage conveyor bed. A hinged door is provided to seal the hopper when the dispenser in not being charged with bedding. The hopper includes a removable safety grate with an interlock sensor. It the safety grate is removed during operation, the unit will temporarily shut down until the grate is replaced. Dispensing bedding When dispensing bedding into cages, both powered roller and dispensing motor shall be turned on. A sheet of bedding is continuously dispensed from
above the cage conveyor rollers. This sheet extends across the full width of the cage conveyor. As cages pass top-side-up through this sheet of bedding, a controlled level of bedding material is deposited into the cages. The cages can pass beneath the hopper in any random pattern and will be filled with the same amount of bedding per square inch of cage bottom. The rate at which the bedding is being dispensed is adjustable via a dispenser drive control located on the control panel, so the amount of bedding deposited in the cages can be varied. The bedding which falls outside of the cages will fall through the open conveyor rollers and into the bottom loading hopper. It is then returned to the side storage hopper by the dispensing conveyor. Cages may be manually loaded onto the dispenser conveyor top-side-up, or cages may be automatically inverted and transferred to the dispenser conveyor as they come out of a tunnel washer. Construction: A. Storage Hopper: The storage-dispensing hopper is of 14 gauge stainless steel and includes a hinged cover. B. Structure: All structural support is stainless steel. All sprockets, chains, etc. are of carbon steel. C. Cage Conveyor: The unit is provided with 2" diameter, powered stainless steel rollers on 3" centers to convey the cages. The drive rollers are 24V DC brush type with high output motor.. All rollers shall include a PVC sleeve traction sleeve. Rollers shall utilize a 4 round clear polyurethane belt with 83 Shore A hardness. The roller system has no pinch points and will not carry the bedding out of the dispensing sectioin. The conveyor frame is constructed of stainless steel and includes a water collection area with 1 ½ drain on the load end of the the dispenser. A removable stainless steel drawer with debris screen is provided to collect items that may have fallen onto the load area of the bedding dispenser. D. Legs: Legs are adjustable for leveling the unit and adjusting the conveyor height. E. Operator Control Panel: The control panel contains the On/Off power switch, Start button, Emergency Stop button, Adjustable Speed Dispenser Drive and three On/Off switches: one for the dispenser drive, one for the conveyor drive
and one for the optional dust collector system. All (3) include an ON indicator light. Indicator lights are also included for the POWER and CONVEYOR FULL indicator. F. Motors: The dispenser belt motor is a 1/3 HP, variable speed, DC motor, for hookup from single phase, 60-cycle, 115-volt, AC electric service. The cage conveyor is driven via (2) 24 Volt DC drive rollers. G. Covers and Access ports: A hinged cover is installed on the loading hopper. One (1) removable cover is installed over the dispensing belt on top of the dispenser. A cleanout port is located at the exterior base of theloading hopper Service access ports are also located on infeed and discharge ends of dispenser. H. Storage Hopper Capacity: Fifteen (15) cubic feet. I. Exhaust Duct: A 4-1/2 O.D. exhaust duct is provided for connection to an optional dust collector system or to a building exhaust system. An in-line filter is provided in the exhaust vent connection. The filter is easily removable for cleaning. Optional Features: A. Right or Left Hand Configuration: The dispenser can be supplied with the load hopper on either the right or left hand side of the cage conveyor. B. Dust Containment System: The dispenser can be supplied with a dust containment system to contain and remove dust generated by the filling operation and eliminate the need for connection to building exhaust. The system consists of a 1 HP blower and a 55 gallon polyethylene drum connected to the vent of the dispenser. The system is interwired with the bedding dispenser and is equipped with an on-off switch mounted on the control panel. Electrical requirements increase to a 32 amp load when this option is included.
C. Disassembled Shipment: The unit is shipped disassembled for entry into building. Uncrated sections shall pass through a 3' 6" x 6' 8" standard doorway. D. Three Phase Power: The dispenser is equipped with a transformer and starters to operate on three phase electrical power. This option shall reduce the amperage load requirement. E. Automatic Conveyor Stop: The discharge end of the conveyor is provided with a photoelectric stop to shut the system down to prevent cages from falling on to the floor. Once cages are cleared from the discharge end the unit will automatically restart. F. Fused Electrical Disconnect The bedding dispenser is provided with a NEMA 4 UL listed fused disconnect switch. G. Seismic Restraints Seismic anchoring tie down package per California Admisistrative Code zone 4. H. Powered Extension Conveyor - Four (4) foot roller extension - Six (6) foot roller extension I. Pre-Separator An attachment is provided to automatically manage the flow of bedding from a vacuum bedding distribution system (purchased separately) into the bedding dispenser hopper to allow continuous operation of the system. J. Unload Roller Table Non-powered stainless steel roller type conveyor table at the output end of the tunnel washer to facilitate unloading. Conveyor rollers, shafts, frame and legs are all stainless steel. - Four (4) foot length - Six (6) foot length - Eight (8) foot length
