Tekes EVE programme annual seminar 6.11.12 Electric Commercial Vehicles ECV Sähköiset hyötyajoneuvot Mikko Pihlatie VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland
Electric Commercial Vehicles ECV Currently, ECV consists of three sectors and seven work packages: A. R&D infrastructure (ECV-RES) 1. estorage2 (electric storages) 2. ebus-res (electric bus mule) 3. Tubridi (hybrid working machine) 4. esled (electric snow scooter) B. Industrial projects (ECV-IND) 5. eforklift: electric truck / AGV (Rocla) 6. ebus-veolia: electric bus fleet (Veolia) 7. enormet: eletric mining machine (Normet) C. International projects (ECV-INT) 8. Upcoming international projects (EU, Nordic)
ECV and the context of electrification Society, traffic, logistics and industry are all getting increasingly electrified in a multifaceted way Finland has significant industry and other players in the entire value chain for electric commercial vehicles ECV is the most technology-oriented consortium of the Tekes EVE programme ECV constitutes an extensive R&D network and infrastructure offering also demonstration platforms
ECV strategic outlook ECV offers extensive R&D and support for Finnish electric vehicle industry and electric mobility players Finland has a good chance to reach a leading position in heavy-duty commercial electric vehicles From strong subsystem research topics to integrated know-how Strong networking both in Finland and internationally
ECV content and focus areas 1. Electric vehicles, power train and components Testing, simulation and expert network Real-time simulation platform for an electric vehicle or working machine Field and laboratory testing of electric vehicles End-user requirements for ECV s Chassis dynamometers, vehicle fleets, driving cycle measurements
ECV content and focus areas 2. R&D and demonstration platforms for electric vehicles and driveline components Electric bus mule in ebus: driveline, charging Hybrid working machine demonstration platform in Tubridi Power electronics, motors, power train Very important demonstration platforms in component development for participating companies Charging of electric vehicles ECV-eCharge (quick charging of ECV s) in preparation
ECV content and focus areas 3. Energy storages for electric vehicles Testing of battery cells, battery modules and complete battery packs Optimal choice of battery type and size depending on the application The impact of operation conditions on the batteries The impact of load cycles on the batteries Design bases of battery packs, modelling and verification Tests according to standards, specific cycles and environmental testing estorage2 supports several ECV work packages Battery testing and cycling for ebus Choice of battery for Tubridi Support for low voltage systems etrukki and ekelkka Knowledge base for participating companies
ECV from components to commercial vehicles
ECV: the true industrially anchored EVE project
Expand EVE focus to cover the entire value chain Seek the business cases for Finnish export industry Support such product development and related R&D 10 Where should the EVE programme head?
