If equipped, make sure you have the anti-theft code for the radio, then write down the frequencies for the preset buttons. 2. Open the hood, and disconnect the negative cable from the battery. 3. Remove the upper cover (eleven clips). UPPER BULKHEAD COVER RETAINING (Pull out the center pin.) 5. Locate the two dimples on the left bumper grille. While wearing eye protection, drill a 6 mm hole through each dimple. 7. Locate the two dimples on the right bumper grille. While wearing eye protection, drill a 6 mm hole through each dimple. BUMPER GRILLE 6 mm DRILL BIT DIMPLE DIMPLE DIMPLE MARKING 12 mm 10 mm 6 mm DRILL BIT FRONT BUMPER RIGHT BUMPER GRILLE DIMPLE 6. Measure and mark the horizontal louver of the left bumper grille, and cut out the marked area with a hacksaw blade. Be careful not to cut off the rib on the back of the front bumper. File the edges smooth and flat. 8. Measure and mark the horizontal louver of the right bumper grille. HACKSAW BLADE RIB (Do not remove.) 9. Locate the four cutouts in the right bumper grille. Draw lines from cutout to cutout. MARK CUTOUT MARK HACKSAW BLADE Routing Harness B 13. Attach one wire tie with holder to the fuse case, and secure the fuse case to harness B with the wire tie. Attach the other wire tie with holder to the 1-pin connector of harness B. 1-PIN CONNECTOR FUSE LABEL Cut and remove. CUTOUT 10. Using a hacksaw blade, cut out the marked area from the right bumper grille. Be careful not to cut off the rib on the back of the front bumper. File the edges smooth and flat. 11. Slide three spring nuts onto the left bumper grille, position the left bracket on the spring nuts, and install three 5 x 16 mm washer-screws. WIRE TIES WITH HOLDER 14. Attach the fuse label to the fuse case. FUSE CASE BUMPER GRILLE SPRING NUTS 15. Inside the engine compartment, route the terminal end of harness B alongside the vehicle harness on the left side between the battery and the air box. GROUND TERMINAL OF VEHICLE GROUND BOLT BRACKET 5 x 16 mm WASHER-SCREWS TERMINAL END OF 12. Slide three spring nuts onto the right bumper grille, position the right bracket on the spring nuts, and install three 5 x 16 mm washer-screws. BATTERY 16. Loosen the ground bolt, and attach the ground terminal of harness B with this ground bolt. 4 of 16 AII 20677 (9908) 1999 American Honda Motor Co., Inc - All Rights Reserved.

17. Attach the terminal of the fusible link to the positive battery terminal with the battery terminal nut. Plug the 1-pin connector of the fusible link into the 1-pin connector of harness B. FUSIBLE LINK TERMINAL BATTERY TERMINAL NUT POSITIVE BATTERY TERMINAL COVER 20. Remove the bolt and clip, then pull down the inner fender. 21. Continue routing the 2-pin connector of harness B as shown, then push the clip on harness B into the hole in the left front bulkhead. 2-PIN CONNECTOR OF INNER FENDER (Turn over.) BATTERY FUSIBLE LINK Pull down. 1-PIN CONNECTOR FUSIBLE LINK 1-PIN CONNECTOR BATTERY CABLE WIRE TIE WITH HOLDER 18. Secure the 1-pin connector of harness B to the battery cable with the wire tie with holder you installed in step 13. 19. Route the 2-pin connector of harness B (short harness) down behind the left headlight. BOLT 22. Route the other 2-pin connector of harness B under the inside of the upper bulkhead, and secure it to the upper bulkhead by pushing the five clips into the holes in the bulkhead. If equipped with an optional hood switch, secure harness B to the hood switch harness with one wire tie inside the upper bulkhead. Be careful not to pinch the overflow hose. 23. Behind the right headlight, remove the radiator reservoir tank from the bracket by pulling it upward and moving it aside out of way. RADIATOR RESERVOIR TANK 26. Remove the bolt and the clip, then pull down the right inner fender. Route the 2-pin connector of harness B out through the inner fender hole, then secure it to the vehicle harness with one wire tie as shown. INNER FENDER (Pull down.) RIGHT HEADLIGHT BOLT 24. Plug the 4-pin connector of harness B into relay A. Attach relay A to the inner panel behind the right headlight with the 6 x 12 mm washer-bolt. INNER PANEL WIRE TIE RIGHT HEADLIGHT VEHICLE HARNESS 2-PIN CONNECTOR 27. Secure harness B to the vehicle harness with four wire ties in the areas shown. FRONT UPPER BULKHEAD 6 x 12 mm WASHER-BOLT 4-PIN CONNECTOR RELAY A HOLE IN RIGHT INNER PANEL 2-PIN CONNECTOR WIRE TIE WIRE TIE 25. 28. Secure harness B to the vehicle harness with five wire ties in the areas shown. 31. Insert the fog light connector clip into the hole in the left bracket. WIRE TIE WIRE TIE 32. Position the fog light on the left bracket, and install the three 5 x 20 mm special screws. BRACKET CONNECTOR HOLE VEHICLE HARNESS 29. On the driver s side of the vehicle, slide one connector clip onto the fog light connector. 5 x 20 mm SPECIAL SCREWS 30. Plug the 2-pin connector of harness B into the fog light connector. BRACKET BUMPER GRILLE 33. On the passenger s side of the vehicle, repeat steps 29 through 32 to install the other fog light with the other connector clip onto the right bracket. 2-PIN CONNECTOR CONNECTOR 1999 American Honda Motor Co., Inc - All Rights Reserved. Routing Harness A 34. Remove the driver s dashboard lower cover (one screw and three retaining clips). On EX model, disconnect the 2-pin connector and the air temperature sensor hose. 36. Lower the steering wheel tilt lever. Remove the upper and lower steering column covers (three screws and seven clips). Gently push on the seven retaining tabs, and separate the two steering column covers. Take care not to damage the clips. Push. Pull up the door opening trim, and unscrew the plastic screw securing the kick panel. Remove the kick panel by pulling it out toward you. PLASTIC SCREW LOWER STEERING COLUMN SCREWS 37. Unplug the vehicle harness 14-pin connector from the light switch. Route harness A down through the left side of the steering shaft, and connect the 14-pin connectors from harness A in between. 38. Plug the 6-pin connector of harness A into the 6-pin connector of the driver s side fuse box. 41. Using a shop towel around the end of a flat-tip screwdriver, remove and discard the left switch cover from the console panel. SCREWDRIVER CONSOLE PANEL SHOP TOWEL COVER FUSE BOX 6-PIN CONNECTOR 39. Remove the bolt fastening the vehicle main relay bracket to the left of the steering shaft, and attach relay B with this bolt. 42. Route harness A over the steering shaft toward the hole in the console panel alongside the vehicle harness. VEHICLE MAIN RELAY BRACKET VEHICLE BOLT (Reuse.) 43. Route the 8-pin connector of harness A out through the empty hole in the console panel. If necessary, attach a piece of wire to the 8-pin connector. 45. Above and to the right of the accelerator pedal, cut out and remove the insulator, then push the grommet concealed under the insulator out into the engine compartment. PIECE OF WIRE CONSOLE PANEL GROMMET HOLE INSULATOR (Cut out and remove.) 8-PIN CONNECTOR GROMMET (Discard.) ACCELERATOR PEDAL 44. Plug the 8-pin connector of harness A into the switch, then install the switch in the hole in the console panel. 8-PIN CONNECTOR CONSOLE PANEL If the vehicle you re working on is equipped with an optional hood switch, go to step 48; otherwise continue with step 46. 46. Route the 1-pin connector of harness A out into the engine compartment through the grommet hole. Apply a small amount of silicone sealer to the grommet, and seat the grommet on harness A in the grommet hole properly to prevent water leaks. 47. Inside the engine compartment, plug the 1-pin connector from harness A into the 1-pin connector of harness B. 49. Plug the 1-pin connectors from the fog light harness connectors you freed on the hood switch harness. Wrap electrical tape around each of the 1-pin connectors to secure them to the harness. (One connector is inside the cabin, and the other is inside the engine compartment.) CABIN INSULATOR TAPE ENGINE COMPARTMENT HARNESS 1-PIN CONNECTOR If the vehicle you re working on is not equipped with an optional hood switch, go to step 50; otherwise, continue with step 48. 48. Locate the two 1-pin connectors taped to the hood switch harness near the grommet. Remove the tape to free the 1-pin connectors. HOLE IN FRONT BULKHEAD TAPE (Remove.) Fog Light Aiming Adjustment 51. Adjust the fog lights: Adjust the aiming according to local laws and regulations. To adjust, turn the dimming adjustment screw in or out until the correct aiming is obtained. ADJUSTING SCREW USE AND CARE How to Operate Fog Lights Turn the light switch to the on position (headlights on low beam). Press the fog light switch (pilot indicator is on). If the fog lights don t come on, check the fuse and all the connectors, including the ground cable and the fusible link. The fog light lenses can cloud when the outside temperature is cold; this is normal and should go away in warm weather. To LOWER LIGHT PILOT INDICATOR To RAISE FRONT BUMPER 52. After adjusting the aiming, attach the fog light trim to the front bumper using one 4 x 12 mm washerscrew for each fog light. FRONT BUMPER Bulb Replacement 4 x 12 mm WASHER-SCREW TRIM 53. Check that all wire harnesses are routed properly and all connectors are plugged in. 54. Reinstall all removed parts. 55. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery. 56. Enter the customer s radio anti-theft code, and reset the radio station presets. NOTE: Use only a Genuine Honda halogen light bulb of specified wattage. Do not touch the bulb. Oily or greasy substances on the bulb can shorten its service life due to the heat produced when the bulb is turned on. If the bulb is accidentally touched, wipe it clean with a clean, soft cloth that has been dampened with denatured alcohol or a mild detergent solution. 57. 1. Remove the fog light trim (one screw). 4. Remove the rear cover (three screws). SCREWS SCREW TRIM REAR COVER 5. Release the spring from the hook, and pull the socket out of the light housing. 2. Remove the fog light (three screws). SOCKET HOLE CUTOUT BULB REAR COVER TERMINAL COVER SCREWS (Release.) CONNECTORS (Unplug.) 3. Release the clip from the hole of the bracket, and unplug the fog light harness connectors. Do not damage the harness. 6. Unplug the terminal of the socket from the terminal of the light harness. 7. Replace the bulb with a new one. 8. Align the cutout in the socket with the projection on the fog light housing when installing the socket. REPLACING THE FUSE To replace the fuse, remove the cover from the fuse holder taped to the fog light harness, install a new 15A fuse, and reinstall the cover. FUSE COVER REAR COVER RETAINING PINS FUSE (15 A) GASKET FRONT CUTOUT LOCATING TAB FUSE HOLDER Slide the rear cover over the connectors, and press it into position between the two retaining pins. Check that the wires are not forced against any metal parts. Check that the wires are not pinched between the rear cover and the fog light housing when reinstalling the rear cover. Check that the gasket is installed properly and not twisted or inverted. Tighten the rear cover screws securely.
