environmentally sustainable dielectric fluid An essential component of any electrical generation and transmission system is the transformer. Transformers require dielectric fluid to operate and it performs two important functions - insulating and cooling. Traditionally, electric power transformers are cooled and insulated by mineral oil. Mineral oil-based dielectric liquids have been widely used in power and distribution transformers for over a century. Mineral oil has dominated the market for many years due to its wide availability and relatively low cost, however there has been a growing interest in an alternative fluids that address the supply and environmental issues associated with petroleum products. Industry needs a transformer oil that provides environmental benefits at all stages of its life cycle. For a green future, oils need to be sustainable and biodegradable. Research undertaken by Biolectric has overcome vegetable oil s susceptibility to oxidation and developed a vegetable- oil based dielectric fluid,. Transformers represent one of the largest investments that a company will make and it is imperative that it is serviced with the best available products. properties ensure that you get the most of service life out of your valuable equipment. Has excellent electrical, chemical and physical properties. Is cost effective. Can be fitted to most types of transformers and can be retrofitted to transformers currently in service. Can be used in a range of environmental conditions. Assists in reducing risk of transformers failure. high performance & cost effective

plus The range of products are more than a green alternative to mineral oil. By using there are positive outcomes for the working environment. The environmentally friendly and non-toxic components used in the production of combined with its high flash point means personnel involved in the use of the oil have a safer working environment. Plus is Biolectric s second generation dielectric fluid that has been developed for extreme operating environments and applications requiring greater fire safety. Plus is a highly stable natural ester oil with excellent electrical, chemical and physical properties for use as a dielectric fluid. more than just a green alternative Copper Sulphide Cu2S Deposits - Natural esters do not contain unstable sulphur compounds which can react with copper conductors causing Cu2S plate-out onto insulation and windings. The absence of sulphur compounds in Plus allows for higher top oil operating temperatures in warmer climates. Self-extinguishing Properties - Plus is a natural ester Class K dielectric fluid and classified as self- extinguishing. This presents major cost advantages over mineral oil dielectric fluids when considering site construction, fire hazard minimization, spill and containment areas and eco-sensitive environments. High Relative Moisture Saturation - Mineral oil needs to maintain low moisture saturation limits for peak dielectric breakdown Voltage and to protect cellulose insulation. Plus has a high inherent relative moisture saturation which means it is highly effective at drawing moisture AWAY from solid cellulosic insulation. This facilitates higher operating temperatures and extends transformer life without compromising breakdown voltage. Miscible with mineral oil - When retro-filling, it is impossible to remove all oil from a transformer s internal winding and cellulose insulation. Over time the remaining oil will leach out into the replacement oil which may impact on performance. Plus is miscible with mineral oil and other natural ester oils making it suitable for retro-fill purposes. safer working environment www.biolectric.com.au

The range of transformer oils provide environmental benefits at all stages of its life cycle when compared to traditional hydrocarbon based transformer oils. Production Cycle - The raw materials used in traditional petroleum based transformer oils come from a long chain of what can often be environmentally costly and damaging steps. From drilling to production; from refining to transportation and disposal, there is an environmental cost to production of traditional transformer oils. oil is derived from 100% renewable feedstocks rather than refined petroleum products or synthetic chemicals. Environmental Impacts - The cost of any oil spill goes beyond penalties and clean-up costs; it is the contamination of soil and waterways that poses the serious concern. In contrast to traditional oils, the materials used in the manufacture of are far more environmentally benign. The finished product is rated as non-toxic and is >95% biodegradable. Personnel Safety - has positive outcomes for the working environment. The environmentally friendly and nontoxic components used in the production of combined with its high flash point (>300C please use degree symbol) means personnel involved in the manufacture and use of the oil have a safer working environment. Installation and Construction Costs - With increasing environmental regulation requiring engineering controls to mitigate the potential danger of spillage of transformer oil into the surrounding environment, the cost of a transformer installations in growing. By using in your electrical equipment, opens up alternatives to traditional installation designs. End of Working Life - Traditional petroleum based oils that have reached the end of their working life are incinerated, releasing greenhouse gases to the atmosphere. has 98% of its carbon content derived from CO2 captured from the atmosphere by plants. Even at the end of its working life as transformer oil, the life cycle starts over again. The Carbon Cycle farms atmosphere industry power generation incineration
