Sheep and Goats: Final Estimates by, 994-98, U.S. Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Statistics Board, National Agricultural Statistics Service, Statistical Bulletin No. 954. Introduction: This bulletin presents final estimates, including revisions made by the Agricultural Statistics Board (ASB), for the production years 994 through 998. Sheep and goat inventory, market sheep, lamb crops, operations, and wool and mohair production were published during calendar years 994-98 in periodic ASB reports. Data included in this publication provide a historic record and a benchmark for current estimates. Inventory values and value per head will be published in the Meat Animals, PDI - Final Estimates 993-997, Statistical Bulletin No. 959 Procedures: Revisions were made after a thorough review of the original survey data and all additional data now available, including the 997 Census of Agriculture. Other data series considered included slaughter data, shipment records, imports, and exports. Inventory levels, and lamb crops, were compared to historic totals. The 994-998 estimates shown herein are considered final and will not be revised again. At the National level, revisions to estimates of sheep inventories and lamb crops were less than three percent.
