A Message From The President Our biggest event of the year is in the books! The 2018 Concours d Elegance in the Park was a roaring success with 49 cars entered. The number of cars entered was down a little from last year due to a wet spring and uncertainty about what our weekend weather might be. It seemed every weekend in Nashville this spring was chocked full of rained-out ball games, soccer matches and golf tournaments. It looked for a while as though we might fall victim to rain as well as torrential rain pelted many areas in middle Tennessee Friday night. I made the decision about 6:00 PM Friday that we were still on for the event. My Dark Sky app on my iphone has always been accurate and sure enough the rain stopped before midnight and the concours went on as planned. There wasn t even any water in the display lot. Of course we had a large showing from our regular and core number of Musik-Stadt members but we had a handful of really noteworthy entries that truly excited the crowd. Martin Folgman won the John Hudson Trophy for Best in Show honors. Martin drove a his Signal Red 356SC up from the Heart of Dixie Region in Huntsville. His beautiful ride had been worked over by John Wilhoit s restoration shop in California. It had a special 2.1L engine that cranks out 150 hp (95 hp is standard) and 150 ft of torque as well as customized suspension. The People s Choice Trophy went to Tommy Trabue who showed a gorgeous slate gray 1964 911 that had an amazing racing heritage in Latin America. If you recall Tommy won the John Hudson Award last year with an Irish Green 1964 911. Thanks for bringing both of these incredible cars to the park Tommy. Finally the Dealers Choice trophy went to Dick Butler s 1992 Carrera RS. This is quite a rare and special car and was perfectly prepared by Dick. This Lemon Yellow beauty is, as my grandfather would have said, as scarce as hens teeth. The Carrera RS was built for the European market weighing in at 2,690 pounds and a 3.6L motor generating 256 hp. According to Dick this is the only RS built in Lemon Yellow. By the way don t confuse an Dick s Carrera RS with a U.S. Carrera RS America (RSA) for this car. What we saw at Edwin Warner was the real deal. Jeremy Bauer from Porsche of Nashville pained over the Dealers Choice selection and in the end picked the Butler s yellow RS. Who could argue with that? Beautiful. Just beautiful. Thanks to all who entered. Thanks to all who worked as volunteers. Thanks to all the spectators. At one time we counted over 15 Porsches in the spectator parking lot along with a bunch of other cars. This was our best spectator attendance ever. Thanks to all for coming out to see what our entrants had been working so hard on for this concours. While our total number of entrants was down slightly the quality of our cars and preparation was the best ever. Thanks. In closing we should have Bruce Sweetman s photographs of the day posted on our website by June 1. Visit musikstadtpca.org to take a look at the great Porsches of the concours. Don t forget that you may order prints of your car or your favorites on-line from brucesweetman.smugmug.com. PAGE 2

Musik-Stadt Concours in the Park By: K Maurer On Saturday, May 19, Musik-Stadt held it s annual Concours d Elegance in the Park at Edwin Warner Park. We actually lucked out as for several weeks leading up to this event, there had been a number of showers and storms. As in the past, the set-up crew arrived around 7am to begin putting out signs and setting up the registration area for the event. I think the camaraderie of the early (for me) morning set-up is one of my favorite parts of the event. At any rate, around 8 am, participants began to arrive and completed any last minute touch-ups required. This year was interesting in that, for the number of Porsches in the viewing only area as compared to the actual Concours area. Hopefully this is a sign that we ve attracted a number of potential new members, as our number registered for the show was down slightly (though not too badly) as compared to the past couple of years. If you are one of our new members, or a perspective member, don t miss out on the fun! Register next year; don t let the judging scare you off. While we do judge the cars, this event is more about fun and getting your feet wet with a concours. Also a special thanks once again to our sponsors - Bridgestone and Porsche of Nashville both of which have been huge supporters of this event since the beginning. Also thank you to D & M Supply for being a sponsor this year as well! Finally, a thank you to Bruce Sweetman for serving as photographer for the event! PAGE 8
