Many connectors and normal cable insulations are made of PVC which will be melting and degrading from around 00 C onward. It should also be noted that copper becomes brittle if subjected to higher temperatures. Many breakdowns in industry are due to copper cabling and plated copper lugs being used to connect heating elements. In these cases only nickel wire and nickel lugs should be used - specifically so, because production machinery generates vibration through motors and movement, leading to failures on copper connections.
