Please take special note of the following warnings: 1. There is NO obstacle avoidance system included in the manufacturer s product. Therefore, users must always have an operator on the equipment when the AutoSteer system is in use to look for any obstacles including people, animals, trees, ditches, buildings, etc. 2. During installation of the AutoSteer system and during the Calibration and Tuning processes, the vehicle's wheels may turn from side to side and the vehicle moves. Be sure that all people and obstacles are clear of the vehicle before installation, calibration and tuning, or use of the AutoSteer system. 3. Use of the AutoSteer system is NOT permitted while the vehicle is on public roads or in public areas. Verify that the system is powered OFF before driving on roads or in public areas. Safety Information Warning Alerts The AutoSteer system installer and manufacturer disclaim any responsibility for damage or physical harm caused by failure to adhere to the following safety requirements: As the operator of the vehicle, you are responsible for its safe operation. The steering system is not designed to replace the vehicle s operator. Note: Verify that all screws, bolts, nuts, and cable connections are tight and secured after the final installation of the AutoSteer system on the vehicle. To avoid electrical shock hazards, remove the Roof Module from the vehicle before driving under low structures or low electrical power lines. Ensure that you are in a stable position on the vehicle platform when installing or removing the Roof Module from the Roof Rail so you do not fall. If the vehicle does not provide a safe platform, use a ladder to safely access the vehicle s Roof Module and Roof Rail. To prevent accidental death or injury from being run over by the vehicle, never leave the vehicle s operator chair with the AutoSteer system engaged. Hardware Installation Guide iii

To prevent accidental death or injury from being run over by the vehicle. Ensure all sides of the vehicle are clear of people and obstacles before startup, calibration, tuning or use of the AutoSteer system. To understand the potential hazards associated with the operation of AutoSteer equipment read the provided documentation before installing the AutoSteer system on a vehicle. To prevent the accidental engagement of the AutoSteer and loss of vehicle control while driving on roads, shut down the AutoSteer system (exit the program). Never drive on roads or in public areas with the AutoSteer system turned on. iv AutoSteer System

Caution Alerts The AutoSteer system installer and manufacturer disclaim any responsibility for damage or physical harm caused by failure to adhere to the following safety requirements: The Roof Module must be removed when transporting or driving the vehicle at speeds above 31 mph (50 km/h). The Roof Module can possibly detach due to wind loads at higher speeds. The AutoSteer system does not detect obstacles in the vehicle s path. The operator must observe the path being driven in order to avoid obstacles. When engaged, the AutoSteer system controls only the steering of the vehicle. The operator must control the speed of the vehicle. The AutoSteer system must be powered OFF when installing or removing the Roof Module. The Roof Module must always be firmly secured to the Roof Rail using the supplied hardware whenever the vehicle is in operation to prevent the Roof Module from releasing from its bracket and falling. Vehicle Requirements The vehicle must be VarioGuide 1 Ready with the factory installed Steering Valve, Steering Wheel Encoder, Wheel Angle Sensor, and VarioGuide Ready harnesses installed. Verify the proper factory installed equipment is installed on the vehicle prior to beginning the installation. The vehicle steering and hydraulic systems must be in good working order before installing the AutoSteer system. Check for loose or worn parts. Before installing the AutoSteer system drive the vehicle and confirm that it steers straight and the wheels can be turned from lock to lock. Check the steering system hydraulic hoses and connections to ensure there are no oil leaks. The vehicle s electrical system and battery must be in good working order. The vehicle should be fully cleaned before installing the AutoSteer system. 1 Installation Overview The Installation Overview chapter information is provided in the following sections: Identify COM 3 Compatible Vehicles Pre-Installation Vehicle Hardware Inspection Vehicle Inspection Kit Overview Common CAN Steering Kit Components Vehicle Specific Component Kit Components Installation Procedure Outline Cable Diagram This installation guide describes the installation of the AutoSteer system on several models of Fendt MFWD vehicles with the VarioGuide option installed. The AutoSteer installation kit PN: 188-0055-02 is used on the following vehicle series: Fendt COM 3 9XX Series (922, 924, 927, 930, 933, and 936) model year start 2006 Note: If you are installing an electric steering wheel actuator such as OnTrac2+, refer to your electric steering product manual for further instructions. Additional cables and steps are required for this installation. Contact your AutoSteer dealership to purchase these cables. Hardware Installation Guide 1

Identify COM 3 Compatible Vehicles Identify COM 3 Compatible Vehicles Fendt vehicles can have the same model number that corresponds to vehicles with different hardware and/or from a different model year. This can be confusing when attempting to match the installation kit with the proper vehicle. In order to verify that the vehicle is compatible with this kit, refer to the Vehicle Identification Plate on the vehicle. Examples of two versions of the identification plate are shown in Figure 1-1 and Figure 1-2. Figure 1-1 Fendt Vehicle Identification Plate Figure 1-2 Alternative Vehicle Identification Plate Refer to the Identification Number or Serial Number on the plate. The first three numbers represents the Chassis ID of the vehicle and are required for identification. The next two numbers are not important. The last four or five numbers represents the serial number of the vehicle and need to be identified. Refer to Table 1-1 to match the Identification Number information with the table to determine if the model is one of the ones that is supported. Note: If a match cannot be found on the table, this kit will not work on the vehicle. Contact your AutoSteer dealership to determine the proper kit for this vehicle. 2 AutoSteer System

Most vehicles come from the factory with the proper components, however it is possible for some vehicles to be ordered or shipped without the VarioGuide components. Contact the vehicle s servicing dealer to verify that the vehicle has all the components, including: Steering Valve Steering Wheel Encoder Wheel Angle Sensor AutoSteer Engage Switch All the Required VarioGuide Harnesses Correct software version loaded on the vehicle The VarioGuide components need to be calibrated by an Authorized Fendt Service Dealer prior to calibrating the AutoSteer system. If the vehicle does not have the proper VarioGuide hardware and software this kit will not work. Contact your AutoSteer supplier for other options. Vehicle Inspection Prior to installing the AutoSteer system, confirm that the vehicle and the vehicle s steering system are in good working order by driving it around. In addition, verify the following items: Verify that you can turn the steered wheels from lock to lock. Record the time it takes to turn the vehicle s steering wheels from full left to full right and then record the time to go from full right to full left as fast as you can manually. This will be used later to ensure steering performance is okay. Ensure the vehicle steers straight and does not pull to one side. Check for loose or worn steering components. Service the vehicle if the steering system is not in good working order. Hardware Installation Guide 3

Kit Overview Kit Overview This section provides a description of the components that are provided with the installation kit. Use this section to verify that all the parts required for the installation have been shipped. Installation Procedure Outline Installation Procedure Outline Note: If installing an electric steering actuator, such as OnTrac2+, Step 7 is skipped. The ECU4 will need to be installed. Follow the additional instructions provided with the electric steering actuator to install the additional components. 1. Verify all the components shown in the previous section have been shipped. 2. Install the Roof Rail on the cab roof. 3. Install the Roof Module on the Roof Rail. 4. Install the Display RAM Mounting bracket in the cab. 5. Install the Display using a RAM Mount Arm. Note: Follow the instructions that come with your Display for attaching the Display to the vehicle mounting position. 6. Install the Main Dual CAN Harness. 7. Install the Adapter Cable Harness. 8. Install the Display Harness. 9. Connect all vehicle harnesses to the Display Harnesses and/or Display. Note: Use the diagram in the Cable Diagram section of this manual and instructions in the Display Installation kit to guide the connecting of the harnesses to the proper places. 10. Verify that all connectors are properly coupled and secured. 11. Power ON the AutoSteer system. 12. Calibrate the vehicle. 13. If necessary, tune the vehicle to improve performance. 14. Verify the system has been installed properly and operates satisfactorily. 15. Fill out the Installation Checklist at the end of this Installation Manual. Hardware Installation Guide 7

Roof Rail Installation Roof Rail Installation 1. If the rotating light is installed on the right side of the cab, locate it and remove the rotating light s two mounting bolts using an 8mm Allen wrench. 2. If the rotating light is not installed on the right side of the cab, locate the mounting holes that are there. Figure 2-1 Right Mounting Bracket Location Rotating Light Mounting Bolts 3. If the rotating light was installed on the right, place the Roof Rail Mounting Bracket on top of the rotating light bracket and reattach both with the two bolts provided with the kit and tighten them using an 8mm Allen wrench. Roof Rail Installation 4. If the rotating light is installed on the left side of the cab, locate it and remove the rotating light s two mounting bolts using an 8mm Allen wrench. 5. If the rotating light is not installed on the left side of the cab, locate the mounting holes that are there. Figure 2-3 Left Mounting Bracket Location Roof Module Bracket Location 6. If the rotating light was installed on the left, place the Roof Rail Mounting Bracket on top of the rotating light bracket and reattach both with the two bolts provided with the kit and tighten them using an 8mm Allen wrench. Roof Rail Installation 7. Attach the dummy plugs to the back of the Roof Rail with two pan head Phillips #8-32 x 1/2 screws and lock nuts. Tighten the screws with an 11/32 open end wrench and #2 Phillips screwdriver. Figure 2-5 Attach Dummy Plugs Screws to Attach Dummy Plugs 8. Place the Roof Rail on top of the Roof Brackets. 9. Insert four M16 x 2 x 45mm bolts and M15 flat washers and attach with four M16 nuts and flat washers. 10. Tighten the bolts using a 24mm wrench and 24mm socket and ratchet. Note: Prior to tightening the bolts, verify that the Roof Rail is perpendicular to the direction of travel of the vehicle. To do this, measure the distance from each end of the rail to a point on the cab roof that is known to be perpendicular and adjust the Roof Rail until properly aligned. 11. Attach the antennas to the proper antennas connections on the Roof Module as shown in Figure 2-7. Roof Rail Installation Note: Some installations do not require all the antennas shown. Roof Modules (PN 200-0473-03 and later) no longer come equipped with the WiFi Antenna port. Hand tighten the connections. Do not over tighten. 3 Display Installation The Display Installation chapter contains information in the following sections: Overview Installation Procedure Overview This manual provides the instructions for installing the RAM mount ball in the cab so that the Display can be attached later. Refer to your Display user manual for instructions on installing the Display. If the location shown for mounting the Display is being used by another piece of equipment, other mounting locations can be used. However, for best performance and ease of use, use the location shown in the installation manual. Installation Procedure 1. Locate the factory installed sliding accessory mounting bracket. This bracket comes in multiple styles. A couple different options are shown in this manual for reference. Main Dual CAN Cable Harness Main Dual CAN Cable Harness Roof Module 1. Attach the Main Dual CAN Cable Harness Roof Module connector to the Roof Module. Orient the 12-pin connector so the word TOP on the cable connector is pointing upwards (towards the sky). Insert the cable connector into the Roof Module. Push the connector in until it clicks and locks in place. To remove, grasp the connector to compress the two side latches and pull away from the Roof Module. Note: Do not force the connector. Main Dual CAN Cable Harness 2. Attach the Ethernet connector to the Roof Module. Orient the Ethernet cable connector with the connector under the receiver so the contacts on the cable connector are pointing towards the back of the vehicle. Slide the cable connector into the receiver and rotate the plastic bayonet sleeve clockwise to lock the connector. The bayonet sleeve will click when it fully engages and locks. To remove the cable, rotate the bayonet sleeve counterclockwise until it clicks and pull the connector down or away from the Roof Module. Note: Do not force the connector. Main Dual CAN Cable Harness 1. Route the Main Dual CAN Harness along the back of the Roof Rail and secure with cable ties. Note: Do not attach the cable ties around the top or bottom parts of the Roof Rail bracket as this will prevent the Roof Module from freely sliding along the Roof Rail when it is installed and removed. Note: Verify that the CAN-A and CAN-B connections match or the communication to the vehicle will not work and possible damage to the vehicle CAN system could occur. Power Supply Connections The AutoSteer system is powered from cables that are usually supplied with the Display kit. There are two connections that must be connected. A two pin connector gets 12 volts of power directly from a battery connection. A four pin connector gets a signal from the Display Harness to turn on or off a relay. When the Display Harness sends a 5 or 12 volt signal to the relay, the relay allows the power from the battery to reach the AutoSteer system and power it up. Refer to your Display user manual to determine how the AutoSteer system should be connected to the Display. If your Display requires an alternative method or connection to power the AutoSteer system, contact your AutoSteer dealer for more information. Note: Refer to your Display user manual before connecting the AutoSteer system to vehicle power. Hardware Installation Guide 41

Power Supply Connections Battery Power Connection Figure 4-39 Typical Battery Cable Connection Diagram To prevent any problems with current draw and accidental shorts, it is always recommended that the installer connect the power supply cable directly to the battery terminals. This cable has a built in fuse to protect the AutoSteer system and the vehicle from shorts and other damage. The cable is also designed to allow adequate current to reach the AutoSteer system without damaging the vehicle. Connecting to any other location is not recommended nor supported unless otherwise noted. 1. Locate the battery compartment location on the left side of the vehicle between the front and rear wheels. Power Supply Connections Positive Battery Post Negative Battery Post Alternative Approved Battery Connection Point This Fendt vehicle has a heavy duty power and ground cable that runs into the cab. These cable will allow enough current to be supplied to the AutoSteer system, however it is not fused near the battery. If these connectors are used, the installer must disconnect battery power to the supply cables prior to connecting the AutoSteer battery supply cable to the terminals. Note: Failure to disconnect the battery prior to connecting the AutoSteer battery supply cable may cause a short and damage to the vehicle if a live wire touches a ground when the nuts are removed from the terminal. Always disconnect the battery connection prior connecting the battery cable. 7. Locate the battery power connection terminals inside the cab on the right hand side next to the seat. VarioGuide Specific Information Operating the VarioGuide System These models of Fendt vehicles have armrest buttons that activates and readies the vehicle to accept steering commands from the AutoSteer system. These controls can also be used to engage and disengage the AutoSteer system without having to push the engage/disengage button on the Display. It is important to understand how these buttons affect the AutoSteering system. The VarioGuide control buttons are located on the right side console connected to the side of the seat. These instructions are provided as a reference only. The function and design of the VarioGuide parts of the system may change without notice. Always refer to your VarioGuide operator s manual for the latest information on how these features work. Hardware Installation Guide 49

No power can reach the steering valve and the AutoSteer system will not be communicating with the vehicle. Solid On The VarioGuide system is ready for AutoSteering. The vehicle can communicate with the AutoSteer system and the steering valve will accept commands from the AutoSteer system and steer the vehicle automatically. The VarioGuide system on the vehicle must be activated prior to operating the AutoSteer system. If the LED is off, press and hold the VarioGuide Activation button and the LED will turn on. To deactivate the VarioGuide system on the vehicle, press the VarioGuide Activation button while the LED is on and the LED will now turn off. 50 AutoSteer System

VarioGuide Specific Information Note: If the AutoSteer system has initiated communication with the vehicle and the VarioGuide system is completely powered down, the vehicle will show an error code on its Multifunction Display indicating this loss of communication. The vehicle will continue to operate and communication can be restored by turning on the VarioGuide system on the vehicle again. Note: If the vehicle is turned off, when it is restarted the LED light will return to the state it was when the vehicle was turned off. VarioGuide AutoSteer Button Figure 5-3 VarioGuide AutoSteer Button The LED on the 9XX COM B VarioGuide AutoSteer button has two states: Off The vehicle is not being AutoSteered. Solid On The vehicle is being AutoSteered. The user can either press the VarioGuide AutoSteer button on the side console or the AutoSteer Engage/Disengage button on the AutoSteer Display to enable or disable AutoSteer. When the vehicle is being actively AutoSteered by the AutoSteer system, the VarioGuide AutoSteer button LED will turn on solid. The LED on the VarioGuide AutoSteer button will always mimic the AutoSteer button on the Display. Note: The VarioGuide Activation button LED must be solid on prior to the VarioGuide AutoSteer button being pressed. If the VarioGuide Activation button LED is off, the AutoSteer system will not be able to control the steering valve on the vehicle. Hardware Installation Guide 51

VarioGuide Specific Information Note: The Remote Switch must be Enabled in the Accessory page of the System Tab on the AutoSteer system for the VarioGuide AutoSteer Engage button to function. Verify that this has been enabled after the vehicle setup steps. If the VarioGuide AutoSteer Engage button is pressed and the Remote Switch has not been Enabled, the LED on the VarioGuide AutoSteer Engage button will blink eight times and then stay off and the Fendt Multifunction Display will show an AutoSteer icon with a line across it indicating that the tractor cannot engage AutoSteer. Calibrating the Fendt Steering System Prior to setting up the AutoSteer system and trying to calibrate it, the vehicle s VarioGuide system must first be calibrated by a Fendt authorized service technician. The AutoSteer system sends steering commands to the vehicle and the vehicle system must be able to properly command the valve internally to the correct positions. There are two steps to this calibration process. The first part calibrates the Wheel Angle Sensor and the second calibrates the valve. Note: This process should be performed by a Fendt authorized service technician. However the procedures for these steps are provided as a reference. These steps may change without notice. Contact your Fendt Dealer for any service related questions to these procedures. The Fendt vehicle calibration processes are displayed on the factory Multifunction Display on the front dash. VarioGuide Specific Information The controls to change screens and enter information into the Multifunction Display are located the right of steering wheel on the front console. The arrows will change to the other direction. Again, let the system sit and do not touch anything or attempt to drive the vehicle. It will continue to appear as if nothing is happening and nothing will move. When this step is completed, the system will show the results of the calibration. Create New Vehicle 8. If the calibration is successful the display will show an OK. This completes the calibration process of the vehicle s factory installed part of the VarioGuide system. Continue with setting up the vehicle and calibrating it in the AutoSteer system. Create New Vehicle The operator must first create a new vehicle profile on the AutoSteer system. This configures the AutoSteer System hardware so the Display can properly communicate with the various sensors and components on the vehicle. Enter all the appropriate information for setting up the vehicle. Note: Refer to your AutoSteer user manual for more information on creating and managing vehicle profiles. 1. Ensure that the vehicle is in Park and/or the park brake is set to prevent the vehicle from moving. 2. Ensure the vehicle is off. Do not start the vehicle yet. 3. Power up the AutoSteer system (turn the key to the Run position if necessary, but do not start the engine). 4. Follow the instructions provided in the Display user manual to create a new vehicle using the Setup Wizard. Note: Select Auto-Guide2 as the controller for the specific vehicle model when setting up your vehicle on the AutoSteer system Display 5. When the system reaches the Auto Calibrate screen, press the Exit Screen Arrow to exit the procedure and save the vehicle information. 60 AutoSteer System

Verify that the Remote Switch is Enabled Verify that the Remote Switch is Enabled Note: Refer to your AutoSteer user manual for more information activating and deactivating the Remote Switch on your AutoSteer system. 1. Follow the instructions provided in the Display user manual and navigate to the System tab of the AutoSteer Setup screen 2. Press the Accessories button. 3. Select Remote Switch from the list of options on the right. 4. Verify that the Current Status is set to Enabled. If it not press the Enable button. 5. After the Remote Switch has been enabled, power down the AutoSteer system. Calibration and Tuning Guidelines Note: For optimal steering performance, the AutoSteer system must be fully calibrated and then tuned. 1. Start the vehicle and move it to an open area. 2. Power up the AutoSteer system. 3. Follow the instructions in the Display user manual to navigate to the Vehicle tab from the AutoSteer Setup screen. The current vehicle should have already been set up and selected during the Create New Vehicle section, if not, select the current vehicle profile in the Manage Vehicle screen. 4. From the Vehicle tab of the AutoSteer Setup screen, press the Auto Calibrate button. Follow the on screen procedure to calibrate the vehicle. 5. If additional performance is required, follow the instructions provided by the AutoSteer user manual to Tune the vehicle after the calibration has completed.
