Using a non-honda coolant can result in corrosion, causing the cooling system to malfunction or fail. To avoid burning out the element, do not operate the engine block heater before it is installed in the vehicle and before you add coolant. INSTALLATION Customer Information: The information in this installation instruction is intended for use only by skilled technicians who have the proper tools, equipment, and training to correctly and safely add equipment to your vehicle. These procedures should not be attempted by do-it-yourselfers. 1. Disconnect the negative (-) cable from the battery first. 2. Allow the engine and all cooling system components to cool down. 5 Wire ties with clips (All not used) TOOLS AND SUPPLIES REQUIRED Ratchet 10 mm, 19 mm and 24 mm Sockets Torque wrench Diagonal cutters Heavy gloves Drain pan Tape measure White marker Masking tape Wire Coolant (Honda Antifreeze/Coolant only, in a 50/50 mixture with water) 2007 American Honda Motor Co., Inc. - All Rights Reserved AII 37494 (0707) 08T44-SLN-3000-93 1 of 7

3. Place a clean drain pan under the radiator drain plug, then remove the drain plug from the bottom of the radiator to drain the coolant. Remove the radiator cap to increase the flow. NOTE: Radiator coolant will damage paint. Quickly rinse any spilled coolant from painted surfaces. 5. Remove the vehicle brackets from the front bulkhead upper frame (one bolt for each). (Reuse in step 24.) 2 BRACKETS RADIATOR CAP RESIN COVER 2 BOLTS DRAIN PLUG DRAIN PAN 5908010T 4. Remove the cover from under the front bulkhead upper frame (four clips). 6. Remove the clip next to the resin cover, then displace the cover. 5908110T 7. Along the front bulkhead upper frame, push down on the six harness clips to free the vehicle harness under the frame. 4 S COVER BULKHEAD RESIN COVER BULKHEAD 5908141T 6 S 5908120T 8. 9. Remove the oil level gauge. Remove the bolt L and then displace vehicle harness with cover. OIL LEVEL GAUGE 12. Locate and remove the engine block drain bolt and washer. Coolant remaining in the engine jackets flows out of the bolt hole when the bolt is removed. (Retain the bolt and washer in case the block heater is removed.) BOLT R BRACKET BOLT L HOSE 10. Release the hose from the clip. Remove the bracket with the clip on (the bolt R ). 5908023T 11. Release the harness clip in the area shown, and then displace further the vehicle harness with cover. DRAIN BOLT (Retain.) (Use a 19 mm socket.) WASHER (Retain.) 5908033T 13. Install the new aluminium washer and the engine block heater into the bolt hole using a 24 mm socket and a torque wrench. Torque the engine block heater to 60 N m (44 lbf ft). 5924032H ENGINE BLOCK 60 N m (44 lbf ft) (Use a 24 mm socket.) 14. Mark the heater harness at the A and B points shown with a white marker. 17. Reinstall the bolts L and R and the bracket, secure the vehicle harness with cover and the hose to their original positions. 60 mm 190 mm A HOSE B WHITE MARKER 5908131T 15. Plug the connector end of the heater harness into the engine block heater. BOLT R BOLT L BRACKET 18. Secure the tightened harnesses to the vehicle panel reusing the harness clip on the vehicle harness with cover. 5908170T 19. Route the heater harness as shown, and then secure it with a wire tie at the mark B to the vehicle harness. HOSE BULKHEAD MARK A ENGINE BLOCK ES 5908054T 16. Align the mark A on the heater harness to the harness clip on the vehicle harness with cover, and then tighten both harnesses using a wire tie as shown. FAN SHROUD MARK B 5908062T 20. 21. Attach 3 foot piece of wire to the heater harness connector. Tape the wire to the heater harness connector. 24. Reusing the six vehicle harness clips, secure the harnesses to the front bulkhead upper frame. WIRE RESIN COVER 6 S MASKING TAPE 5908151T 22. Using the wire as a guide, continue routing the heater harness along the vehicle harness under the front bulkhead upper frame. 5 S 5 WIRE TIES 5908161T 25. Route the heater harness connector through the resin cover and then down along the vehicle harness. Secure the cover reusing the clip. 26. Steer to the right completely. 27. Remove a self-tapping screw and a clip, and then displace the left inner fender. WIRE BULKHEAD 5908072T 23. Secure the heater harness to the vehicle harness with five wire ties in the areas shown. 28. Route the heater harness down along the vehicle harness and then to the front bumper. 30. Attach the protective cap to the front bumper grille, then plug the heater harness connector into the protective cap. 31. Place the heater harness between the vehicle panel holes. While pulling up on the heater harness, secure the harness with a wire tie through the vehicle panel holes. 5 WIRE TIES PANEL HOLE 5908091T (in step 29) PANEL HOLE 5924050H 29. Route the heater harness along the front bumper grille as shown, then secure it to the grille with a wire tie. 32. With two wire ties, secure the heater harness to the other vehicle harness as shown. 33. Reinstall all removed parts. 34. Reinstall the radiator drain plug. 35. Fill the system with the recommended coolant. Follow the instructions described in the service manual to fill and bleed the cooling system. 36. Check the coolant reservoir for correct level and check the cooling system for signs of leakage. Repair as necessary. 37. Check that the heater harness is routed properly and all connectors are plugged in. 38. Put the drain bolt and the washer (removed in step 12) in the glove box. 39. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery. 40. Enter the customer s radio anti-theft code, and reset the radio station presets. 41. Reset the clock. NOTE: When the battery is disconnected, the driver s window AUTO function is disabled. Start the engine. Push down on the driver s window switch until the window is fully open. Pull up on the driver s window switch to close the window completely, then hold the switch for 2 seconds or more.
