Recent developments in France Electrical grid support Valorisation of renewable energies
The Myrte project Storing energy from renewable energy in Corsica. Investigation of the potential of H2 for providing energy to islands. France has a very large maritime territory. H2 is produced by water electrolysis using electricity produced by solar panels 3700 m2 / 560 kwc PV. 200 kw electrolyser. Storage of H2 and O2. 100 kw fuel cell.
The Janus project In summer, cities located on the Mediterranean coast see their population increasing by a large factor (e.g. x 10). This fact as a large impact on the energy demand. In this project, Areva uses electricity from solar panels to feed the Greenenergy Box to provide energy to buildings or back-up power in case of power interruption. The Greenenergy Box is a modular concept (50 to 500 kw) and can store from 0.2 to 2 MWh of energy.
Recent developments in France Power to gas
The GRHYD project Led by GDF-SUEZ, 12 partners Power to gas : Grid management by injection of H2 in NG for decarbonizing energy Localized in Dunkerque 3 markets targeted Optimization/valorization of renewable energy New gas for sustainable cities Hythane fuel for fleets (buses, etc.)
Recent developments in France Energy storage
The Hydor project Test of energy storage from electricity generated by a coal power plant. French power plant Emile Huchet in Moselle operated by E.ON Storage of H2 in a solid matrix provided by McPhy energy. Small scale test : 4 kg of H2
Recent developments in France Light duty vehicles
F-City H 2 : FCH urban vehicle Heavy quadricycle with a FCH range extender (Michelin) French-Swiss project 1 st approval of a H 2 vehicle in France (15 December 2011)
MobyPost : Deployment of 10 FCH vehicles for La Poste FCH-JU 2009 funded project involving 9 partners Deployment of 2 fleets of 5 La Poste vehicles on 2 postal sites in Franche-Comté H 2 and fuel cell concept solar top wheels. H 2 locally produced by solar panels and water electrolysis.
Recent developments in France Vehicles
MOBILHyTEst-1 : Test of HyKangoo by La Poste in Franche-Comté Electrical vehicle Kangoo ZE (Renault) modified by adding a FCH range extender (SymbioFCell) 5 kw FC, 1.8 kg of H2, autonomy doubled (300 km) Test of 3 HyKangoo on 2 postal sites in Franche-Comté. The experimentation will start on the 2 nd semester of 2014 Next step : MOBILHyTEst-2. Experimentation extended to other La Poste s vehicles (high duty vehicles 3,5 t) and to other captive fleet s operators. Objective : Clean delivery in down town centres.
Recent developments in France Forklifts
Air Liquide: H 2 stations for forklifts Air Liquide s logistic platform, Vatry (near Reims) Refuelling of FCH forklifts, started on January 2012 HyPusion : Joint agreement between Plug Power and Axane/Air Liquide Hydrogen Energy to provide FC systems for forklifts. IKEA s logistic platform, Saint-Quentin-Fallavier (near Lyon) Initial deployment : fleet of 20 FCH forklifts Project started on March 2013
Recent developments in France Maritime applications
Zero CO 2 : a hybrid PEMFC sailboat 25 kw PEMFC system LiFePO 4 batteries : 15 kwh 10.5 kg of H2@35 MPa: 350 kwh 4 partners : CEA, Shypyard Cie RM, Joseph Fourier University, Floralis Sailboat ready for sea testing in 2010 First results obtained : the autonomy at 15 kw reaches 10 h with H2, with an additional 2 h with batteries.
