3/10/2018 P0016 (ALL Diagnostic Trouble Codes ( DTC )) - ALLDATA 2006 Kia Truck Sorento 2WD V6-3.5L Vehicle > ALL Diagnostic Trouble Codes ( DTC ) > Testing and Inspection > P Code Charts P0016 P0016 Crankshaft Position-Camshaft Position Correlation(Bank I Sensor A) Component Location General Description The Camshaft Position Sensor (CM PS) and the Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKPS) are a hall effect type sensors that generate voltage using a sensor and a target wheel. The CMPS signal is sent to the ECM and the ECM uses the its signal for synchronizing the firing of sequential fuel injectors.and the Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKPS) is sent to the ECM and it calculates engine RPM by using the CKPS' 5 signal and controls the injection duration and the ignition timing. DTC Description If the relative angle between CKPS and CMPS is out of the threshold value, the ECM determines that a fault exists and a DTC is stored. Signal Waveform Monitor Scantool Data 1. Ignition OFF 2. Install Scantool and Engine ON 3. Monitor that Signal waveform of CKPS and CMPS is correctly aligned. https://my.alldata.com/repair/#/repair/article/42286/component/3926/itype/423/nonstandard/1056493 2/6
4. Are both CKPS and CMPS is correctly synchronized with? - Fault is intermittent caused by poor contact in the sensors and/or ECM's connector or was repaired and ECM memory was not cleared. Thoroughly check connectors for looseness poor connection~bending corrosion contamination deterioration or damage. Repair or replace as necessary and go to Verification of Vehicle Repair procedure. - NO - Go to Component Inspection procedure. Component Inspection https://my.alldata.com/repair/#/repair/article/42286/component/3926/itype/423/nonstandard/1056493 3/6
1. Check sensor installation (1) Ignition "OFF" (2) Disconnect CMPS & CKPS connector (3) Check CKPS and CMPS for deformation installation. (4) Are all CKPS and CMPS installed well? - Go to "Check Timing Marks" as below. NO - Repair or replace as necessary and then go to " Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure. 2. Check Timing Marks (1) Ignition "OFF" (2) Check that Timing Marks on both sprockets are correctly aligned with align marks. https://my.alldata.com/repair/#/repair/article/42286/component/3926/itype/423/nonstandard/1056493 4/6
(3) Are the timing marks for both CAM and Crankshaft sprockets correctly aligned with? - Substitute with a known - good ECM and check for proper operation. If the problem is corrected replace ECM and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure. NO - Repair or replace as necessary and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure. Verification of Vehicle Repair After a repair, it is essential to verify that the fault has been corrected. 1. Monitor and record the Freeze Frame Data for the Diagnostic Trouble Code(DTC) which has been diagnosed. 2. Using a Scantool, Clear the DTCs. 3. Operate the vehicle within conditions noted in the freeze frame data or enable conditions. 4. Monitor that all readiness test have been verified as~ Complete~ https://my.alldata.com/repair/#/repair/article/42286/component/3926/itype/423/nonstandard/1056493 5/6
5. Are any DTCs present? - Go to the applicable troubleshooting procedure. NO - System is performing to specification at this time. https://my.alldata.com/repair/#/repair/article/42286/component/3926/itype/423/nonstandard/1056493 6/6
