1928 Auburn 88 Speedster on loan from Barrie and Karen Hutchinson, pictured here at the Pebble Beach Concours d'elegance. for the Auburn Automobile Company. Patterned after the 1927 Duesenberg Model X, the innovative and dashingly handsome car featured a louvered hood, raked vee-windshield, twin side-mounted spares, golf-club doors and an iconic boattail rear-end. In 1928, customers could choose from two Speedster models - the "88" with a 125-inch wheelbase and the "115" with a larger 130-inch wheelbase. The Model 88 was powered by a 247 cubic inch inline eight-cylinder Lycoming engine that produced 88hp and had a top-speed of 85 mph. The car had many advanced engineering features generally reserved for much more expensive marques including Lockheed four-wheel hydraulic brakes and a Bijur one-shot chassis lubrication system. The Model 88 seen here was damaged in a fire in the 1930's and found abandoned in a field in Idaho in 1956 and remained unrestored for fortyyears. Three owners later, it has been full restored and was invited to the 2013 Pebble Beach Concours d'elegance. There were only 175 of this model produced.
