STIHL LOW-EMISSION ENGINE TECHNOLOGIES. STIHL employs a variety of technologies to meet and exceed EPA and CARB requirements while meeting the needs of its customers. Various technologies utilized include stratified charge, catalytic converters and the STIHL 4-MIX. STIHL bases the technology selected for a particular product on that which is best suited to the product s applications. THE STIHL 4-MIX ENGINE. This revolutionary technology features a patented lubrication design that allows the 4-cycle engine to use standard STIHL 2-cycle (50:1) fuel mix, thus eliminating the extra oil tank for engine lubrication. The STIHL 4-MIX engine is lightweight, powerful and has fast acceleration while exceeding current low-emission requirements. The STIHL Class IV and Class V 4-MIX engines offer some of the cleanest running engines in their respective classes, according to the most recent information as posted July 2008 on the EPA Web site. BREAKING IT DOWN. As we lead the charge in developing cleaner engines, similarly we lead the way in minimizing environmental impact by offering non-petroleum based oils and lubricants. Our BioPlus bar and chain oil and HP Ultra 2-cycle engine oil are highly biodegradable in only 21 days, reinforcing our assertive position in caring for nature. Taking care of nature is the very basis of everything we do.

PARTNERS IN THE ENVIRONMENT We re a conservation-minded company. It doesn t cost much to recycle, care for the environment or use green equipment. At the end of the day, we re just following our conscience. And there s no doubt that s the right thing to do. MIKE SIMON OWNER, LANDSCAPE CARE COMPANY IN MADISON, WI There s a misperception in this country, I think, that most forests are owned by industry or government that s not true. Almost two-thirds of our forests are owned by private individuals, people like Rose Lane and me. This is our back yard we wake up, open the door, and this is where we live. Of course we want to take good care of this we want to be good stewards of the land.
