Happy Holidays PCAers! For some of us, we've got our cars tucked away for their winter hibernation... while others use them as intended year-round. Regardless, we're thankful for another year of enjoying the engineering excellence of Dr. Porsche! Don't forget First Saturday this weekend and a LeMans Christmas at the Yelton's on the 8th. See details in Mark's section of the newsletter. The board decided that rather than trying to squeeze another holiday gathering into this busy time of year, we'd plan a celebration of 2012 for early in the New Year. This will likely be a fundraiser for a local non-profit as we've done in previous years (more info later). In the meantime, I hope that everyone has a wonderful and safe holiday season! And, as always, feel free to call me at (812) 842-0633 or drop me an email at gfcollins911@gmail.com Greg

Events Page December 2012, continued Just so that everyone knows what the LeMans means Criss has a nice movie room and he will have the original LeMans movie with Steve McQueen and plenty of Porsches. There will also be plenty of time for socializing, food, and other pleasantries. Criss has suggested to me that we will be welcome to start arriving at 3pm at their house in Henderson. It is easy to get being just south of the Audubon State Park. I will have directional details coming soon in another email. It will be a good time. I hope to see everyone there! 1st Saturday event at D-Pat on 12/1 1 st Sat will be this Saturday Dec. 1, be there 9am. It is a nice time to stop in and see all our Porsche friends from D-Pat and SIR. SIR-PCA Name Tags Several members have requested name tags for members and their spouses/partners or family members who accompany them to SIR-PCA events. These would be especially helpful for all of us to learn the names of people we might see only a few times a year. I've designed a name tag for us that would include your name, SIR-PCA identification, and photo of your car. I'd like to prepare these in time to distribute at our January social event and I'll need your help. Please let me know your name as you would like for it to appear on the tag, the name of your spouse/partner/etc. to appear on the second name tag (if you want one), and please send me a photo of your car. If you have more than one Porsche, you may send photos of all, but please indicate one as primary. If I can fit two or more images onto your name tag, I will, but it may not work out well. Send names and jpeg photos to jjindrich@meddybemps.com if you can email them, or mail them to: Jerry Jindrich, 3311 Treemont Drive, Newburgh, IN 47630. I can scan a photographic print if you don't have a digital photo (see sample name tags below). Please send your information and picture(s) before Christmas to allow time for production. Thanks! Jerry
Porsche confirms Ferrari 458-fighting 961 Supercar The haze around the mid-engine Porsche supercar being bred to fill the space between the 911 and 918 Spyder is clearing. A few months ago, combined Intel from Automobile and Car was that the 960, a challenger to the Ferrari 458, would either be a coupe or a "four-door coupe" powered by a twin-turbo flat-six and priced "on the creepy side of 200,000 euro." It is reported that the new car is "set to be called the 961" and cost in the area of 250,000 pounds ($400,300.00 US). Exotic technology runs downhill and Auto Express suggests the 961 will be a heavy study from the 918's chapbook, utilizing a monocoque chassis from the same CFRP materials and the 918's 4.6-liter V8. The deep haze returns again in the predictions of how those details will come together, though. Theorized output is 570 horsepower, which is the horsepower number of the engine in the 918 but less than the 620 hp in the current 911 GT2 RS, the 961 going without the electric motors of its hybrid brother. The sprint from 0 to 60 miles per hour is pegged at just above three seconds, which would put it in the same bracket as the 918 and nearly a second faster than the GT2 RS. We await more word from The Oracle to know where the 961 will get its looks from: the 911 or 918 side of the family. News Source: Auto Express
