This newsletter highlights the events and hopefully it will bring back some memories, and inspire others to get involved in 2015. Some members were around back in Christmas 1974. This year marks the 40 th Anniversary of Cyclone Tracy. As we live in the tropics it s inevitable that we will get another storm like this. I think today s building codes will lessen the devastation but it s a timely reminder for all off us to think on our own cyclone plans.. From car shows to quiz nites, ten pin bowling to pub runs, cricket matches to drag nights. The club tries to cater to families and individuals. Please feel free to get involved, remember the Club is only as good as it s membership and there is always something to do. As always the club has a big year in store for 2015, The Australia day ute run is just around the corner and we are still after volunteers to help out. Your club committee is now in recess until the next committee meeting on 13 th January at which time we will be finalising arrangements for the quiz night. This is the last newsletter of the year. Whether you are staying in Darwin, or like our President enjoying a break in our cooler southern climates on behalf of the club I d like to wish you all a safe and Merry Christmas. See you all throughout the year Cheers Wilko CHCC News November 2014 1

The Bowls Nite is the x-mas break up event for the club, the last official function for the year. This year it attracted 22 bowlers and a stack of spectators at Planet Ten Pin in Nightcliff. The evening starts at 6pm, two games of bowls, then a cruise through town ending up at Mindil beach for beer and pizzas. Luckily the dry season weather is still upon us and the rains were at bay. The cruise went without a hitch and we had many people gawking at the gleaming machinery idling down Mitchell street before heading to Mindil beach. After a little bit of organising, bowlers were placed into lanes and the fun kicked off. As usual, the competition was fierce, for some, it was all about sheep stations, for others, it s all about avoiding the gutters Mindil beach is a great spot and beer and pizza make for a simple meal for all to enjoy. The traditional Christmas cakes are always a treat as well. Bowlers of note were Craig Humphries, not a member but he is a mate and he does drive a Classic (albet an Ex Cop car Charger) with the best score of the night with 205. 2 nd ranking went to Paul Kennedy with 175 and 3 rd place Peter O Sullivan with 131. This is a great way for friends to get together and remember the year that was and give each other well wishes for the festive season ahead.. CHCC News November 2014 3

This Years wrap up.. The Classic Holden car Club host s a huge number of events throughout the year. And this year has been no exception. We offer a variety of events to encompass the different tastes of the membership. Here s a little photographic wrap up of the events held this year While not a club sanctioned event, quite a few members entered the Show n Shine at the Brasher Nats in April. Committee member Brian Nice entered in the burnout competition in his Commodore. Huge spectator numbers to watch some of Australia toughest cars in action.. The Australia Day ute run is a major commitment by the club, it attracts literary hundreds of cars and people and all proceeds go to Variety.. We invited the Classic Ford club to Mandorah in April, with around 40 cars participating and an excellent lunch venue at the Cox Country Club, they were the perfect hosts February Quiz night is a hit for many and very popular among members, a great fun night out testing your knowledge with prizes galore. The Heads n tails segments are hilarious.. The National Motoring Heritage day was staged by MVEC in April, with a BBQ and a cruise encompassing historical sites around Darwin. It looks like it s our turn to host it in 2015 We did the run to Adelaide River in March, about 40 members enjoyed a tour of the heritage railway precinct, lunch at the pub and a browse through the wreckers after.. Powercruise has been enjoyed by quite a few members over the years but I think it has all come to an end. Prohibitive costs have caused the Darwin leg to be put off for the foreseeable future. CHCC News November 2014 4

Shannons Extravaganza in May. This biannual event is the Territories largest car show and a major commitment for the club. The Rejex Rally is held on the same weekend of the Clubs Rural Rally and quite a few members took part in this action packed weekend.. CHCC vs CFC street meet in May was a huge it with members. We will definitely making this an annual event.. The Rural Rally, known as the City to Souvlaki is a huge hit with members. Held on the picnic day weekend in August members enjoy a criptic rally and a huge Greek feast and live entertainment. All courtesy of the Mellios and Kyriacou clans. June; Showing off the club to the rest of Australia, the V8 Supercar display is also a great port of call for members to catch up over the racing weekend. The Litchfield pub run in September with the Classic Ford Club. Over 40 cars in attendance, a quick run to Darwin River Dam and lunch at the pub, the perfect day Darwin to the Doo Swap meet in July was a huge success, with around 100 cars and over a dozen stalls this will be even bigger next year.. AGM in October, the business end of the club, this year we had some spirited laps of the newly re-laid surface of Hidden Valley, a delight for all members.. CHCC News November 2014 5
