OSHA Indoor Air Quality Standard # 1910.1000 The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has taken the lead on hazardous emissions in the workplace by creating and enforcing a CO (carbon monoxide) emissions standard that all workplaces must follow. The official wording of the stand is as follows: 'The CO (carbon monoxide) concentration of an enclosed workplace (i.e. a building with no fewer than 3 walls) must be no greater than 35 ppm in the ambient air (i.e. the air around the working machines that workers breathe) over an eight hour work shift." This emission standard is not a tailpipe standard although many OSHA inspectors fail to test properly as they do take their samples at the tailpipes of machines. The reason that OSHA has targeted CO is that this particular emission when exposed to humans will restrict our blood cells ability to absorb oxygen, as a result causing lethargy, lightheadedness and eventual suffocation. The development of cancer has also been linked to long term exposure to CO. 100 90 80 70 Clean Emissions Purifier Performance Diesel Exhaust.. Q) 60 110 rei c: Q) 50 u.. Carbon Monoxide - Diesel vs. LPG/Gas CO (Carbon Monoxide) = The deadliest and most watched of pollutants. CO if not removed from diesel, gas and LPG exhaust can upon exposure to humans be very toxic and lethal. CO restricts the red blood cells to absorb oxygen molecules thereby suffocating the body. Lethargy and dizziness are common side effects of CO exposure and long term exposure can be cancer causing. California Environmental Protection Agency EXECUTIVEORDERU-R-02S-0183 Air Resources Board Kubota Corporation New Off-Road Compression-Ignition Engines Pursuant to the authority vested in the Air Resources Board by Sections 43013,43018,43101,43102,43104 and 43105 of the Health and Safety Code; and Pursuant to the authority vested in the undersigned by Sections 39515 and 39516 ofthe Health and Safety Code and Executive Order G-02-003; IT IS ORDERED AND RESOLVED:That the following compressionoignition engines and emission control systems produced by the manufacturer are certified as described below for use in off-road equipment. Production engines shall be in all material respects the same as those for which certification is granted. Model Year 2005 Engine Family Displacement Fuel Type Useful life (hours) 5KBXL01.5BAD 1,123, 1,498 Diesel 5000 Special Features & Emission Control System Typical Equipment Application Indirect Diesel Injection, Turbocharger, Smoke Loader, Other Industrial Equipment Puff Limiter (Some Models) The engine models and codes are attached. The following are the exhaust certification standards (STD) and certification levels (CERTS)for hydrocarbon (HC), oxides of nitrogen (NOx), or non-methane hydrocarbon plus oxides of nitrogen (NMHC+NOx), carbon monoxide (CO), and particulate matter (PM) in grams per kilowatt-hour (g/kw-hr), and the opacity-of-smoke certification standards and certification levels in percent (%) during acceleration (Accel), luggin (Lug), and the peak value from either mode (Peak) for this engine family (Title 13, California Code of Regulations, (13 CCR) Section 2423): Rated Power Emission Exhaust (g/k-w-hr) Opacity (%) Class Standard HC NOx NMHC+NOx CO PM Accel Lug I Peak Category 19 s kw< 37 STD N/A N/A 7.5 5.5 0.60 20 15 150 CERT - - 5.6 0.8 0.20 6 1 117 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:That for the listed engine models, the manufacturer has submitted the information and materials to demonstrate certification compliance with 13 CCRSection 2424 (emission control labels), and 13 CCR Section 2425 and 2426 (emission control system warranty). Engines certified under this Executive Order Must conform to all applicable California emission regulations. This Executive Order is only granted to the engine family and model-year listed above. Engines in this family that are produced for any other model-year are not covered by this Executive Order. NOTE: These readings are WITHOUT the catalytic converter. Capital Demolition & Construction Equipment DOES have catalytic converters installed. Please refer to our 'Clean Air Scrubber' link on our Safety & Equipment Page for further information regarding the catalytic converters installed on our equipment.
