Illustration of the Remote Control Engine Starter Installed on the Vehicle INSTALLATION With vehicle security FUSE (40A, 40A) ENGINE STARTER Customer Information: The information in this installation instruction is intended for use only by skilled technicians who have the proper tools, equipment, and training to correctly and safely add equipment to your vehicle. These procedures should not be attempted by do-it-yourselfers. NOTE: The antenna should be installed only if the ambient air temperature is 15 C (60 F) or above. 1. Make sure you have the anti-theft code for the radio, then write down the frequencies for the preset buttons. 2. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery. 3. Touch the metal part of the screwdriver to any metal part of the vehicle to discharge any static electricity. SMALL FLAT-TIP SCREWDRIVER CONTROL UNIT 6. Using isopropyl alcohol on a shop towel, thoroughly clean the area where the protective tape will attach. Remove the backing from the protective tape. Attach the protective tape to the control unit over the switches. Discharge any static electricity. Remove the right and left map light lens (four retaining tabs each). Do not damage the lenses. NOTE: The switches must be set before the control unit is plugged in. If the switch settings are not correct, the remote engine starter will not operate correctly. If you change the switch settings with the unit connected, you must disconnect the unit, then reconnect it before the control unit recognizes the new settings. 5. 8. Remove the roof console (four bolts and unplug the vehicle connectors). ROOF CONSOLE 10. Pull back the weatherstrip as shown. CLIP RETAINING TAB Lightly tap. RETAINING TAB Collapsed. BODY CLIP Remains on the vehicle panel. PIN Comes off from the clip. Pull. S BODY WEATHERSTRIP Pull back. CLIP Pushed deep behind the vehicle panel. BODY AREA MARKED SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAG 2 SILVER BOLTS 2 BLACK BOLTS 6313021Y CLIP SHOP TOWEL 9. Using a flat-tip screwdriver wrapped with a shop towel, remove the right and left sun visor holders. LEFT SUN VISOR HOLDER LEFT A-PILLAR TRIM TRIANGLE MARK Tap perpendicularly with rubber mallet. RUBBER MALLET 932303BD 11. Using a rubber mallet wrapped with a shop towel, lightly tap the area marked SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAG on the top of the left A-pillar trim to push in the vehicle clip. Make sure to tap area perpendicular to the A-pillar trim. Push. Turn. 17. Pull away the weatherstrip. WEATHERSTRIP Pull away. 2 CLIPS 21. Remove the steering column lower cover (two selftapping screws and one screw). STEERING COLUMN LOWER COVER LEFT KICK PANEL 18. Remove the left kick panel (two clips). 6303100B 2 SELF-TAPPING SCREWS SCREW 6819030Y 19. Lower the tilt lever and pull the steering wheel outward. Insert a flat-tip screwdriver into the guide on the underside of the steering column lower cover and release the retaining tab. STEERING COLUMN UPPER COVER Push. Installing the Antenna 22. Using two pairs of needle nose pliers, bend the antenna plate according to the measurements shown. 23. Using scissors, cut out the template. Cut out. PLATE 18 mm (0.7 in.) TEMPLATE 24 mm (0.9 in.) 7209041K 24. Align the template with the edge of the black ceramic paint, and secure it to the windshield with tape. 25. Measure the antenna cable as shown. Wrap three urethane tapes onto the antenna cable in those positions. 28. Using isopropyl alcohol on a shop towel, thoroughly clean the area where the antenna will attach. Allow it to dry before proceeding. URETHANE TAPE HEADLINER 390 mm (15 in.) CABLE 720 mm (28 in.) 30 mm (1.2 in.) 30 mm (1.2 in.) 30 mm (1.2 in.) TEMPLATE Cut. 30 mm (1.2 in.) PLATE ADHESIVE BACKING 932002AD URETHANE TAPE HALF URETHANE TAPE 6N3003AK 26. Cut two urethane tapes in half. Wrap three of the half pieces of urethane tape around the antenna cable as shown. 29. Remove the adhesive backing from the antenna, insert the antenna plate under the headliner, align the antenna with the template, and attach the antenna to the windshield. 30. Remove the template. 31. Push the antenna cable into the headliner as shown. Be careful not to crease the headliner. 27. Cut the urethane tape as shown. Attach the urethane tape to the antenna plate as shown. 32. Using isopropyl alcohol on a shop towel, thoroughly clean the area where the urethane tape will attach. Cut the urethane tape remaining from step 27 as shown. Secure the antenna cable to the vehicle panel with the piece of urethane tape. Be careful not to crease the headliner. 34. Route the antenna cable along the left A-pillar and secure it to the vehicle harness with five wire ties as shown. Using isopropyl alcohol on a shop towel, thoroughly clean the area where the urethane tape will attach. Secure the antenna cable to the vehicle panel with one urethane tape. Be careful not to crease the headliner. LEFT A-PILLAR WEATHERSTRIP Pull away. DASHBOARD CABLE CABLE 751650AK PANEL URETHANE TAPE 36. Route the antenna cable down under the dashboard. Routing the Engine Starter Harness 37. Route the engine starter harness as shown. 41. Unlock the vehicle 42-pin connector by pushing the retaining tab on the connector, and unplugging the connector from the fuse box. 42-PIN Push. 2-PIN RETAINING TAB FUSE BOX DRIVER S LOWER COVER OPENING 921304BD 4-PIN 2-PIN 4-PIN 921306AD 38. Using isopropyl alcohol on a shop towel, thoroughly clean the areas where the 40A fuse labels and the 3A fuse label will attach. 3 RELAYS 42. Unplug the vehicle 4-pin connector and the 2-pin connector from the top of the fuse box as shown. 43. Wrap two urethane tapes to the vehicle 4-pin connector and 2-pin connector. RELAY BLOCK FUSE CASE 4-PIN AND 2-PIN S URETHANE TAPE 40A FUSE LABEL WIRE TIE 3A FUSE LABEL 921305BD 39. Attach the 40A fuse labels and the 3A fuse labels to the relay block and the fuse case of the engine starter harness. 40. Plug the three relays into the relay block of the engine starter harness. 921307AD 44. 45. Plug the engine starter harness 4-pin and 2-pin connectors into the fuse box. Make sure the engine starter harness 4-pin and 2-pin connectors are plugged in securely. A loose connector can cause the engine to stall. Pull the connector and check for securely locking. 42-PIN 49. Unplug the vehicle 20-pin connector from the right side of the fuse box and plug it into the engine starter harness 20-pin connector as shown. Plug the engine starter harness 20-pin connector into the fuse box. FUSE BOX 20-PIN FRONT VIEW ENGINE STARTER 20-PIN 20-PIN 4-PIN 46. Reconnect the vehicle 42-pin connector into the fuse box. 47. Route the antenna cable as shown. GROUND TERMINAL 2-PIN 921601BD GROUND BOLT (Reuse.) 20-PIN 921603BD 50. Unplug the vehicle 23-pin connector from the underside of the fuse box and plug the engine starter harness 23-pin connector (white) into the fuse box. 23-PIN (White) FUSE BOX 23-PIN CABLE 921602BD 23-PIN 921604BD 48. 51. Unplug the vehicle 24-pin connector from the underside of the fuse box and plug it into the engine starter harness 24-pin connector as shown. FUSE BOX 24-PIN 55. Secure the vehicle fuse case to the vehicle harness with one wire tie. WIRE TIE FUSE BOX 24-PIN 24-PIN 24-PIN 921605BD 52. Install the engine starter harness 24-pin connector to the 24-pin connector on the underside of the fuse box as shown. FUSE BOX FUSE CASE ENGINE STARTER FUSE CASE 20-PIN 921607BD 56. Install the engine starter harness fuse case to the vehicle 20-pin connector. 53. Remove the vehicle fuse case. URETHANE TAPE 57. Secure the antenna cable to the engine starter harness with one wire tie. 23-PIN (Blue) WIRE TIE CABLE FUSE BOX URETHANE TAPE FUSE CASE 921606BD ENGINE STARTER SRS (Yellow) ENGINE STARTER 54. Wrap the vehicle fuse case with one urethane tape half cut in step 26. 3 WIRE TIES 921608BD 58. 59. Attach one wire tie with clip to the engine starter harness at the white tape, then push the clip into the hole in the steering hanger beam. 62. Attach the wire tie with clip to the engine starter harness at the white tape, then push the clip into the hole in the bracket. Install the bracket on the instrument panel with one 6 x 12 mm washer bolt and one 6 mm flange nut. 63. 64. Unplug the vehicle 7-pin connector (brown) from the ignition switch and plug in the engine starter harness 7-pin connector (brown) as shown. Make sure the engine starter harness 7-pin connector (brown) is plugged in securely. A loose connector can cause the engine to stall. 67. Place the vehicle 7-pin connector (brown) into the gap of the column. 7-PIN (Brown) PANEL 7-PIN (Brown) IGNITION SWITCH URETHANE TAPE WIRE TIE 972303AD 68. Secure the engine starter harness to the vehicle harness with two wire ties. Pull the connector and make sure it is locked. 7-PIN (Brown) ENGINE STARTER 721301AK 69. Unplug the vehicle 8-pin connector (black) from the wiper switch. Plug the engine starter harness 8-pin connector to the wiper switch. 65. Wrap the vehicle 7-pin connector (brown) with a urethane tape. 66. Unplug the vehicle 7-pin connector (white) from the ignition switch and plug in the engine starter harness 7-pin connector (white) as shown. 70. Plug the vehicle 8-pin connector (black) to the engine starter harness 8-pin connector. 73. Align the white tape on the engine starter harness to the vehicle clip, and secure the engine starter harness to the vehicle harness with one wire tie. 8-PIN (Black) WHITE TAPE WIRE TIE ENGINE STARTER RELAY BLOCK WIRE TIE 8-PIN (Black) FRAME 6D01171Y 71. Secure the engine starter harness 8-pin connector (black) to the vehicle harness with one wire tie. 72. Install the engine starter harness fuse case on the vehicle relay block. CLIP 74. Secure the relay block of the engine starter harness to the vehicle frame. 75. 77. Bundle the excess antenna cable and secure it to the vehicle harness with one wire tie. CABLE Bundle the excess. 80. Install the control unit to the control unit bracket. CONTROL UNIT WIRE TIE DRIVER S UNDER COVER CONTROL UNIT CONTROL UNIT BRACKET TA WIRE TIE 921704BD 78. Secure the antenna cable to the vehicle harness with two wire ties. 79. Install the control unit bracket on the driver s under cover with two 5 x 12 mm self-tapping screws. SELF-TAPPING SCREW, 5 x 12 mm CONTROL UNIT BRACKET 921706AD 81. Using isopropyl alcohol on a shop towel, thoroughly clean the area where the urethane tape will attach. If the vehicle is equipped with a vehicle security system, go to step 104; otherwise, continue with step 83. 83. Remove the radiator cover (five clips A and two clips B). 87. Remove four self-tapping screws from the left inner fender. 2 CLIPS B 5 CLIPS A LEFT INNER FENDER RADIATOR COVER 920501AX 4 SELF-TAPPING SCREWS 88. Turn down the left inner fender (six clips). 771301AK 84. Remove the left fender arch (one clip, two self-tapping screws, and six clips). LEFT INNER FENDER OLD SPACER SPACER ADHESIVE BACKING Remove. 6 CLIPS LEFT FENDER ARCH 6 CLIPS 2 SELF-TAPPING SCREWS 771302AK CLIP 721305AK 85. Remove two old spacers from left fender arch. 86. 89. Using a felt-tip pen, mark around the vehicle hood lock for reinstallation. 93. Align the new hood lock with the marks you made, and install it with the three bolts you removed. Torque the bolts to 10 N. m (7.2 lbf-ft). HOOD LOCK MARK FELT-TIP PEN MARK HOOD LOCK 3 BOLTS 3 BOLTS (Reuse.) 6311080Y 90. Remove the hood lock (three bolts). 91. Remove the hood lock opener cable from the vehicle hood lock. 6311100Y 94. Route the grommet end of the hood switch harness from the engine compartment into the left fender as shown. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery. 110. Enter the customer s radio anti-theft code, and reset the radio station presets. 111. Reset the clock. 112. If the vehicle is equipped with automatic climate control, do the following. Setting the Automatic Defrost Function Setting the automatic defrost function must be done while the vehicle air conditioner is in the OFF position. Turn the air conditioner to the OFF position with the ignition switch in the ON (II) position, then turn the ignition switch to the LOCK (0) position. While holding the REAR DEFOGGER switch and the RECIRCULATION switch, turn the ignition switch to the ON (II) position. The Set temperature and a letter (CL or AC) on the air conditioner display will blink after 5 seconds, and stays on after 10 seconds. Within 1 second, press the command button, and then the start button on the transmitter. The engine should start if all operating conditions are met. Does the engine start? Yes - Operation is normal. No: Make sure all Operating Conditions are met. Check the engine starter harness connections. Connect the HDS and check for an indicated failure. (Refer to the appropriate service manual for details.) 2. Press the command button on the transmitter, and within 1 second, press the stop button. The engine should stop. Does the engine stop? Yes - Operation is normal. No - Check the engine starter harness connections. 3. After the engine has stopped, start the engine again, and check that the engine stops after each of the following conditions: NOTE: After each test the ignition key must be cycled, or the driver s door must be opened and closed Move the shift lever out of the P position. Unlock or open the doors or the tailgate. Open the hood. Insert the key in the ignition. Press on the brake pedal. Does the engine stop after each of these tests? Check that the power window and the moonroof do not function and the shift lever does not move to any position but the P position when the engine is started with the transmitter. 5.
