The Most Expensive Models in the Hobby Cars not only come in big sizes, they are also scaled to fit into the palm of your hands. From Ferrari to Volkswagen, every rare model car has a story, which makes collecting them even more fun. If you really want to go all the way with your collection, certain companies have produced very exclusive model cars, that were only made in small quantities or that are even one of a kind. But what are the top 10 most expensive model cars of today? Find out in this article. 10. Matchbox 1967 Magirus Deutz Crane (No. 30)Model car collectors could only dream of one day stumbling upon a 1967 no. 30 matchbox crane at a neighbourhood garage sale. If it was back in the 1980s, he or she would have paid 10 for it. Now a brown no. 30 crane is worth 13,000. 9. Beatnik Bandit HotwheelsOne of the original Sweet 16 cars of the Hotwheels. The car is futuristic and made out of fibreglass with a see-through plexiglass bubble top. It doesn't get any more retro than this. Originally the model car was designed in 1963. The line came out in different colours, but the rarest of them all was the hot pink car which was made in an effort to get girls interested in toy cars as well. Unfortunately, this plan didn't work and the pink car was discontinued, making it now a rare car to find, so rare that the hot pink Bandit is now worth around 15,000. 8. Ferrari 250 GTOThe Ferrari 250 GTO might be the best Ferarri in the world. The model size cars (scale 1:8) are not bad either. The 250 GTO comes in different models but the company who makes them, named Amalgam, sell the Ferrari 250 GTO for more than 18,000. 7. Dinky Pre-war No.22D Delivery Van 'W.E. Boyce'?Dinky Vehicles are a particular hit amongst collectors. The most expensive die-cast vehicle ever sold was the pre-war 'type 22' WE Boyce from Dinky toys. Dinky toys began its life in 1934 as a Meccano spin-off. The vehicles originally were sold as an accessory for railway kits. The small car today is worth 22,000. 6. Tomica Z432 Datsun?A collector's model car of the highest order: Tomica Datsun. This beauty is made from real platinum and took a month tomake. This very small car was made to celebrate Tomica's 40th anniversary, six years ago. Tomica started making car models in 1970 and millions of children (and not so young Page 2
children) have played with them ever since. This exclusive car cost the owner a whopping 80,000. black diamonds, 319 white suit you better. This Lambo cost around 6 million. What 5. Volkswagen Beach Bomb? This Hotwheels Volkswagen Beach Bomb is a prototype. Of course, the fact that this model is a prototype makes it special but another factor is the surfboards that are hanging out of the back window of the car. The prototype is dated back to 1969. These cars are made in rose colour with a black interior. The size of the model is also rare because it's unusually large. It's worth 125,000. 4. 40th-anniversary Hot Wheels? There was only one model of this car produced for the Hot Wheels 40th anniversary, issued in 2008. A celebrity jeweller designed this special car made of 18 ct white gold, 1,388 blue diamonds, 988 diamonds and 8 rubies. It is worth around 140,000. 3. Bugatti Veyron? If the previous 7 models were too ordinary for your taste, then the next luxury car is sure to be more your thing. The Bugatti Veyron. It's a 1:18 scale of the original and is made of 24 ct solid gold and platinum plus 7.2 ct of a single cut diamond! The only downside of this beauty is the fact that it took two months to finish. 2. Lamborghini AventadorDo you have your heart set on a beautiful Lambo but fancy something a bit smaller for yourself? Well, the 1:8 scaled Lamborghini Aventador will is great about this model is the fact that it is an exact replica of the real deal, outside and inside. 1. Lamborghini Aventador Gold? The last model on our list is the Lamborghini Aventador Gold edition. Just as number 9, the Lambo is 1:8 scaled and made with incredible detail. What makes this Lambo even better is the fact that the car is wrapped in gold. The real thing cost around 400,000, but this baby is worth 7.5 million, which makes this car the most expensive model car in the world! Custom Restoration of a Ford Cortina #25 Matchbox Lesney Regular Wheels I decided to restore this model not into its original Brown colour, but rather into the African Safari Model (that of the 1967 African safari Rally car of Hughes & Snyder) the model had rather bad pitting and the pit marks had to be closed up, for this I used primer and then sanded the roof down, once flush, another layer of primer had to be sprayed on. The interior was sprayed black to match the original, decals had to be designed from scratch, and alone took 2 hours to cut and place, the bonnet is a large matt decal in black. In the Next Newsletter, Restoration of a 1966 Ford Galaxie Page 3
