CSRA Mustang Club AUGUST 2017 From the Editor Todd Smith Happy September! 2017 is almost at the ¾ mark. Where has this year gone? As I am writing this, the Kansas City Grand National Show is going on. I was very fortunate to be in the area to see some beautiful cars and hang out with great friends. I even got to meet Gary Patterson and have a great conversation with him. I hope everyone is taking part in some of the local cruise ins that are in the area. I believe Matt coordinated the 3 rd Friday meet ups at the Sonic on Fury s Ferry road. Please go by and support the local businesses so we can have their support when it comes time for our national show. As the year is winding down, remember that our Board of Director s times are ending. We will be nominating and voting within the next few months. This will be a great time for others to step in and become more active in the running of the club. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as Secretary/Editor and will do my part to help the incoming one transition easily. Keep the shiny side up and between the lines! Why I Chose My Mustang Jarod Aldridge It all started with a love for Foxbody Mustangs and a dream. I have always loved Foxbody s and have grown up with one in the driveway my whole childhood. When I turned 15, I knew it was time to start searching for a car I would love to drive and work on as a project. I saw my car posted on craigslist multiple times before hand but never thought I would be able to pick it up. The price was a little high and I didn t think mom would approve. This was in September of 2016. The next month, we went to Foxtober fest in Kannapolis, North Carolina and my dad and I really got in the mood to buy another Foxbody. When we returned home, I saw my 1986 Mustang Convertible posted on craigslist for $1000, way cheaper than the original listing price. I immediately sent the owner a message saying I was interested and would like to come look at it. We agreed on a day to meet up to look at it and it seemed that this dream of mine to own a Foxbody was about to become a reality. Until, that day, I sent him a message asking if we were still good to meet that day. He told me he had sold the car earlier that morning. I was depressed about not being able to get the car but I knew something was to come from this event. So I searched craigslist and Facebook marketplace looking for another mustang (preferably a Foxbody) to pick up. About 2 weeks later, I see the same 1986 Mustang Convertible posted on craigslist again. I thought to myself, what were the odds that the same Foxbody was available for the same price. I immediately sent the owner a message to meet up. Later that week, we met up and i knew this car was meant to be mine. After a day or two of arranging how to get it home, it came home on October 25, 2016. I was officially an owner of a 1986 Mustang Convertible with a 3.8 litre V6 powerplant. I chose this car because it was a great car for me to start out on and a great project car for my dad and I to work on in our off time. I enjoy my Mustang love to tinker on it after school. I have many things planned for it like a 5.0 swap and multiple appearance upgrades. It may not be perfect but I love it and it will always be my first car love. PAGE 4

Ford Mustang has long held a special place in the history of American cars and the Woodward Dream Cruise. In 1995, the Dream Cruise s inaugural year, the top-performing Ford Mustang SVT Cobra R was noteworthy for its 300 horsepower 5.8-liter V8. Today, a 2017 Ford Performance Mustang Shelby GT350R features 526 horsepower and a 5.2-liter flat plane crank V8 that is both the most power-dense and the most powerful naturally aspirated roadgoing engine in Ford history. In addition to the fun-to-drive Ford Mustang GT350 and GT350R, Ford Performance also offers a wide lineup of vehicles to meet almost any budget or terrain, including Fiesta ST, Focus ST, F-150 Raptor and the Ford GT supercar with a top speed of 216 mph the highest ever for any Ford production vehicle. The fun of driving can be even more thrilling for first-time drivers. To help newly licensed drivers master their vehicles, Ford is bringing its award-winning Driving Skills For Life program to the Woodward Dream Cruise for the first time. Young enthusiasts and new drivers will get the opportunity to learn safe driving techniques with the help of a new virtual reality app with Ford Driving Skills for Life. The educational experience is being hosted by Ford Motor Company Fund, the philanthropic arm of Ford Motor Company. We are elated to have Ford Motor Company s commitment to the Woodward Dream Cruise, and we look forward to working together on this annual tradition that puts our region in the national and international spotlight, said Tony Michaels, executive director, Woodward Dream Cruise. Ford consistently strives to make the Detroit region stronger, and we are incredibly grateful for their partnership. PAGE 6
