Our Sponsor: Harley-Davidson Of New Port Richey 5817 SR 54, Port Richey Fl. Harley-Davidson Of New Port Richey GM George Kazery gkazery@ferman.com 727-842-4547 Harley-Davidson Of New Port Richey HOG Chapter Mgr. & Dealer Rep Anthony Iapichino bucsbike@yahoo.com 727-534-9697 Your Director: Jeff Ballard I m very pleased and excited to have been selected to be the Director for our New Port Richey Hog club. I have been a member in good standing since 2011, and the Assistant Director for our club for the past two years. For the members that don t know me, I started riding motorcycles as a teenager with my dad in the early 1970 s in Shawneetown, Illinois. I have been riding for over 20 years. Cindy and I moved to Florida 18 years ago, and though I had no plans on riding a motorcycle in this crazy traffic, you all know riding a Harley gets in your blood, so after a few years of getting used to the traffic here, my wife and I decided to start riding again. We then joined the HOG group because not only is it safer to ride in numbers, but it s also a great way to make new friends. We bought a used Harley Sportster which we rode for a few years, trading it off for a 2007 Electra Glide then on to what we now ride, a 2014 Ultra. I m looking forward to the new chal- lenges that the director position entails, and I know that I will make my share of mistakes, so please have patience with me in my new role. I would also like to thank Frank Crawford for leading our club for the past 5 years; he is going to be a hard act to follow. I would also like to remind everyone this is our best riding time of the year with the cooler temperatures, but we also have to be very aware of our seasonal friends from up North as they fill our roads and most of the time looking for where they re going and not watching for us on our motorcycles. Be very aware of your surroundings and be ready for them to cut you off or just plain not see you and pull out in front of you. Please check out our riding calendar frequently for changes and upcoming rides. I m looking forward to a fun year as we move our club forward into another fabulous HOG Chapter 1027 new year. Assistant Director: Frank Crawford Musings from the Assistant Director for January 2019 Capn' Frank Well here we are, time for the changing of the guard for 2019. I will be doing double duty for a while in support of Director Jeff Ballard, which will include the Head Road Captain position. Some members are unsure of exactly what the job of Assistant Director entails. Here is the job description from HOG: Harley-Davidson of New Port Richey GSM Mike Rendine, 813-478-2945 mrendine@ferman.com Assistant Director: shall be responsible for promoting membership, membership orientation, membership retention, and keeping the chapter members informed of H.O.G. programs, and other duties as assigned by the Director. Hmmmmm..other duties as assigned by the Director. That sounds pretty open-ended to me. I will be working for Jeff Ballard, the new Director, helping him to guide our club for the next year. I will assist and support whatever Jeff s vision is to the best of my ability. Ride safely & carefully like your life depends on it..because it does! Capn' Frank Page 4 T H E HO G S O UN D E R

Frank Crawford, Head Road Captain Meanderings from the HRC for January 2019 Capn' Frank Well here we are, time for the changing of the guard. I just hope that as the new Head Road Captain I can keep the torch burning, doing as good a job as John Ott did. Some of the veteran Road Captains have asked if they should expect a Road Captain meeting. Yes, we will get together and talk about ideas, plans, and any concerns that might be floating about. I would like to get plenty of rides on the calendar, in time for the printing of the newsletter each month. The club could also use a few more Road Captains, so if you think you would like the job, please contact me and we can get you started. To be a Road Captain: Possess a current driver's license with a motorcycle endorsement. Ride 3 rides as a Probie, under the mentorship of any current Road Captain in good standing of the New Port Richey HOG 1027. As a Probie, each candidate must select a destination, and clear it with the mentoring RC. Select a route, mapping all turns, stops, etc. Select places for bathroom stops if the ride is more than an hour long. After the mentoring RC ok's the ride, the RP should contact the head RC and have the ride placed on the HOG Ride Calendar. Pre-ride the route, checking for construction, changes in road conditions, where to make lane changes, or anything else that might affect the safety and well being of the group. The Road Private should do the pre ride briefing, covering all details regarding the ride. If the ride is quite long, it might be appropriate to hand out a written list of turns, route #, street names, and the RC cell phone #. We are looking for new and interesting destinations. Please, if anyone has any ideas for a ride, send me a note, a destination, maybe a website, or a description. We will check it out and get a Road Captain to put the ride together. Remember.. Our safety is YOUR personal responsibility Capn' Frank Page 6 T H E HO G S O UN D E R

Safety Officer, Ken Schmidt Ken Schmidt will be our Safety Officer for 2019, and has some great ideas for safety classes, group riding classes and an advanced rider course to make you even safer and more skilled on your Harley-Davidson motorcycle! As always, check the chapter calendar frequently for updates on rides, classes, meetings and fun events! HOG MERCHANDISE Shop at any meeting for HOG Chapter merchandise. Score A Deal SEE ANTHONY! Check with Anthony or Mike Rendine for info on our special HOG deal for 2018!! Visit Harley Davidson of New Port Richey, and see Batman, your Chapter Manager/Dealer, for the H.O.G DEAL OF THE MONTH! Cindy Ballard, Communications Hopefully everyone is receiving their weekly emails, if not, please let me know. Its important to open them and read what is going on for the week, however, there is frequently changes made to the calendar so I would highly recommend checking the weekly calendar on our website. Also, if you follow us on Facebook you will also see any changes being made. We also post a lot of great ride and meeting pictures on Facebook, so like us and keep updated. Since we have acquired a lot of new members, I would love to see the old members take some time to personally welcome them at the meetings or even sit with them. Sometimes it s a little overwhelming for them to walk into a room and see tables full of people together, making them feel like unwanted outsiders. We are thrilled to have our new members, so please be kind and remember, you were a newbie at one time also. I hope everyone has a great Holiday and prosperous New Year. is Ducky s Joke of the month! To Ride or not to ride Three bikers were discussing their problems with getting their wives to let them ride on New Year s Day. The first biker complained, I had to buy my wife a mink coat so she would let me ride and we re in Florida! The second biker griped, I had to buy my wife a diamond tennis bracelet and she doesn t even play! The third biker laughed and said, You two are suckers. I gave my wife a choice; I could ride my Harley or stay home and have sex. She even started my bike for me and gave me beer money! Page 12 T H E HO G S O UN D E R
