This document was published in May 2008. This document supersedes SABS 0241:1993 (edition 1.1). A vertical line in the margin shows where the text has been technically modified by amendment No. 2. Reference is made in clause 3, 7.1.1, 7.2, clause 11, appendix D and annexes 1, 2 and 3 to the relevant national authority. In South Africa this means the Department of Transport. Introduction This standard sets out the terms and conditions, and certain related information, concerning tachograph centres in South Africa, for the installation, repair, checking on installation and subsequent inspection of recording equipment on a general public basis. The Technical Committee responsible for this standard accepted most of the text of the British Department of Transport Standard Tachograph recording equipment Approval of workshops (tachograph centres), with modifications, as suitable for publication as a South African standard.

Tachograph centres Installation and repair facilities, including facilities for the installation of on-board computers 1 Scope This standard covers the facilities, equipment and personnel to be available at a tachograph centre. Testing and inspecting procedures are given for tachographs that comply with the requirements of SANS 1558 and, where applicable, for on-board computers that comply with the requirements of SANS 1552. NOTES 1 This standard does not apply to the original equipment manufacturers unless they have applied for approval as tachograph centres. 2 Throughout this standard reference to tachographs is deemed to include on-board computers, unless otherwise stated. 2 Normative references The following standards contain provisions which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this standard.
