I also had to knock back an invitation to have dinner with Jim Richards in Perth the other night. However there is plenty happening on the home scene with a string of events since our last newsletter. Katherine MVEC had a run and show and shine on 1st July but unfortunately it was very short notice and we still haven t received the promotional flyer. Club Member Trenton Barfoot was the only car from Darwin to attend. Thank you Trenton for flying the flag. Katherine will be doing another event later in the year to coincide with their Xmas Toy n Tucker run. The annual Shannons trophy cricket match at Batchelor between CHCC and MVEC was once again a huge success with excellent attendance from both clubs. CHCC very comfortably won the day. We do lead them in the stakes 13 wins to 12. The Gassers Darwin to the Doo event was another great event and I think we counted 28 members present on the day. The Swap Meet was also very well attended. The rural guys appear to have much more good stuff to get rid of, probably because they have more room than us townies to hoard it. A 1 st time event, the Rockabilly at Noonamah was a great success with about 80 cars in attendance, many not seen before. The ladies dress up show with many dressed in 40 s and 50 s costume was a delight to see. Several of our club members were there also. Unfortunately due to our travels I couldn t be at the City to Souvlaki this year but by all accounts a record turn out by far. Thanks again to Harry and Matoula Mellios for hosting this fantastic event and to John and Kerry Kyriacou for once again organising the feast. Other club members were responsible for organising other facets of the event and thanks to you guys and gals for helping make the day the success it was. The Red CentreNATS will be with us very soon. Could club members advise the Club email address of your attendance and we will organise to have the CHCC as a group in the parade as we did last year. We will also have our marquee and banner for club display over CHCC News August 2017 1
the weekend but we do need to know who is going so we can make sure we can herd everyone together. Club Sponsors The All Holden Day is coming up the week after the NATS and we urge ALL MEMBERS to participate in this inaugural event jointly organised by the CHCC and Darwin Commodores. Phil Brock, brother of the late motor racing legend Peter Brock, will be in attendance as a guest speaker and guest judge and to commemorate the Anniversary of Peter s passing. Thank you to Shannons for sponsoring Phil s attendance. The event is also to support Alan and Julie Stalkers bid in this year s Aussie Muscle Car Run raising funds for the Leukaemia Foundation. The AGM will be upon us next month. There is a motion foreshadowed to make some subtle changes to the constitution. This will be forwarded to members shortly. All positions will be declared vacant and I urge you to put up your hand to get more involved and have a say into the managing and organising of your great club and its events. Club Registration, I cannot leave without a word again. The MVR s audit unit is now up and running and all approved clubs have received requests to look at members log books, picked randomly, to see if they have been completed correctly. These are for particular vehicles at particular locations as noted by MVR employees. All clubs are supportive of this action to make sure members comply because if members do not comply it brings the club into disrepute and threatens the clubs approval status. Your Log Book must be filled in before your commence every journey, before you leave home and must be completed on your return. Well that is it from me I will sign off and go sightseeing in this beautiful part of our great country. See you all at 1 of the many upcoming events in particular for your free lunch at the AGM beats cookin!!! Happy Motoring. John Palamountain President CHCC News August 2017 2
City to Souvlaki Another fantastic City to Souvlaki on Sunday hosted by Harry, Matoula and crew. The hospitality, food and entertainment second to none. There were approx. 120 in attendance and 35 classic cars. A big thankyou to our sponsors Palmerston Paint Group, Nightcliff Builders, Hidden Valley Tourist Park, Batchelor Butterfly Park, John Denton for supplying the portable toilets and anyone else who contributed to prizes and the smooth operation of the day.
