Wentzville Parkway South Phase 2 & 2A Sponsor Wentzville Project No. RB18-000034 Project Type New Road TOTAL FUNDING Phase 2 Total County Sponsor Federal $10,000,000 $8,000,000 $2,000,000 $0 Phase 2A Total County Sponsor Developer $762,000 $326,136 $217,932 $217,932 Project Description In 2013 the City completed the Wentzville Parkway South Corridor Preservation study that identified the corridor to extend five lanes south to Interstate Drive eventually connecting with Wilmer Road. The Wentzville Parkway South Phase 2 improvement project will build upon the Wentzville Parkway South Phase 1 project by extending Wentzville Parkway South to Interstate Drive. The proposed cross section will include a two-lane cross section with curb and gutter and curb inlets along the east side of the roadway and an improve shoulder along the west side that will drain to on open ditch system. This cross section will allow for future expansion to a five lane cross section when traffic demands call for it. This proposed project also proposes to build a 6 foot sidewalk along the east side of the roadway which will connect into the recently constructed Interstate Drive Trail project along Interstate Drive. Also proposed as part of the this project is the construction of a grade separated crossing at the Norfolk Southern Railway. Both graded separated and at-grade crossing were evaluated during the 2013 Wentzville Parkway South Corridor Preservation study. The anticipated operations with an at-grade crossing includes queues in both directions along Wentzville Parkway. The most significant and potentially hazardous queues would impact the operations of the mainline I-70. The cost-benefit analysis conducted comparing a railroad overpass to an at-grade crossing shows that the extra investment into an overpass crossing will provide benefits over the life of the bridge that exceed the additional cost of the bridge. This extension of Wentzville Parkway will also provide for an alternative connection to I-64 which could divert traffic from I-70 during periods of congestion or during highway closures. This project will improve the community through reduced travel delay and congestion as well as improving safety through the region. Parkway South Phase 2A will extend the two lane section from Phase 2 south from Interstate Drive to the northern entrance of a proposed future residential subdivision. This extension while providing the primary access for the residential development will also provide access opportunities for future commercial parcels along Interstate Drive. Upon completion this phase will provide the first leg of the eventual extension of Wentzville Parkway South to tie in with Wilmer Road near Peruque Creek providing an improved north south arterial roadway to meet the demands of a growing region. The funding for this project is proposed as a three way partnership with the proposed developer, to improve their development, as well as stretch municipal and county funding to maximize the scope and benefit of the project.
