UNIT HANDLING PULLEYS & ROLLERS Small diameter pulleys and rollers used in lightweight belt applications typically have a diameter range of 2 through 12, although smaller or larger diameters are occasionally required. PPI has the capabilities to engineer and manufacture components tailored to your needs. HEAVY WALL PULLEY Tube or pipe ¼ thick rim or greater Thick enough for rim machining Available in crown or flat face GAUGE WALL PULLEY Thin wall tubing/pipe Seven (7) gauge rim thickness or below Rim not machinable due to material thickness Available in crown or flat face WELD-IN End discs are bored to allow for the customer to weld-in a through shaft. FIXED BORE Removable shaft extends through the pulley and is held in place with set screws and driven through a keyway. ADAPTER TYPE A compression style hub with a through shaft is affixed by use of a tapered bushing. XT, QD and TaperLock styles are available. SHAFTING PPI conveyor pulley shafting is a vital part of the total pulley assembly. Our experienced machine shop can key and journal shafting to meet nearly any specification.
UNIT HANDLING PULLEYS & ROLLERS BEARINGS ER ball bearing Deep groove ball bearing Spherical roller Solid oil LOW NOISE ROLLERS High speed (>500fpm) unit conveyors have been known to exhibit a high pitched, 100+db, sound emitting from the carry rollers. PPI has developed solutions with the capability of drastic noise reduction. FEATURES AND BENEFITS: 15db noise reduction Wide concentric grooves Promote airflow between roller and belt Machined for low TIR PVC/phthalate resistant, 85 duro, neoprene lagging Rubber Lagged Aluminum Tube Aluminum tube Deep groove ball bearings 50% lower weight than standard carry roller assembly Drop-in equivalent to all common 2.125 carry rollers (with slight installation modification) Rubber Lagged Steel Tube Steel tube ER bearings Nearly a drop-in equivalent to all common 2.125 carry rollers. (2.375 diameter) STATIC END ROLLER TUBE Static end design eliminates pinch points between belt and roller Spherical roller or ball bearings do not require re-lubing Bolts onto many present systems with mounting brackets Many shaft end details available, contact your PPI representative for details Tube can be machined to stringent tolerances minimizing run out
UNIT HANDLING PULLEYS & ROLLERS OPTIONAL FEATURES V-GROOVE PULLEY For applications where belt tracking requires a V-guide in the surface of the pulley, use a PPI V-groove pulley. Available in all hub types. STEEL LAGGING EDGE OR END CROWN This is a partial crown, commonly used on machined faced tube pulleys, where the pulley crown is machined only on the edges at the standard crown rate. The center of the pulley is left unmachined. TRAP OR TRAPEZOIDAL CROWN This is a partial crown, used when specified on tube pulleys. For a trap crown the entire face of the pulley is machined for better TIR throughout before crowning the ends at the standard crown rate. LAGGING & KNURLING Many options exist when it comes to the belt contact surface. These are generally intended to increase the traction between the pulley and belt or to extend the life of the pulley. Lagging is common and the choices are numerous. Materials such as SBR, neoprene, urethane, nitrile and EPDM may be selected to best meet specific chemical or environmental challenges encountered. PPI can perform knurling in a multitude of designs and depths to give the level of belt engagement desired, from mild to aggressive.
FOOD GRADE PULLEYS KV-DRIVE The patented KV Drive Pulley has a positive, quiet and self-tracking feature with 100% stainless steel construction and 3-A sanitary approval for food and dairy. Originally designed to drive a positive drive belt, it can be used to run on other belts such as the flat belt and standard A section V-Guide belt designs. The KV Drive Pulley, when used with a positive drive belt, will outlast and outperform modular belts with plastic sprockets. K-DRIVE Existing assembly drives consists of notched, square shafts with locking collars holding sprockets in place. These assemblies are difficult to clean and lends themselves to migrating sprockets which decreases drive efficiency. PPI s revolutionary one-piece, K-Drive patented technology eliminates those components for ease of cleaning and provides remarkable wear and less belt stress. K-DRIVE VS. TRADITIONAL DESIGN Eliminates the need for shaft collars and/or snap rings Can be made with or without flanges for tracking Eliminates chances of sprockets breaking in field TRADITIONAL SPROCKET DESIGN Greater sanitation due to few parts and press-fit shaft design Exceptional pulley and belt wear due to use of acetal
FOOD GRADE PULLEYS DRUM PULLEYS Surface finishes and shaft attachment methods are very flexible and can be modified to meet customer demands. XT, QD, Taper-Lock, weld in shafts or fixed bores with set screws are a few of the more popular hub types available. PPI is capable of producing demanding rim surfaces such as knurling, V guide sections or proprietary KV-Drive and K-Drive positive drive systems. WING PULLEYS Decades of experience making stainless steel wing pulleys attest to PPI s effectiveness. Offered in XT, QD, Taper-Lock, weld-in, sealed ball bearing cartridge with set screw, and fixed bore set screw hubs. Smooth TIG or MIG welded joints resist buildup and make cleanup easier. CUSTOM PULLEYS PPI understands that you face unique challenges that require unique solutions. PPI produces custom pulleys every day for all timing and positive belt drives and welcome the opportunity to help solve your most demanding challenges. Whether it s cooling drums or specialized timing pulleys, no matter what size or application, call the pulley experts at PPI to get it right the first time.
FOOD GRADE PULLEYS OPTIONAL FEATURES LAGGING OPTIONS AND KNURLING Lagging is the use of an elastomer compound on the face or contact surface of a pulley to increase the friction between the pulley and the belt. Increasing this friction reduces belt slipping and the belt tension required to drive the conveyor. This equates to longer belt and component life and increases reliability. Lagging can also greatly reduce wear caused by abrasive materials and prevent buildup of sticky material on pulley surfaces. PPI offers a variety of lagging compounds for a broad range of applications. These include SBR, white neoprene, urethane, carboxylated nitrile (XNBR), nitrile, EPDM and silicone. For those applications that require additional grip from a steel rim, PPI offers complete knurling services. Options include straight groove, herringbone and diamond as well as custom designs. SELF-LEVELING FOOT PADS PPI Self-Leveling Foot Pads are an all stainless steel design which allows their use in food production applications. They are available in a wide variety of standard sizes and lengths with load carrying capacities of up to 28,000 lbs. HUBS AND BUSHINGS A pulley assembly is only as good as the components that go into it. That is why PPI makes their own stainless steel hubs and bushings. The process allows PPI to control the quality of the raw materials and the machining tolerances that go into each one. Available in XT, QD, and Taper-Lock. OTHER CAPABILITIES For the food industry, pulleys are not all PPI can provide. The capability to design, duplicate, and manufacture many parts to meet your needs is available.
