The trade names of the individual machines may vary. Operating Controls 1 Torque setting ring 2 Keyless chuck 3 Rotational direction switch 4 On/Off switch 5 Battery 6 Battery unlocking button 7 Screwdriver attachment (bit) 8 Universal bit holder Not all the illustrated or described accessories are included as standard delivery. Intended Use The machine is intended for the screwing in and loosening of screws and for drilling in wood, metal, ceramics and plastic. Noise/Vibration Information Measured values determined according to EN 50 144. The A-weighted sound pressure level of the tool is less than 70 db (A). The noise level when working can exceed 85 db (A). Wear ear protection! The typical hand-arm vibration is below 2.5 m/s 2. For Your Safety Working safely with this machine is possible only when the operating and safety information is read completely and the instructions contained therein are strictly followed. In addition, the general safety notes in the safety notes section must be observed. Wear safety glasses. If you have long hair, wear a protective hairnet. Work only with close-fitting clothes. Before each use, check the machine and battery. If damage is detected, do not use the machine. Have repairs performed only by a qualified technician. Never open the machine yourself. Before any work on the machine itself (e. g. maintenance, tool change, etc.) as well as when transporting and storing it, always set the rotational direction switch to the middle position. Otherwise an injury may occur when unintentionally pressing the On/Off switch. Before using, make sure the battery fits securely inside the machine. Do not load the machine so heavily that it comes to a standstill. Always hold the machine securely because strong reaction moments can occur as a result of the driving-in process. 3 2 609 140 210 TMS 13.11.02 English - 1

2 609 140 210 - Buch Seite 2 Montag, 18. November 2002 8:07 08 Secure the workpiece. Clamping devices or a vise will hold the workpiece in place better than the hand. Never allow children to use the machine. Bosch can only guarantee a flawless functioning of the machine if the original accessories intended for it are used. Battery and Battery Charger The enclosed operating instructions for the battery charger must be read carefully! Allow heated batteries to cool before charging. Protect the battery from heat and fire: Explosion risk! Do not place the battery on radiators or expose it to strong sun rays for a long time period; temperatures over 50 C cause damage. Do not open the battery and protect from impact. Store in a dry and frost-free place. Do not dump the battery into the household waste, fire or water. Before Use Battery Charging A battery that is new or has not been used for a longer period does not develop its full capacity until after approximately 5 charging/discharging cycles. To remove the battery 5, press the unlocking buttons 6 and pull out the battery downwards. Do not exert any force. The battery is equipped with an NTC temperature monitor which allows charging only within a temperature range of 0 C to 45 C. This will prolong the useful life of the battery. A significantly reduced working period after charging indicates a used up battery that must be replaced. Observe the indications regarding environmental protection. Changing the Tool Open the chuck until the tool can be inserted. Then, insert the tool. Hold the rear sleeve tight and firmly tighten the front sleeve by hand, until the locking action ( click ) is no longer heard. The drill chuck is locked automatically. The locking is released again when the front collar is turned in the opposite direction to remove the tool. Screwdriving (see figures A + B ) Clamp the bit 7 directly into the drill chuck. We recommend using the universal bit holder 8 for quick changes. Initial Operation Inserting the Battery Set the rotational direction switch 3 to the center position = lock-off and allow the charged battery 5 to engage into the handle. Switching On and Off To start the unit, press the On/Off switch 4. The machine runs with variable speed between 0 and maximum depending on the pressure applied to the On/Off switch 4. Light pressure results in a low rotational speed, thus allowing smooth, controlled starts. Do not load the machine so heavily that it comes to a standstill. To switch off the unit, release the On/Off switch 4. Run-On Brake When the On/Off switch 4 is released, the chuck brakes to a stop, thus preventing the run-on of the tool. For screwdriving work, wait until the screw is screwed in flush with the material and then release the On/Off switch 4. By doing so, the head of the screw does not penetrate into the material. 4 2 609 140 210 TMS 13.11.02 English - 2

2 609 140 210 - Buch Seite 3 Montag, 18. November 2002 8:07 08 Changing the Rotational Direction Operate the rotational direction switch 3 only at a standstill. The rotational direction switch 3 changes the directional rotation of the machine. However, this is not possible if the On/Off a b switch 4 is being pressed. Right Rotation ( a ) Turn the rotational direction switch through to the left stop (normal operation: drilling, driving in screws, etc). Left Rotation ( b ) Press the rotational direction switch to the right as far as it will go (loosening or unscrewing of screws and nuts). Setting the Torque Carry out a practical test to determine with which one of the 5 settings of the torque setting ring 1 the screws are driven flush into the material. Low setting, e. g., small screws, soft 1 materials. High setting, e. g., large screws, hard 5 materials. With the correct setting, the clutch disengages as soon as the screw is driven flush into the material or the set torque is reached. Select a higher setting when driving out screws, or set to the Drilling symbol. The correct setting is to be determined by practical testing. Drilling Set the torque setting ring 1 to the Drilling symbol. Replacing the Chuck For machines without a drill spindle locking facility, the chuck must be changed by an authorized customer service facility for Bosch power tools. The chuck must be tightened with a starting torque of approx. 30 40 Nm. Tips It is advisable to drill a pilot hole first before attempting to screw in large, long screws into hard materials. Maintenance and Cleaning Before any work on the machine itself, remove the battery. For safe and proper working, always keep the machine and the ventilation slots clean. Should the machine fail in spite of careful manufacturing and testing, its repair should be carried out by a Bosch power tools authorized service agent. For all correspondence and spare parts orders, always include the 10-digit part number of the machine! Environmental Protection Recycle raw materials instead of disposing them as waste The machine, its accessories and packaging materials should be sorted for environmentallyfriendly recycling. These instructions are printed on chlorine-free recycled paper. The plastic components are labeled for categorized recycling. Nickel-cadmium-battery: If your product is equipped with a nickel-cadmium-battery, the battery must be collected, recycled or disposed of in an environmentally-friendly way. Defective or worn-out batteries must be recycled according to the 91/157/EEC guideline. 5 2 609 140 210 TMS 13.11.02 English - 3
