Gate/Gobe/Check Introduction Vaves to API 600 The AIL Cast Stee Gate, Gobe and Check Vaves have estabished themseves the word over for their quaity, reiabiity and ong service. The vaves are manufactured to the atest internationa designs, using advanced manufacturing techniques and stringent quaity contro checks. The vaves are reguary suppied to major internationa cients incuding oi refining companies and EPC contractors. A wide network of distributors ensures that avaiabiity of AIL vaves anywhere in the word. AUDCO INDIA LIMITED (AIL) is a eading vave manufacturer, with a strong presence in India and overseas. AIL has three manufacturing faciities ocated in Southern India. The main pant is ocated in Manapakkam, Chennai. The two other pants are at Maraimaai Nagar, 40 kiometres south and at Kancheepuram, 70 kiometres west of the main pant. The pants are equipped with modern manufacturing faciities with specia-purpose machines, automatic weding equipment, heat treatment furnaces and testing equipment for tota contro of a manufacturing operations. In-house metaurgica and NDE aboratories, and caibration faciities with modern equipment provide support to ensure the quaity of products manufactured. AIL Vaves to API 600 API 600 AIL Gate, Gobe & Check Vaves Boted Bonnet / Cover design The API 600 famiy of AIL Gate, Gobe and Swing Check Vaves is exceptionay sturdy, rugged and durabe, with a reputation for quaity, integrity and ong service. They are designed for tight seaing and ease of operation. The vaves are avaiabe with fanged ends or butt-wed ends, in pressure ratings from ASME Cass 150 to Cass 1500, and in a variety of materias of construction. Gate Vaves are of fexibe wedge, outside screwand-yoke and boted-bonnet construction. The vaves conform to API 600. Gobe Vaves feature a ba-type disc, outside screwand-yoke and boted-bonnet construction. They conform to BS 1873 and aso meet the genera requirements of API 600, incuding she wa thickness and stuffing box dimensions. Check Vaves are of swing-type and boted-cover construction. They conform to BS 1868 and aso meet the genera requirements of API 600, incuding she wa thickness. Body and Bonnet The body and bonnet are cast with uniform section and generous radius fiets to prevent stress concentration. The castings are precision-machined for high performance. Body-Bonnet Joint The body-bonnet joint for Cass 150 gate vaves is ova in shape, whie for Cass 300 and for gobe vaves, this joint is circuar in shape. In 2 (50mm) vaves, the body-bonnet joint has a square configuration. Gate vaves of Cass 150 rating have a fatface joint with a graphite gasket having metaic inserts. Those of Cass 300 rating have a mae-femae type joint with a spiraywound gasket. Gate vaves of Cass 600 rating and above have a Ring Type Joint (RTJ). Gobe and Check vaves in Cass 150 and 300 ratings have a mae-femae type joint with a spiray-wound gasket. Those of Cass 600 rating and above have an RTJ. Square Joint Circuar Joint The gate vave body has a straight through port without recesses except at the seat area. This ensures minimum turbuence, erosion and resistance to fow. Long integra guide ribs in the body match with guide sots in the wedge for accurate aignment and guidance. Bonnet castings are of one-piece design, where the yoke is integra with the bonnet for gate vaves of sizes up to 12 (300mm). This ensures accurate aignment of stem and a smooth operation. Back Seat In AIL gate and gobe vaves, a precisionmachined back-seat bush is threaded in the bonnet and is secured by a tab-wed. tab tab wed In gobe vaves of arger sizes and for higher pressure casses of ASME Cass 900 and above, the interna part of the body is machined to provide continuous guiding of the disc from the open to the cosed position. The check vave body provides a fu port without pockets from inet to the vave seat. On the downstream side, the body has generous proportions to faciitate fu swing of the disc to reduce disc erosion and fow resistance. Fexibe Wedge AIL gate vaves feature a one-piece cast fexibe wedge that minimises stress concentration. Wedge fexibiity ensures tight seating over a wide range of differentia pressures and temperatures. It aso adjusts to sight misaignments caused by pipeine defections and therma deformation. The stem-to-wedge thrust is appied cose to the wedge centre. This reduces atera stem oading and provides for more accurate wedge movement. 06

Ba-type Disc AIL gobe vaves feature a ba-type disc that provides a fine grain surface on the taper seat. For severe services that demand hard-faced seats, a pug-type disc is provided. Swing-type Disc Assemby The one-piece construction is securey fastened to the hinge by means of a ock nut and pin. The disc is free to rotate to avoid ocaized wear. The hinge pin offers exceent wear resistance properties. Seat Ring AIL gate vaves and check vaves feature a sea-weded seat ring that offers a eakproof design as it eiminates the eakage path betwen the seat ring and the body. This design is superior to screwed seats which can oosen up due to temperature fuctuations, corrosion or vibration and resut in eakage. For 50mm gate vaves, the seat ring is fared into the body, whie sea weding is optiona. AIL gobe vaves feature a shouder type, threaded body seat ring which has a wide taper area that provides for ampe seating. Sots on the seat ring aow easy in-situ remova for servicing. Threaded seat rings are secured by a tab-wed. Weded seat rings are aso avaibe in AIL Gobe Vaves Yoke Seeve and Yoke Bush Cast in austenitic, copper-free ductie iron aoy to provide resistance to heat, corrosion and wear, the Yoke Seeve in gate vaves features a ong thread engagement that assures accurate aignment of the stem. Moreover, it can be removed without repacing the bonnet. In gate vaves of sizes 150mm and higher in Cass 600 rating and above, the yoke seeve is mounted on thrust bearings to faciitate easy operation. The Yoke Bush of gobe vaves is aso made from ductie iron aoy, and has a ong thread engagement for accurate stem aignment. In Cass 900 and 1500 ratings, the vaves have a yoke seeve to faciitate smooth operation. Stuffing Box The machined stuffing box chamber with a fat bottom aows correct seaing of the gand packing. Surface finish is controed to required imits, to ensure ow-emission performance. Stuffing boxes are provided with five numbers of gand packing to achieve correct compression of a packings and to ensure tight seaing. Vaves in Cass 300 rating and above feature a provision for a antern ring arrangement for conditions that demand that there be no eakage of service fuid to the atmosphere. The antern ring has a eakoff pug which aows connection for iquid or grease sea. See page 25 for more detais on antern ring. AIL Vaves to API 600 Stem AIL gate and gobe vaves feature a stem of one-piece construction, ACME threaded and precision-machined with poished surfaces to reduce friction, minimise eakage and extend stem ife. In gate vaves, the heavy forged T-head engages with the T-sot in the wedge. The stem aso has an integra sef-adjusting radia back-seat shouder that matches with the back-seat bush in the bonnet. In gobe vaves, the stem is hed to the disc by a stem nut that permits the disc to swive. This free-foating design ensures uniform seating. Fange Driing and Facing finish The standard range of AIL fanged vaves in sizes of up to 24 (600mm) is finished with end-fanges faced, dried and spot-faced (or backfaced) to ASME B16.5 Raised Face (RF). Fanges in vaves of sizes arger than 24 (600mm) are dried as per ASME B16.47 Series A (MSS SP 44) or Series B (API 605). Vaves in ASME Cass 600 and above are offered with RTJ end fanges on request. The standard finish offered on the raised faces is 125-250 microns in Ra (AARH) Spira Serration. Other finishes can be offered on request. 07

AIL Vaves to API 603 API 603 AIL Stainess Stee Gate Vaves Boted Bonnet design The API 603 famiy of AIL Stainess Stee Gate Vaves is an economic aternative to API 600 Stainess Stee Gate Vaves. They are avaiabe in fanged construction and in pressure ratings of ASME Cass 150 and Cass 300. Gate Vaves are of fexibe wedge,outside screw-andyoke and boted-bonnet construction. Body and Bonnet The body and bonnet are cast with uniform section and generous radius fiets to prevent stress concentration. The castings are precision-machined for high performance. The gate vave body has a straight through port without recesses except at the seat area. This ensures minimum turbuence, erosion and resistance to fow. Long integra guide ribs in the body match with fu-ength guide sots in the wedge fo accurate aignment and guidance. AIL Vaves to ASME B16.34 ASME B16.34 AIL Gate, Y-Gobe & Check Vaves Pressure Sea Bonnet design The ASME B16.34 famiy of AIL Gate, Y-Gobe and Swing Check Vaves features a pressure sea bonnet design for high pressure services. These vaves are extensivey used in high pressure and high temperature steam, oi, gas, chemica and water appications in therma power pants, fertiiser pants, petrochemica pants and refineries. The vaves are avaiabe with butt-wed ends in pressure ratings of Casses 900, 1500 and 2500, and come in carbon stee and aoy stee construction. Gate vaves aso meet the requirements of API 600 Stye A. GATE VALVES Parae Side Disc Mechanism This mechanism consists of two independent discs hed by a disc carrier. An aoy stee spring between the discs provides the initia oading to keep the discs pressed against the body seats. The disc faces are parae to each other and sea on parae seat rings in the body. Seaing takes pace by utiizing the ine pressure to provide tight sea on the downstream seat. As the two discs are independent and parae, opening / cosing torques are significanty ower than comparabe wedge disc designs, thereby minimizing the possibiity of jamming at high temperatures or pressures. When the vave is operated, the discs are aowed to side and rotate over the body seats. This heps wipe out foreign partices from the seat faces. body seat ring spring discs disc carrier Yoke Seeve and Thrust Bearings The yoke seeve is made of noduar Niresist Iron, supported by a set of bearings to reduce friction and the consequent torque required to operate the vaves. Noduar Niresist Iron aso withstands high temperatures. Weather seas, provided in the yoke seeve, protect the bearing area against ingress of dirt and water. Pressure Sea arrangement for body-bonnet joint This pressure sea body-bonnet joint utiizes the ine pressure to create a tight body-bonnet sea. Seaing is achieved by compressing a high-purity graphite gasket between the bonnet and the body retainer ring. Preoaded fasteners provide an initia tight sea at ow ine pressures. At higher pressures, the ine pressure pushes up the bonnet against the gasket, compressing it further and providing a much tighter sea. Y-GLOBE VALVES By virtue of their Y-type configuration, AIL Y-Gobe Vaves have a reativey straight fow and a ower pressure drop compared to conventiona gobe vaves. When the fow stops, the disc is cosed by gravity. Seating oad and the resutant tightness are dependent on the back pressure. As the disc is internay hinged, there is no opening in the body of the vave. This ensures high integrity. Instaation AIL Swing Check Vaves are used to prevent the reversa of fow in vertica, horizonta or incined pipeines. These vaves are to be used ony for upward or horizonta fow. Pusating fows, as obtained at the outet of a reciprocating pump, woud cause disc chatter and hence ought to be avoided. AIL Cryogenic Vaves AIL Cryogenic Gate & Gobe Vaves Services that hande fuids at sub-zero temperatures present severa technica chaenges. AIL s speciayadopted, extended-bonnet gate and gobe vaves provide the right soution for such ow-temperature and cryogenic services. AIL offers a range of gate and gobe vaves (as we as check vaves) for ow temperature and cryogenic services, used in processing, storage and transportation of iquefied gases such as Ethyene, LPG, LNG, Hydrogen, Heium, Oxygen, Nitrogen and Argon. Low temperature services of up to -46 0 C are covered by ow-temperature carbon stees ike LCB and LCC materias. Cryogenic services at -196 0 C are covered by stainess stee grades ike CF8M and CF8. AIL Specia Vaves AIL Specia Vaves Live-oaded Vaves The stem packing system in a vave prevents eakage of ine fuid to the atmosphere. The effectiveness of the seaing performance of the stem/gand packing depends on severa factors such as dimensiona toerance and surface finish of the stem and packing chamber, packing materia and its resiience, and packing pressure. In a conventiona vave, packing consoidation takes pace and the packing pressure gets reduced in service, resuting in the possibiity of eakage. To restore the packing pressure and to arrest possibe eakage, the gand nut wi have to be tightened. This adjustment restores packing seaing effectiveness. In a ive-oaded arrangement, the packing pressure or the oad is maintained reativey constant as the packing consoidates during service. This is achieved by means of a set of Disc Springs or Beevie Springs that is instaed between the the gand fange and the gand stud. This creates additiona easticity in the gand oading system. The precompression oad appied on the Disc Springs ensures that the oad required for eak-tight seaing is exerted on the packing, even after reaxation or consoidation of packing. This continuous in-service sef-adjustment resuts in superior stem seaing performance, particuary in services where pressure / temperature fuctuations or cycing are frequent. Soft-seated Vaves In appications that require positive shutoff such as in chemica and petrochemica services, the AIL Soft-seated Gate Vave is a suitabe soution. PTFE seat inserts provide the necessary soft-seating to ensure positive shutoff. Low-emission Service Vaves To compy with the requirements for Cean Air Act, AIL Cast Stee Vaves have undergone extensive in-house testing, using Compressed Natura Gas (CNG) at the fu-rated pressure as a test medium, as we as Heium in accordance with ISA standards. Based on proven experience over the years, AIL has estabished appropriate design parameters and manufacturing methods to offer vaves that meet stringent fugitive emission norms as per industry practices. API 6D Through-Conduit Gate Vaves AIL offers a specia range of API 6D Through-conduit Gate Vaves for appications such as fow ines, manifods, pipeine transmission and distribution, pressure reguation and metering runs, underground storage and genera pipeine service. Vaves of Cass 300 feature gaskets of spiraywound stainess stee with graphite fier. In vaves of Cass 600 and higher, metaic ring gaskets are offered. The stem finish is 16-32 RMS, with a straightness of 0.001-24 0.005 over the ength of the pain shank. Cyindricity is controed as per AIL standards. The Stuffing Box surface finish is 180 RMS max., and its straightness is controed as per AIL standards. The diametrica cearances between the stem, gand and the stuffing box are controed to cose toerances, to ensure that emission norms are compied with.

The actuators can be operated in practicay any position or ocation, and have a provision for manua operation. The actuators come in weatherproof encosure as a standard, and in exposion-proof and such other specia encosures too. For correct seection of actuator, pease specify detais of ine pressure, differentia pressure when cosed, power suppy requirements and actuator accessories. CHAIN WHEELS Chain whees are used for the vaves ocated too far above the foor for convenient hand whee operation. Chain whees are avaiabe for a types of AIL Cast Stee Vaves and can be substituted in pace or used aong with the existing hand whee. AIL chain whees are equipped with guards or guides, not ony to keep the chain from sipping off from the whee but aso to hod the chain in cose contact with a arge portion of the circumference of the hand whee or the gear whee. LANTERN RING As mentioned earier in page 7, a antern ring is used to provide further integrity to the gand packing area in gate and gobe vaves, to prevent escape of service fuid to the atmosphere. This finds appication in stringent environment conditions or in the case of potentiay harmfu service fuids. The antern ring is provided between two sets of packing rings, with a eakoff pug that gives the option of remova of eakage, if any, from the ower packing rings. Aternativey, a seaing fuid can be introduced through the pug to prevent incidenta eakage through the ower packing rings. Lantern rings serve a usefu purpose. But, since they are a possibe source of shaft scoring, it is advisabe to restrict their usage to essentia appications. AIL Vave Accessories BYPASS ARRANGEMENT A bypass arrangement serves two purposes - first, in steam services, to warm up the ine before opening of the main vave, and secondy, in steam and other ines, to baance the pressure on both sides of the main vave wedge or disc to bring down the vave opening torque. POSITION INDICATORS Vaves can be provided with position indicators as a visibe means to indicate the open and cosed positions. Typicay, for gate vaves, the indicator is in the form of a pointer traveing aong a fixed scae. As an option, amost a AIL vaves can be furnished with bypass arrangement. The bypassconsists of a singe Outside Screw & Yoke gobe vave with a pressure / temperature rating and corrosion resistance equa to or exceeding that of the main vave. Size Chart Main vave 2 to 4 5 to 8 10 or higher Bypass vave 1 /2 3 /4 1 Bypass vave is attached to the side of the main vave with the stems of the both vaves parae and pointing upward. Where service conditions warrant arger-than-standard bypasses, it is recommended that the instaation of the bypasses be around the main vave. LOCKING DEVICES Locking devices are used to secure a handwhee in a fixed position, to prevent accidenta or unauthorized operation of a vave. The ocking arrangement typicay aows the use of chain and padock to secure the vave. 25
