ENINE CONTRO ND ENINE IMMOIISER SSTEM SSTEM OUTINE The engine control system utilizes a microcomputer and maintains overall control of the engine, transmission etc. n outline of the engine control is given here.. INPUT SINS () Engine coolant temp signal circuit The engine coolant temp. sensor detects the engine coolant temp. and has a built in thermistor with a resistance, which varies according to the engine coolant temp. The engine coolant temp. which is input into TERMIN TH of the engine control module as a control signal. () Intake air temp. signal circuit The intake air temp.sensor is installed in the air flow meter and detects the intake air temp. which is input as a control signal to TERMIN TH of the engine control module. () Vehicle speed signal circuit The vehicle speed signal is input from the S speed sensor to S ECU (w/o traction control) or S and traction control ECU (w/traction control), and are sent to the engine control module through communication control. () RPM signal circuit Canshaft position is detected by the VVT sensors and its signal is input to TERMIN VV and VV of the engine control module as a control signal. lso, engine RPM is detected by the crankshaft position sensor and is input as a control signal to TERMIN NE+. () Throttle position signal circuit The throttle position sensor detects the throttle valve opening angle as a control signal, which is input into TERMIN VT of the engine control module. (6) attery signal circuit Voltage is constantly applied to TERMIN TT of the engine control module. ith the ignition S turned on, the voltage for engine control module start up power supply is applied to TERMIN + of the engine control module via the EFI relay. The current flowing through the IN fuse flows to TERMIN IS of the engine control module. (7) Intake air volume signal circuit Intake air volume is detected by the air flow meter and the signal is input into TERMIN V of the engine control module as a control signal. (8) Stop light S signal circuit The stop light S is used to detect whether the vehicle is braking or not and the signal is input into TERMIN STP of the engine control module as a control signal. (9) Start signal circuit To confirm whether the engine is cranking, the voltage is applied to the starter motor during cranking is detected and the signal is input into TERMIN ST of the engine control module as a control signal. (0) Engine knock signal circuit Engine knocking is detected by knock sensors and the signal is input into TERMINS KNK and KNKR as a control signal.. CONTRO SSTEM * SFI system The SFI system monitors the engine condition through the signals input from each sensor (Input signals from () to (0) etc.) to the engine control module. nd the control signal is output to TERMINS #0, #0, #0, #0, #0 and #60 of the engine control module to operate the injector (Inject the fuel). The SFI system controls the fuel injection operation by the engine control module in response to the driving conditions. * ES system The ES system monitors the engine condition through the signals input the engine control module from each sensor (Input signals from () to (0) etc.). The best ignition timing is decided according to this data and the memorized data in the engine control module and the control signal is input to TERMINS IT, IT, IT, IT, IT, and IT6. This signal contols the igniter to provide the best ignition timing for the driving conditions. * CIS The CIS includes a valve in the bulkhaed separating the surge tank into two parts. This valve is opened or closed according to the driving conditions to control the intake manifold length in three stages, for increased engine output in all ranges from low to high speeds, when idling. 66
. DINOSIS SSTEM ith the diagnosis system, when there is a malfunctioin in the engine control module signal system, the malfunctioning system is recorded in the memory. The malfunctioning system can be found by reading the code disaplayed by the check engine warning light.. FI SFE SSTEM ith the malfunction has occurred in any system, if there is a possibility of engine trouble being caused by continued control based on the signals from that system, the fail safe system either controls the system by using data (Startard values) recorded in the engine control module memory or else stops the engine.
