On occasion, damage can occur during the transportation of your new Ductless/HEPA Fume Hood. You should inspect your unit for damage that may have been caused and report it immediately to your transportation company. The Ductless/HEPA Fume Hood is shipped to your facility strapped onto a skid. Remove the protective plastic and/or cardboard from the exterior of the unit, and carefully cut the nylon strapping with a sharp knife or scissors. Remove all pieces from the skid and place near installation area. All shipments are F.O.B. Design Filtration Microzone. All claims for damage due to shipping should be filed with the carrier. Design Filtration Microzone and its dealers are not responsible for shipping damages. Your Ductless/HEPA Fume Hood has been factory tested and set for appropriate airflows, however all HEPA filtered equipment should be certified by a qualified technician prior to use. 2. EXT HEPA/CARBON FUME HOOD Installation and Operations Manual Revision: 28-Jun-18 Page 7 of 12 5. PRE-FILTER MAINTENANCE Check your pre-filters on a monthly basis and change as necessary. To change your pre-filters leave your hood running. Always wear gloves when changing pre-filters. Simply pull the release levers on either side of the interior baffle. This will lower the top portion of the baffle and expose the pre-filter. While keeping one hand under the pre-filter rotate the plastic retaining buttons. Gently grasp the pre-filter and place in garbage bag. Do not remove the pre-filter from the hood before placing in plastic garbage bag. Make sure garbage bag is tied up before removing from hood. Put the new pre-filter in place; please be sure the airflow arrow is facing up. Move baffle back into place making sure the release levers are secured to the side of the hood. WARNING: ALWAYS WEAR GLOVES WHEN CHANGING PRE-FILTER. LEAVE UNIT RUNNING. 6. CARBON FILTER Hoods equipped with carbon filters should only be used for the odour removal of the chemicals that they were originally intended for. Consult factory for correct type and use. A label on the front panel will indicate which MM pack is installed. Typically carbon filters are changed annually, but if the unit shows no signs of odour then Design Filtration Microzone does offer a free analyzing service to calculate the expected life cycle of the replacement filter. This assumes that the frequency and volumes of chemicals do not change during the following time frame. When you order a new filter(s), you can request that we send you a sample bag complete with a label attached. Opening the access door on the old filter, pour 6-8 oz s (170-227grams) of used carbon into the bag and seal, complete the following on the sticker and return to address on the label. (1) Client Name (2) Type of media (3) Type of unit and serial number (4) Equipment location (5) Finally, the date sample was taken. Based on weight analysis our engineers will tell you remaining life in the media. Typically, the carbon will hold up to 30% of its own weight in chemicals. Certification companies do offer to perform the change outs for you. WARNING: CARBON FILTERS HAVE LIMITED ADSORPTION CAPACITY. IF YOU DETECT ANY ODOUR OR IRRITATION, STOP USING THE HOOD. THE AFFECTED AREA SHOULD BE VACATED AND VENTILATED BEFORE CHANGING THE CARBON FILTERS. REDUCE YOUR TIME FRAME WHEN CHANGING NEXT SET OF FILTERS TO ENSURE FILTER(S) ARE NOT LOADED.

EXT HEPA/CARBON FUME HOOD Installation and Operations Manual Revision: 28-Jun-18 Page 8 of 12 7. CHANGING CARBON FILTERS Always disconnect unit from power supply prior to changing carbon filters. Carefully lower front access panel to reveal interior compartment. Remove the screws from the carbon filter housing, and remove panel to reveal carbon filters. Slide carbon filters out and replace. Replace panel and tighten, do not over tighten. See Figure 7.1. Check with local government agencies for disposal of used filters. Figure 7.1 8. CHANGING THE FLUORESCENT LIGHT Wear gloves when changing the fluorescent light. Dispose of tube in plastic bag. The light is located at the front of the hood. Gently reach in and change as you would a normal fluorescent tube. 9. SPEED CONTROL The speed control should only be adjusted by a qualified service technician. Adjusting the airflow will affect the operation of your hood. Remove front snap cap located on the front panel to access the speed control. Use a flat headed screwdriver to adjust speed, turning clockwise to increase the speed. After adjustment of the speed control, the airflow should be checked to ensure 70fpm 80fpm using calibrated test equipment. Refer to IES standard IES -R P-C C -002.2. 10. CHANGING MOTOR Always disconnect unit from power supply prior to changing the motor. Loosen the screws located on the hinges at the front panel, and remove front panel from hood. Remove acorn nuts located on the top of your Ductless/HEPA Fume Hood. Remove support brackets. Using a 5/8 socket lower and remove the filter housing assembly. Unscrew polypropylene saddle mount and change motor.
