. COTRUCTIO The K bearing uni is a combinaion of a radial ball bearing, seal, and a housing of high-grade cas iron or pressed seel, which comes in various shapes. The ouer surface of he bearing and he inernal surface of he housing are spherical, so ha he uni is self-aligning. The inside consrucion of he ball bearing for he uni is such ha seel balls and reainers of he same ype as in series 6 and 63 of he deep groove ball bearing are used. duplex seal consising of a combinaion of an oil-proof synheic rubber seal and 78 Mainenance free bearing uni all end se screw Fig.. a slinger is provided on boh sides. Depending on he ype, he following mehods of fiing o he shaf are employed: () The inner ring is fasened ono he shaf in wo places by se screws. () The inner ring has a apered bore and is fied o he shaf by means of an adaper. (3) In he eccenric locking collar sysem he inns ring is fasened o he shaf by means of eccenrics grooves provided a he side of he inner ring and on he collar. MITECE FREE TYPE The K Mainenance free bearing uni conains a high-grade lihium-based grease, good for use over a long period, which is ideally suied o sealed-ype bearing. lso provided is an excellen sealing device, which prevens any leakage of grease or peneraion of dus and waer from ouside. I is designed so ha he roaion of he shaf causes he sealed-in grease o circulae hrough he inside space, effecively providing maximum lubricaion. The lubricaion effec is mainained over a long period wih no need for replenishmen of grease. To suarize he advanages of he K mainenance free bearing uni: () s an adequae amoun of good qualiy grease is sealed in a he ime of manufacure, here is no need for replenishmen. This means savings in erms of ime and mainenance coss. () ince here is no need for any regreasing faciliies, such as piping, a more compac design is possible. (3) The sealed-in design eliminaes he possibiliy of grease leakage, which could lead o sained producs.. REURICTE TYPE The K relubricaable ype bearing uni has an advanage over oher similar, unis being so designed as o permi regreasing even in he case of misalignmen of o he righ or lef. The hole hrough which he grease fiing is mouned usually causes srucural weakening of he housing. owever, as a resul of exensive esing, in he K bearing uni he hole is posiioned so as o minimize his adverse effec. In addiion, he regreasing groove has been designed o minimize weakening of he housing. While he K mainenance free ype bearing uni is saisfacory for use under normal operaing condiions in-doors, in he following circumsances i is necessary o use he relubricaable ype bearing uni: () Cases where he emperaure of he bearing rises above 00 C, F: *-ormal emperaure of up o 00 C, 39 F hea-resisan bearing unis. () Cases where here is excessive dus, bu space does no permi using a bearing uni wih a cover. (3) Cases where he bearing uni is consanly exposed o splashes of waer or any oher liquid, bu space does no permi using a bearing uni wih a cover. (4) Cases in which he humidiy is very high, and he machine in which he bearing uni is used is run only inermienly. (5) Cases involving a heavy load of which he Cr/Pr value is abou 0 or below, and he speed is 0 min or below, or he movemen is oscillaory. (6) Cases where he of revoluions is relaively high and he noise problem has o be considered; for example, when he bearing is used wih he fan of an air condiioner..3 PECI EIG FETURE.3. TDRD ERIG UIT The sealing device of he ball bearing for he K bearing uni is a combinaion of a hea-resisan and oil-proof synheic rubber seal and a slinger of an exclusive design. The seal, which is fixed in he ouer ring, is seel-reinforced, and is lip, in conac wih he inner ring, is designed o minimize fricional orque. The slinger is fixed o he inner ring of he bearing wih which i roaes. There is a small clearance beween is periphery and he ouer ring. There are riangular prorusions on he ouside face of he slinger and, as he bearing roaes, hese prorusions on he slinger creae a flow of air ouward from he bearing. In his way, he slinger acs as a fan which-keeps dus and waer away from he bearing. These wo ypes of seals on boh sides of he bearing preven grease leakage, and foreign maer is prevened from enering he bearing from ouside. Fig.. 79

ERIG UIT WIT COVER The K bearing uni wih a cover consiss of a sandard bearing uni and an ouside covering for exra proecion agains dus. pecial consideraion has been given o is design wih respec o dusproofing. ealing devices are provided in boh he bearing and he housing, so ha unis of his ype operae saisfacorily even in such adverse environmens as flour mills, seel mills, foundries, galvanizing plans and chemical plans, where excessive dus is produced and/or liquids are used. They are also eminenly suiable for oudoor environmens where dus and rain are ineviable, and in heavy indusrial machinery such as consrucion and ransporaion equipmen. The rubber seal of he cover conacs wih he shaf by is wo lips, as shown in Fig.. and.3. y filling he groove beween he wo lips wih grease, an excellen sealing effec is obained and, a he same ime, he conacing porions of he lips are lubricaed. Furhermore, he groove is so designed ha when he shaf is inclined he rubber seal can move in he radial direcion. When bearing unis are exposed o splashes of waer raher han o dus, a drain hole (5 o 8, 0. o 0.3 es in diameer)is provided a he boom of he cover, and grease should be applied o he side of he bearing iself insead of ino he cover. 80 Fig..
