President s Signals January 2017 December Birthdays Safe, Healthy and Fun New Year! That s our goal for 2017. First and foremost on the agenda is a sincere and grateful thanks to our Past President and our Past Treasurer, Bob and Elisha Darcey. They held the reins during a most troubled year. Our prayers throughout the year were not lost and they are a long way from being out of the woods, so let s take a moment and pray once more for Bob s recovery and Elisha s stamina to see him through. May God be with them and our other members that have suffered throughout the year. We have lots of things already planned for the year. Our first meeting is a Gumbo meeting at Gordon and Carol Willhoft s home in Chalmette. The Head Chef is Craig Sansoni and I understand his gumbo is the best. Already in the box is a couple of day cruises, a post LEGENDS Car Show party, at Charlie and Melody Horton s home - look for a caravan to Diamondhead, a 5 day cruise to Charleston, SC and the Baton Rouge Corvette Club has accepted our invitation to enjoy the Christmas Lights either at Celebration in the Oaks or Lafreniere Park. As information is disseminated via many avenues of social media, our website, email, Facebook and WOM, some of our regular Friday meetings will be replaced by these activities. We have a few members that are not connected and they will be notified of all activities by phone or snail mail. Our LEGENDS Car Show is on March 4 th. As usual we need everyone to help by getting at least one $50.00 sponsor, one door prize and one silent auction item. There are also $100, $250, and $500 sponsorships available if you know someone that wants to advertise their company or club. And of course, everyone should register their Corvette. Forms are available on the web site, www.crescentcitycorvetteclub.com Our theme for 2017 is Enjoy your Corvette, so Let s Do It Bret LeBriton Jan 6 Darlene St. Germain Jan 7 Felix Famularo Jan 9 Pat Branch Jan 13 Charles Coe Jan 14 Mary Ann Murphy Jan 9 Jimmie Leeds Jan 20 Kathy Culbertson Jan 24 Genie Matthews Jan 28 Rhonda Elder Jan 29 Greg Elder Jan 39 New Members! As I prepared this newsletter my mind was flooded with memories of the past two years. As I stepped into the position I was not sure how things would work out. Let s face it, Felix is a hard act to follow. With the help of a great slate of officers and board members we moved forward. We were able to adapt to changing realities with our first ever Car Show rescheduled due to rain. We marched on. 2015 was a pretty good year. 2016 started with promise, but just a couple of weeks in I began what was to be the first of 14 hospitalizations with the fusion of cevical and thorasic vertebrea followed by kidney cancer (2 nd time) and complete kidney failure. I am now dependent on kidney dialysis to keep breathing. I am on the machine four times a week for four hours at a time. It is unbelievably inconvenient, but it beats the alternative. Since the fusion surgery it has become painfully clear that I can no longer drive the Corvette safely and comfortably. Getting in & out is a painful experience and there is no comfortable seating position allows me to see items above, like traffic lights. The car has been sold to a gentleman from Orlando, FL. By the way, the new owner also has a 2013 Hennessy! I have replaced it with a german coupe that has much easier access and is more comfortable in general. I still love the Corvette and the Crescent City family and will rremain a member for as long as I can. I will also continue publishing this newslette for the forseeable future however long, or short that will be depends on my health. Mostly I want to express my thanks for your prayers and support! Very truly yours, Bob Darcey Immediate Past President
