Fire Protection Div. Models,77,6 MO\M, MO\RC, MO\EL General description and operation modes These hydraulically or electrically actuated monitor valves are designed for local, remote controlled and oscillating monitors. The basic control valve type used for these monitor systems is a direct-sealing elastomeric diaphragm, hydraulically operated control valve engineered specifically for fire protection systems. In the standby position, the monitor valve is held closed by the upstream water pressure, trapped in the valve's control chamber. The water pressure enters the control chamber through a Y-type strainer [], a check valve [], a restrictor [] and a -way ball valve []. Under fire conditions, the monitor valves will open following these circumstances: MO\M - The -way ball valve [] is manually opened. MO\RC (Option A) - A remote -way ball valve [6] or a local -way ball valve [] is manually opened. MO\RC (Option B - with relay valve) - A remote -way ball valve [] or a local -way ball valve [] is manually opened. MO\EL - A F&G panel energizes the / way N.O. solenoid [7] (or de-energizes the coil of a continuously energized ED 00% normally closed solenoid for SIL - rated systems) When opened, water begin to drain from the monitor valve s control chamber. The valve opens instantly, allowing water to flow into the pipeline and through the monitor and over the protected area. Adding a relay valve [] (see Option B - MO\RC) allows remote hydraulic actuation even for long pipelines or changing topography. A relay valve [] is also added for large diameter electrically actuated monitor valves (see Electrically Actuated - 6" and larger). Resetting, maintenance and periodic testing instructions must be followed as described in detail in the relevant Dorot model's IOM (Installation, Operation & Maintenance) manual. The system s operating modes in the set, actuated and closed position are shown in the relevant model s IOM. ABS fire test applicable to model 6 6 Specification for engineers The monitor valve shall be an electrically or hydraulically actuated, direct elastomeric diaphragm-seal, single chamber globe/ weir type. The valve shall consist of three major components: the body, cover and the diaphragm assembly. The diaphragm shall be the only moving part. The diaphragm forms a sealed control chamber in the upper portion of the valve, separating operating pressure from line pressure. Packing glands stuffing boxes and dynamic o-ring seals are not permitted and there shall be no shafts, discs, bearings or pistons operating the main valve. No hourglass shaped disc retainers shall be permitted and no V-type, U-type or other slotted type disc guides shall be used. The valve shall contain a fabric reinforced rubber diaphragm, elastic & resilient through its entire surface without vulcanized radial discs and/or reinforcements. The diaphragm shall not be guided by any shafts or bearings and shall not be in close contact with other valve parts except for its sealing surface. Maintenance, disassembly and reassembly of all the valve s components shall be made possible on site and in-line, without the need to remove the valve from the line. Standard material valves such as Ductile Iron (ASTM A-6 6--) and Cast Steel (WCB A-6) should be coated with high-built fusion-bonded epoxy (FBE) and a UV protective topcoat conforming to EN9 C & C high & very high corrosivity protection grades. Naval quality/very high corrosivity protection grade conforming to EN9 CM is available upon request. Other coating standards such as NORSOK or ANSI/NACE as well as coatings for special material valves such as austenitic Stainless Steel (CFM/ASTM A-6 ) and Nickel Aluminum Bronze (ASTM B-) can be supplied upon request. The valve should be approved by Lloyd s and ABS for fire protection service.
