TRAC-Station BT Installation Instructions P/N 10103024P1 November 2011 2011 UTC Fire & Security. All rights reserved. Introduction This is the Supra TRAC-Station BT Installation Instructions. Read these instructions and the lockset installation instructions before installing TRAC-Station BT. If you do not mount TRAC-Station BT accurately, it will not function properly. Supra is not responsible for replacing the TRAC-Station BT if it is damaged or destroyed upon removal. Installation supplies provided Installation instructions Drill template Electronics enclosure with lid Mounting plate (interior) Exterior TRAC-Station BT plate Eight AA batteries Two sets of four #8 flat head screws (Two different screw lengths for the mounting plate) One electrified lockset (no lock core) Four #8 5/16 in. (8 mm) pan head screws and lock washers (for electronics enclosure) Six #4 1/2 in. (13 mm) flat head screws Plastic weather cover assembly CAUTION: The electronics in this package are electrostatic sensitive devices. Before you install the unit, discharge or use a grounding belt. Installation tools required Drill Drill bits File Phillips screwdriver Level or punch Pen or pencil Hardware not provided When a lockset is provided with the TRAC-Station BT, the lockset will not include a lock core. If you install the TRAC-Station BT into a door that has a noncylindrical lock (for example, a mortise lock), you will need additional hardware. Consult a locksmith for the parts you need for the conversion. Figure 1. Standard TRAC-Station BT installation Installation notes The TRAC-Station BT is designed to be installed above, below, or to the side of the lockset (Figure 1). We recommend 6 in. (15 cm) above the lockset, or as far above the lockset as needed to be out of the way of door hardware. To meet ADA requirements, the lockset must be no higher than 48 in. (120 cm) from the ground to center of the device. If you install the TRAC-Station BT in a wood door, align it horizontally with the lockset and latch (Figure 2). When drilling, drill the latch set hole through the backset hole and into the door. You will use this hole to thread the wiring from the lockset to the TRAC-Station BT. Align the TRAC-Station BT drill template (PN: 43336) so that the 5/8 in. (16 mm) wire feed hole intersects with the horizontal hole. Use this channel to feed the wire from the lockset to the TRAC-Station BT. When you install the lockset, allow room for expansion in hot weather. Figure 2. TRAC-Station BT wood door installation
2 Installation To install the TRAC-Station BT: 1. Remove the lid from the electronics enclosure and unplug the four-prong connector. 2. Using the drill template, mark the four mounting holes and the one center wire feed hole on the exterior side of the door. Drill the four mounting holes 9/16 in. (14 mm) and the center wire feed hole 5/8 in. (16 mm) through the door. Note: If you are drilling a metal door, be sure to file the rough edges of the drill holes or use a countersink drill. 3. Remove the existing lockset and install the new lockset using the instructions provided by the manufacturer. Thread the two-wire plug from the lockset through the door and through to the interior using the 5/8 in. (16 mm) wire feed hole. 4. Feed the four-wire plug from the exterior TRAC- Station BT plate through the wire feed hole, and secure the interior mounting plate to the exterior TRAC-Station BT plate (Figure 3). Insert and tighten screws through the interior plate using the recommended screw lengths (Table 1). Note: If the screw does not fully secure the plates to the door when tightened, use a shorter screw. Do not overtighten the long screw. Table 1. Recommended screw length Door thickness Screw length 1.25 to 2.00 in. (32 to 49 mm) 1.00 in. (25 mm) 2.00 to 2.65 in. (50 to 67 mm) 1.75 in. (44 mm) 2.75 to 3.50 in. (68 to 85 mm) 2.50 in. (64 mm) 3.50 to 4.00 in. (85 to 98 mm) 3.00 in. (76 mm) 5. Thread the four-wire plug from the exterior TRAC-Station BT plate, and the two-wire plug from the lockset through the wire feed hole in the electronics enclosure (Figure 4 on page 3). You will attach the wires after securing the enclosure. 6. Use the four #8 5/16 in. (8 mm) pan head screws and lock washers to attach the electronics enclosure to the interior mounting plate. Insert and tighten the screws and lock washers securely. 7. Attach the four-wire plug to the four-wire connector. Snip off the two-wire plug and terminate the two lockset wires on the positive and negative DC output terminals. Polarity is not important when terminating the lockset wires. Figure 3. Other wiring options The TRAC-Station BT is designed to interface with a variety of electronic devices. For 12-volt applications, all of the DIP switches need to be closed. For 24-volt applications, all of the DIP switches need to be open. The first two terminals on the circuit board are the input power source. Correct polarity is very important for the TRAC-Station BT to function accurately when wiring for a DC application. The next two terminals marked + and DC output are designated for the output power source. Negative power input must be isolated from negative output. Failure to do so will result in damage to the unit. When wiring, do not short the transformer. Wire the transformer with caution since it is not fuse-protected. The last three terminals are the dry contacts you can use to shunt an alarm or as a trigger to activate a relay or other low voltage device. In order to shunt the alarm circuit when entering a door, wire the TRAC-Station BT dry contacts in parallel at the switch on the field side of the alarm zone. This will ensure the resistor is in the circuit. 3 Figure 4. Electronics enclosure 1 2 3 4 OPEN - INPUT PWR + - DC OUTPUT + NC-RED COM NO-GRN
4 Testing and completing the installation 1. Once the lock is installed, perform an Install function with a valid TRACcess ekey. Refer to the TRACcess ekey user instructions for step by step operation. 2. Test the lock operation using the TRACcess ekey. Refer to the TRACcess ekey user instructions for step by step operation. Test the lock first with the door open and then with the door shut to ensure the lock strike catches the door frame. When you test the lock with your key, the LED at the top of the interface will flash green, indicating the door may be opened. If the TRAC-Station BT is programmed for TIMED mode, the light will remain flashing for a preprogrammed period of time, during which the door may be opened. If the TRAC-Station BT is programmed for LATCHED mode, once the light flashes green, the door may be opened until the TRAC-Station BT is reset. If the TRAC-Station BT is programmed for LATCHED mode, be sure to reset the lock. 3. Once you have tested the lock, place the lid on the back of the electronics enclosure and position the logo directly over the battery pack. Insert the provided six #4 1/2 in. (13mm) flat head screws into the predrilled holes. Hand-tighten the upper right corner screw and continue hand-tightening the remaining screws in a clockwise order. Do not overtighten the screws, as doing so may damage the electronics enclosure and prevent the lid from being securely fastened. 4. Install the plastic weather cover. 5. Record the serial number and installation location. Figure 5. Wiring diagram for continuous unlock option Continuous unlock option (Optional) There is an option in TRAC-Station BT in latched mode to energize the lockset to unlock for long periods of time. Place an 18 AWG jumper between the DC input + and the common relay of the dry contacts (Figure 5). Connect the lockset between DC input + or input - and the normally open relay. When a DisplayKEY or ekey access the TRAC-Station BT, the lockset will energize and be held until the key is used again to relock the lockset. DC output is not used in this application. Battery removal/disposal This product contains eight AA batteries. To remove the batteries, do the following: 1. Remove the lid from the electronics enclosure. 2. Pull the batteries out of the slots.
