D. INSTALL STRIKE TO FRAME 1. Place strike over the drilled holes, and attach it to the jamb or mullion with the supplied screws. 2. If installing with a vertical rod device for double doors, and additional Double Door Strike must be used in place of the regular strike provided. STOP LINE Jamb Strike Site Door LC of Device E. IF CYLINDER IS INCLUDED WITH THE DEVICE 1. Drill one 1-3/16" diameter thru hole for the cylinder/bracket plate. 2. Insert cylinder and cylinder collar from outside of door. 3. Place bracket plate on inside of face of the door. 4. Put two cylinder mounting screws through the bracket plate and into the cylinder. 5. Cut the cylinder mounting screws and tailpiece to the required door thickness at break-off points, then fasten screws. INSTALL OUTSIDE TRIM Mark and drill holes for the outside trim (see trim instructions). E. INSTALL DEVICE BODY 1. Remove chassis cover from latch assembly and end cap from end cap bracket. 2. Place the device horizontally over the drilled holes and attach with the supplied mounting screws. Bolt device chassis to trim with sexbolts (if required). 3. Make sure cylinder or trim actuator shaft (tailpiece) can insert into device cam concentrically (see device cam at right). 4. Install end cap bracket on device, then screw to door. 5. Mark mounting holes through End Cap Bracket after device is level A Latch Assembly NOTE: The Device bar has 3 different lengths; Standard 3' Door Device = Approx 33" Standard 3.5' Door Device = Approx 40" Standard 4' Door Device = Approx 44" The bar lengths of devices are pre-cut for 36", 42" and 48" wide door, no additional cutting is necessary. If narrower door installation is needed, cut device at the A location, to door width minus 4" to fit properly. H. INSTALL COVERS 1. Test push bar operation before installing covers: a. No Trim: Latch bolt is retracted by push bar inside. b. With Trim: Latch bolt is retracted by push bar inside, key or lever/knob outside. c. Dogging: See dogging description and chart below. 2. Make sure and secure latch bolt engagement. Adjust strike if required. 3. Install chassis cover on chassis. 4. Install end cap. Dogging Wrench (Allen Key) Dogging: Depress push bar, Insert dogging wrench and turn clockwise 35 degrees. Depress push bar The push bar will remain depressed and the latch will remain retracted Note: For increasing the life of this device, dogging device during high traffic period of the day (Panic device only). Release Dogging: Depress push bar, Insert dogging wrench and turn counter-clockwise 35 degrees. Depress push bar The push bar will return to up position and the latch will project to lock the door. STEP 1: PREPARE DOOR 1. Mark position of holes on the door per template (see figure 1). 2. Drill all holes marked on the door for the device chassis and top and bottom latch mounting brackets. 3. Mortise hole for outside trim is required. NOTE; Any hole drilled from the outside, first needs a pilot hole drilled from the inside to ensure good alignment. Mark Backset 2-7/16 JAMB 2-5/16" 3-7/32" Prepare door for your specific device per supplied template. INSIDE FACE OF DOOR Surface of the door must be flush. Clear away any raised jutting to allow the exit device to rest on flat surface of the door. STEP 2: INSTALL BRACKETS, DEVICE & TRIM 1. Remove chassis cover from chassis assembly and end cap from end cap bracket. 2. Cut the length if required. For user information; This model device has three different lengths: For use on 3' wide door, device = 33" For use on 3.5' wide door, device = 40" For use on 4' wide door, device = 44" a. The device length is pre-cut for use on 36", 42" or 48" wide doors, no additional cutting is necessary. If narrow door installation is required, cut device at section A to door width minus 2" for proper fit. b. Remove device from door, remove end cap and end cap bracket and cut where required. NOTE: Device must be cut flat with all burrs removed for end cap to fit properly. 3. Mount device horizontally via the drilled holes and secure with supplied mounting hardware. Attach device to trim or sexbolt. 4. Check that the trim actuator shaft fully inserts into the device cam (refer to view B ). 5. Install end cap bracket to device, level device and mark then drill the mounting holes. Attach to door with hardware supplied. Attach end cap. 6. Install mounting brackets to top and bottom of door. STEP 3: INSTALL BOTTOM ROD AND BOTTOM STRIKE 1. Mount the bottom latch assembly into the mounting bracket (see figure 3). 2. Screw the threaded end of the bottom rod onto the bottom latch assembly (see figure 4). Threaded end of Bottom rod Figure 3 Figure 4 3. Using screw supplied, attach and tighten the bottom rod to the chassis at the location indicated by the arrow in figure 5. NOTE: If the hole on the bottom shaft connector does not align with the mounting hole in the chassis, adjust the length by turning the rod in or out of the latch assembly. 4. Install bottom strike into finished floor or threshold, and be sure to align center line of bottom latch with the centerline of the bottom strike (see figure 6) LC 1/4 7/8 2-3/32 2-1/4 Figure 6 Figure 5 5. Depress and release push bar to confirm proper installation. 5-1 Make sure bottom latch can be retracted and flush with the edge of the door when push bar is depressed. 5-2 Check bottom latch bolt has 19/32" (15mm) throw min. when push bar is released. STEP 4: INSTALL TOP ROD AND TOP STRIKE 1. Mount the top latch assembly into the mounting bracket (see figure 7). 2. Screw the threaded end of the top rod onto the top latch assembly completely (see figure 8). Figure 7 Threaded end of top rod Figure 8 3. Measure and cut the length of the top rod. The length of the top rod is measured to the edge of the rod connector (see figure 9) which will be attached to the chassis. 4. Insert the rod connector into the non-threaded end of the top rod and secure in place by tightening the locking screw (see figure 10). 5. With the top rod connector installed, attach the top rod to the chassis at the location indicated by the arrow (see figure 11). 6. Mark and drill mounting holes on the jamb for the top strike per the strike template (see figure 12). Fasten the top strike to the jamb with the screws supplied (see figure 13). Figure 12 Figure 13 NOTE: Attach third screw last after strike has been properly aligned, STEP 5: TEST OPERATION 1. Depress the push bar. The top and bottom latches should be held retracted. The bottom latch should also clear the floor and the bottom strike. Door can now be opened. 2. Release push bar, both the top latch bolt and the bottom latch bolt should be fully extended. 3. Check device operation by depressing and releasing push bar several times to assure final installation is correct. 4. Repeat device operation by opening and closing door several times using the outside trim to make sure all installations have no problems. 5. Repeat adjustment procedure if either the top latch bolt is not held retracted, or bottom latch bolt does not clear floor and bottom strike. STEP 6: INSTALL COVERS 1. Before installing covers, check and secure top and bottom latch bolts engagement. Adjust strikes if necessary. 2. Outside of Door RHR Inside of Door LHR NOTE: To extend the life of this device, it is recommended to activate the dogging feature during high traffic periods of the day. Dogging: Insert dogging wrench and turn clockwise 15 degrees. Dogging Wrench Release Dogging: Insert dogging wrench and turn counter-clockwise 15 degrees. A. PREPARE DOOR 1. Mark centerline of device by drawing a line across the door. 2. Mark a backset line and 4 thru holes for device chassis shown on the template provided. 3. Prepare the door cut-outs by using the template provided. Figure 1-1 2-7/16" INSIDE FACE OF DOOR Drill holes and cut-outs on the Device side ONLY LC of Device Mark backset from edge of door See Trim Installation Instructions for outside face of door preparation. 39-3/4 LC of Device The centerline of the device must be 40" above the finished floor. Bottom Door gap MUST be 1/4. 4. Cut out the top edge and bottom edge of the door, then weld two 5mm thick mounting plates on both edges for Top and Bottom Latch Assemblies (figure 1-2). 5. B. ASSEMBLE RODS AND LATCHES 1. Screw bottom rod into bottom latch assembly (figure 2-1). 2. Assemble top rod: 2-1 Connect short top rod to long top rod using rod connector (figure 2-1). 2-2 Measure and cut the length of the top rod if it is too long. Screw top rod assembly into top latch assembly (figure 2-4). C. MOUNT LATCH ASSEMBLIES 1. Attach latch mounting brackets to top and bottom latch assemblies 2. Insert top latch assembly into top of the door and fasten to the mounting plates with the screws provided (figure 3-1). 3. Insert bottom latch assembly into bottom of the door and fasten to the mounting plates with the screws provided (figure 3-2). Place the rod length locator through the cut-outs on the inside face of the door. Hook a shaft connector with the small stud on the locator. When the shaft connector is raised to as level as possible, the holes C or D in the locator should align with the cut-outs A or B (figure 4-1). 2. If the C or D holes in the locator do not align with their respective cut-out, then the vertical rod length is incorrect and must be adjusted. 3. Adjustment procedure: Adjust the length of the two vertical rods by hand through the cut-outs (figure 4-2). Shorten or lengthen the rods by turning into or out of the latch assemblies (figure 4-3) until the holes of the shaft connectors are in the proper position as determined by the latch length locator (pg. 5, figure 4-1). Figure 4-2 Figure 4-3 E. INSTALL LATCH ACTUATOR SHAFTS 1. Attach one Latch Actuated Shaft to the top and bottom shaft connectors (figure 5) with screws supplied. 2. Make sure both top and bottom latch actuated shafts are parallel. F. INSTALL DEVICE AND TRIM (if applicable) 1. Remove device chassis cover from the chassis assembly and the end cap from the end cap bracket. 2. Position the device on the door and insert latch actuated shafts into the slots marked X and Y (figure 6-1). Fasten in place with screws supplied. 3. Cut the length if required: a. The device length is pre-cut for use on 36", 42" or 48" wide doors, no additional cutting is necessary. If narrow door installation is required, cut device at section A to door width minus 2" for proper fit. b. Remove device from door, remove end cap and end cap bracket and cut where required. NOTE: Device must be cut flat with all burrs removed for end cap to fit properly. 4. Mount device horizontally via the drilled holes and secure with supplied mounting hardware. Attach device to trim or sexbolt (if applicable). 5. Install end cap bracket to device and attach to door with hardware supplied. Attach end cap. A Figure 6-2 G. TEST OPERATION AND HANG DOOR. 1. Depress push bar. Top latch bolt should be retracted as shown (figure 7-1) and bottom latch clears floor and bottom strike (figure 7-2). BOTTOM LATCH BOLT (Clears floor and strike). 2. Release push bar, Make sure both top and bottom latch bolts are FULLY extended 3. Check top latch bolt for deadlocking function. Deadlock Depress the deadlock plate by hand. Hang door (with device installed) and repeat operation check with outside lever. 6. redo rod length adjustment if either top latch bolt is not held retracted or if the bottom latch bolt does not clear the floor and bottom strike. H. INSTALL TOP STRIKE 1. Prepare frame: a. Cut out a square on the frame for the top strike (figure 8-1). b. Weld two 3mm thick mounting plates on the frame (figure 8-2). c. Insert Anti-Tamper Switch where shown. END CAP BRACKET DEVICE COVER END CAP Insert the S6000-ATS Assy. into the device. Slide the End Cap over the End Cap Bracket. Position the S6000-ATS Assy so the switch arm makes contact and is activated by the inside surface of the End Cap. Hold the S6000-ATS Assy. in place as you slide out the End Cap. Tighten the set screws on the S6000-ATS to lock it in place. Switch Arm Once S6000-ATS Switch Assembly is properly located, wire the switch and re-install the Device Cover and End Cap.
