Pulltarps Tower Installation Instructions 22 1. Use an overhead crane to position the tower assembly on the chassis. Note: The base assembly (#20) can be separated from the stage 1 extension (#21), to reduce the weight if an overhead crane is not available. Slide the stage 1 extension (#21) upward out of the base assembly (#20) 21 20 Position the base assembly (#20) on top of the frame rails and at least 3 behind the cab. Vehicles with tilt frames require a minimum of 6 clearance between the cab and the tilt frame. Secure the base assembly in place. Generic U bolts, nuts, and washers are provided in the kit. Some fabrication may be required for your vehicle. Reassemble base assembly (#20), stage 1 extension (#21). 2. Install the hydraulic cylinder into the tower assembly using the two 1 diameter bolts.(#7, #11) 18 14 9 17 9 23 13 7 24 15 12 11 3. Attach the pump mount plate to the hydraulic power unit. 2
4. Attach the hydraulic power unit assembly to the single stage base assembly by bolting the pump mount plate to the base assembly. 5. Attach the hoses to the pump unit and then the cylinder as pictured. Connect the short (lower hose) to port A and the long (upper hose) to port B. 6. Fill pump reservoir with Dextron ATF or 32 Grade Hydraulic oil (not supplied) to the base of the filler cap. 3
Mounting the housing 7. Bolt the tower housing brace, (#4) to the stage 1 extension using the 3/8 x 1 bolts, flat washer & 3/8 nyloc nuts. 8. Bolt tower housing to top of tower per the drawing using the 3/8 x 1 bolts, flat washers & 3/8 nyloc nuts. Connecting the power to the pump 9. Connect the red / black or orange / black 6 gauge power supply wire to the solenoid terminal as shown. Connect the other end of the red and black wire to the battery. See step 11. 10. Connect the red and black 6 gauge wire to the positive (+) battery post. 11. Connect the solid black 6 guage wire to the negative (-) battery post. See illustration. Note: do not use a circuit breaker on these wires. 4
12. Connect the white wire with the small loop connector from the switch box to the solenoid as shown. 13. Crimp one spade connector to each of the wires on the control valves as shown. Connect the green and black wires from the switch box to the yellow wires on the control values as shown. 14. Attach wires to the tower base unit using the clamp and nut provided. See photo. Locate switch box in a convenient area near the tower. Note: Make sure that all hoses and wires are secured and away from moving parts and pinch points. Use the clamps and wire ties provided. 5
15A. With manual switch Connecting the power to the tarp motor. Connect to motor 15B. With remote control 12V only 15. Connect the red/black or orange/black side of the 6 gauge motor power wire to the (+) terminal as shown. Connect the solid black side of the 6 gauge motor power wire to the (-) terminal as shown. 16. Connect the motor power wire to the motor and install the motor cover Bolt clamps to housing Bolt clamps to tower 17. Fasten the power motor wire to the tower and housing. Place the wire clamps on the power wire. Attach the clamps to the tower by bolting them to the studs provided and to the housing using the holes provided. 6
Note: Leave a loop of wire below the housing to allow the tower to be raised. Loop Connecting the power to the battery 18. Connect the red/black or orange/black side of the 6 gauge motor power wire to the (+) terminal as shown. Connect the solid black side of the 6 gauge motor power wire to the (-) terminal as shown. 18A. With manual switch 18B. With remote control 12V only Connect to battery Connect to battery 19. Connect one post to the 40 Amp breaker to the #10 loop on the other end of the red/black or orange/ black side 6 gauge wire. Connect the solid black 6 wire to the negative (-) battery post. On 24V systems, disgard the breaker and use the 80 amp inline fuse supplied. 20. Connect the short 6 gauge wire with the #10 loop to the open breaker terminal. Connect large terminal end to the positive (+) battery post. 21. Cycle the tower up and down completely a few times to purge all the air out of the system. Note: Make sure the fluid level in the pump reservoir does not go below half way when the towers is fully extended. 7

Motor check out procedure: 1. Remove leads from motor & attach volt meter to the leads. 2. With the switch in to on position, the volt meter should read 12 volts minimum. If voltage is low recheck with engine running. Recheck wiring and connections (minimum 6 gauge wire must be used.) 3. Return switch to the neutral position & reattach leads to motor. 4. Attach volt meter to leads at the motor. 5. With the switch in the on position and the leads attached, the volt meter should read 8.5 volts minimum. If voltage is low recheck with engine running. Recheck wiring and connections (minimum 6 gauge wire must be used). 6. Return switch to the neutral position and attach amp meter to leads at the motor. 7. With the switch in the on position, amp meter should read approximately 30 amps. Constant amperage reading of over 50 amps indicated binding in the system and/or low voltage. 8. Disconnect 6 ga #10 terminal end from the solenoid side of the breaker. 9. Connect the 6 ga #10 terminal end to the battery side of the breaker. This will bypass the breaker. 10. Test the tarp system. If the motor operates properly then replace the breaker. Breaker 10
