Congratulations on your purchase of the COBB Tuning SS Catback Exhaust System for your 2010+ MAZDASPEED3. The following instructions will assist you through your installation process. Please read them first BEFORE beginning the install and familiarize yourself with the steps and tools needed. If you feel that you cannot properly perform this installation, we HIGHLY recommend you take the vehicle to a qualified and experienced automotive technician. Important! Before removing your stock exhaust system, make sure it is completely cool. Failure to do so can result in burns. Removal of Stock Exhaust 1. Place vehicle on jack stands on a level surface. Place blocks behind the rear tires. 2. Remove the eight (8) 12mm bolts that hold the mid-chassis brace to the vehicle and set it aside. It s heavy, so be careful when you re removing the last bolt. There are hooks that hold it in place but they don t always hold well. Copyright 2013 COBB Tuning Products LLC. 3. Remove the two (2) 14mm nuts and two springs that connect the mid-pipe to front of the exhaust system. Set the nuts, springs, and factory donut gasket aside for reuse with the COBB Catback Exhaust. *If the gasket shows excessive wear, you may want to purchase an OEM replacement gasket. 4. Remove the two (2) 14mm bolts that secure the factory mid-section to the rear muffler section. The factory exhaust should be loose and hanging freely on the factory exhaust hangers at this point. 5. Apply WD-40 or Silicone Spray lubricant to all of the factory exhaust hangers. 6. Using a flat-head screwdriver as leverage or Hanger Removal Pliers, pull the rear muffler section off of the exhaust hangers. Move the muffler section down and to the back of the vehicle to remove. You may need to bend and/or remove some of the factory heat shielding to do so. 7. Using a flat-head screwdriver as leverage or Hanger Removal Pliers, pull the front section of the exhaust off of the exhaust hangers. Remove the front section from the vehicle. Installation of COBB Catback Exhaust 1. With the old exhaust out of the way, go ahead and install the two upgraded COBB exhaust hangers if they came with your exhaust. The will install in place of the first two hangers that hold the exhaust.. 2. Raise the front section of the COBB Catback Exhaust into place on the hangers. Loosely install the factory bolts and springs to the front of the exhaust. Do not tighten them down all the way. Copyright 2013 COBB Tuning Products LLC. All Rights Reserved. www.cobbtuning.com 4
3. Move the mid- section of the COBB Catback Exhaust system in from the back of the vehicle and over the vehicle s rear sub-frame. Re-attach it to the factory exhaust hangers. (Tip: You may need to bend the factory heat shielding up and away from the mid-pipe in order to connect properly with the muffler section.) 4. Using the supplied bolts, nuts and gasket, loosely connect the first pipe to the mid-pipe. Do not tighten the bolts down at this time. 5. Raise the tip section of the COBB Catback Exhaust into place and re-attach it to the factory exhaust hangers. Using the supplied bolts, nuts and gasket, loosely connect the flanges. 6. Now that the entire exhaust is installed, starting from the front and working your way back, go through and tighten down all the nuts and bolts, making small adjustments when necessary to ensure a perfect fit 7. Reinstall the mid-chassis brace using a 12mm socket 8. Start the vehicle and check for exhaust leaks. If found, it may be necessary adjust the exhaust system by loosening and re-tightening the bolts, then re-testing for leaks. 9. Remove the vehicle from the jack stands. 10.
