Introduction Technical Description and Specifications of the VibraEnforcer Systems for Freeing Stuck Pipe in Drilling Operations Nordic Well Services and Advanced Drilling Support Services (ADSS) has identified a major requirement in the oil and gas drilling industry for the provision of a surface operated oscillation system to free stuck drillpipe and casing. The initial objective, of applying Surface Oscillation Units techniques to our industry, was to overcome some of the many issues surrounding freeing stuck pipe such as cost, number of loads, excessive crew sizes and environmental impact. The application of Surface Oscillation Units offers many benefits to the drilling and work over process. The very high costs and safety issues associated with applying conventional techniques has resulted in a certain degree renewed interest in searching for new and simplified solutions to some of the work over requirements. Main Benefits of VibraEnforcer Unit Simplified equipment Reduced number of crews Cost effective Increased well up time These first four reasons commonly sited as THE reason for considering using Oscillation Units and any other benefits are secondary. The secondary benefits of Oscillation Units include: Reduces drilling costs. Accelerates production In 1997 a Joint Industrial Project was formed between Statoil, Norsk Hydro, Shell International and Rogaland Research to develop technology to reduce friction and free stuck objects in the wellbore This led to the concept of reducing friction between drillstring and casing / open hole by introducing axial oscillations to the drill string. From 2000 throughout 2002 Nordic Well Services in conjunction with Rogaland Research Institution developed the following tools and systems:

Thru-Tubing and Drilling System 1. VibraHammer - for fishing of stuck pipe or objects with oscillations. 2. VibraBlaster - Oscillations are used to break down scale and liquidize settled out mud and debris 3. VibraReach - reducing friction in wellbores and extending the reach of the drillstring Surface Oscillation System 1. VibraEnforcer - for recovery of stuck pipe or casing in Drilling Operations The VibraEnforcer The VIBRAENFORCER SYSTEM generates controlled axial oscillations in the drill string from the rig floor. The system consists of vibration compensation cylinders, flow control valve and an oscillation generator. The system is activated through hydraulic flow rate manipulation controlled by the operator. The system represents an innovative technology for removing stuck tubulars and is a low risk alternative to conventional fishing operations. It is the most effective use of rig time while evaluating down hole methods! Resonance System: What does it imply? The Mechanical oscillator - generates axial movement The Work string - transmits resonant energy The Stuck member - fish to be recovered

The Effects of Oscillations n Great force applied at the stuck point. n Dilation and contraction of pipe body. n Fluidization. n Reduction of friction. Resonance Technology Freeing Stuck Objects in the Well bore: n Resonance is applied from surface and transmitted to the stuck area.

n The stuck pipe is subjected to cyclic loading that progress through the stuck interval from top to bottom. n Frictional resistance tends to decrease with resonance, the sticking problem will tend to degrade and the pipe can become free. The hoses shall be ½ inch OD, be minimum 3 meters long and shall be rated for 5000 PSI working pressure.
