Juralco Ampligrip Aluminium Grating System Juralco Aluminium Building Products Ltd designs and distributes specialist aluminium joinery systems through a national network of franchised fabricators and agents. 0 For more than 25 years we have been at the forefront of specialist aluminium door and window products suitable for New Zealand joinery and building methods. Our comprehensive product range includes security and insect screens, balustrades and gates, shutters and awnings, shower screens, wardrobe doors and organisers and internal doors. 0 The Ampligrip Aluminium Grating system is designed to provide light weight secure access systems suitable for extreme exterior environments. These systems are used throughout the world in manufacturing and processing plants, industrial and commercial buildings and complexes - wherever strong, economical, lightweight, safe, non-corrosive, non-sparking access is required. 0 Ampligrip aluminium grating is manufactured from slotted and stretched extrusion and is supplied in 6060-T5, 6060-T6 and 6063-T6 alloys. Ampligrip is a registered trade mark and refers exclusively to the unique manufacturing technique of the Ampliform process. This Guide is intended for use by Architects, Engineers, Specifiers and Fabricators Note: This Manual refers to the Grating System only. For Stair and Access Systems incorporating this Grating system plus a Hand rail system refer to the Guardsafe Manual. For Rooftop walkways incorporating this Grating system and rooftop supports refer to the Walkmaster Manual. Juralco Ampligrip Aluminium Grating System - Fabrication and Installation General Fabrication and Installatiion Bar Recommended Cutting line Chord Bar Recommended Cutting line 200 lightweight series 400 heavyweight series 1 CUTTING - The optimum cutting lines for both 200 & 400 Series Grating are shown above. When both ends of panels can be cut as shown, end bars are not essential, but may be required for multiple panel stability or attachment purposes. When length limitations preclude cutting through webs as shown, end bars are essential to restrain ends of load bars and chords. See Tech Data Sheets A. 2 and A. 3 for details of end bar fitting. 2 PATTERN MATCHING - Pattern matching is essential when using 200 Series Grating in a multiple panel situation, ie. where panels are welded together side by side. Pattern matching is not essential when using 400 Series Grating in a multiple panel situation unless the visual aspect is a design criterion. See Tech Data Sheet A. 5 and A. 5. 1 for details of multiple panel fabrication. 3 FASTENING- For a range of recommended fastening methods, see Tech Data Sheet A. 7 and A. 7.1. 4 WELDING- Prior to welding ensure that all surfaces are clean and free from any foreign material. Welding shall be in accordance with AS1665 SAA Aluminium Welding Code. Welds shall be 3mm fillet (unless stated otherwise) Quality B as defined in Section 6.1 Table 9. Filler rods shall conform to AS1588. After welding, clean adjacent surfaces with Gibson Chemicals Formula 511A (or equivalent) in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations and safety precautions. 5 EXPANSION ALLOWANCE - A minimum clearance/gap of 1.2mm per metre should be allowed for expansion when installing Ampligrip aluminium grating, within the temperature range 20 C to 70 C. 6 ISOLATION - When located in a permanent or recurring moist environment, Ampligrip aluminium grating is best supported on aluminium or another compatible material, such as stainless steel. to avoid galvanic corrosion. Where other support materials such as timber, concrete. steel. etc. are employed. it is recommended that a nonaggressive impervious membrane is used between contacting surfaces. Due consideration should be given to the severity of environment when specifying the isolation medium to ensure that deterioration does not occur as the result of exposure to sunlight (UV), perishing (ozone) or chemical breakdown. Commonly used materials are EPDM. neoprene or bituminous felt. Alternatively surface coatings of galvanising, zincalume. zinc chromate. zinc rich or bituminous paint may also be suitable.
