4 The Lighting Hoist is designed for supporting luminaires or scenery within studios or other buildings that are provided with complete weather protection and where it is guaranteed that no water will be applied to the hoist. The Lighting hoist uses pairs of wire ropes to support the pipe or rail and, if required, one or more pairs of ropes carry a folding power supply cable system to suit the travel range, while the associated outlet sockets required for luminaires are mounted above the pipe. The Scenery hoist has wire ropes attached to load attachment features. The equivalent A-weighted noise level at work stations is below 70dB(A). Each hoist includes the following components: Winding unit with electric motor and limit switches. Set of diverter units. Self folding cable system. Wire ropes. A separate pipe or Studio Rail for load carrying. An appropriate length of Unistrut P 1000 T. Socket boxes with circuit outlet sockets and interconnecting conduit. Winder The Winder unit is selected to suit voltage and frequency for the three phase supply. Variation of gearmotors can provide a choice of hoist speed. Diverter Units. The diverter unit is a device which guides the wire ropes from the Winder to the load carring Pipe/Rail. The four rope hoist has two diverters, for 6 ropes and 8 ropes there is an additional diverter for each pair of ropes. Each diverter unit is fitted with load sensing switches which monitor any slack ropes and overloadng. Wire Ropes. The pipe or rail may be suspended on 4, 6 or 8 wire ropes. These are in pairs for lighting hoists where the power cables are guided by a pair of wire ropes. Elsewhere the ropes may be in pairs or may be evenly spaced along the pipe. For 6 and 8 rope hoists a cable guide is required between the Winder and adjacent diverter to guide the wire rope correctly to the diverter beyond. Pipe/Rail length. Each hoist carries a pipe or rail for attachment of luminaires etc. The length of the pipe/rail is selected to suit each hoist according to site requirements. The load will be a be a number of luminaires and/or suspension equipments, arranged so not to exceed the evenly distributed Safe Working Load for the hoist. Mounting. The winding unit and the diverter units are designed to be suspended below a length of Unistrut type reference P 1000 T. Each hoist is supplied with the required length of Unistrut.

5 Socket boxes. The 4 rope lighting hoist can be fitted with up to 8 outlet sockets. These are normally CEE type to BS 4343 ; IEC and EN Outlets are rated at 240 volts and there is a choice of 16 or 32 amp type. Adaptor plates enable many other types of outlet to be fitted, to suit particular requirements. For four rope, 6 and 8 rope arrangements, one socket box can be provided per pair of wire ropes, while up to four sockets can be fitted to each socket box. Cable assembly. The folding cable system will include flatform cable that is either 12 ways of 13AWG/2.5mm²; or 24 ways. Other cables can also be carried such as DMX enabling a wide variety of outlets to be supplied. Rating Label The rating label identifies the hoist and lists electrical power requirements for the motor, the maximum travel dimension and the rope spacing. An example is illustrated at Appendix 2 and the label is located at the winding unit. Connections Power connections are required for the motor, and separate control connections are required for the load sensors and limit switches. Crimp connectors are provided for connection of control wiring to the hoists. The schematic circuit for each hoist is shown in Appendix 3. Control system All hoists within one studio should be controlled by one integrated control system, and this may enable selected hoists to be grouped to run together. However each hoist must be connected to an Anti-chatter circuit in accordance with Appendix 3. The anti-chatter circuit ensures that overload and slack rope inhibiters operate correctly and without chatter. The anti-chatter circuit holds the lower circuit inhibited after momentary slack rope condition, and this hold is only released by selecting raise, or by interrupting the supply. Similarly, the raise circuit is held inhibited in the event of momentary overload. SAFETY WARNING! Hoists are supplied for installation within a suitable building.it is the sole responsibility of the purchaser of the hoists to ensure that the strength of the building is adequate for the weight of fully loaded hoists, and for overload testing at 125% Safe Working Load. The purchaser of the hoists must ensure adequate structural strength for the mounting points for each hoist.
