NOTE: There is no provision for Designated Trainers in this compulsory trade. Trades Qualifi es can apply to challenge the exam through the TQ process. The application and information sheet can be found at under Skilled Worker. Instructions You are about to complete the Work Experience Form (WEF) which is based on the sub-tasks outlined in the National Occupational Analysis (NOA). The NOA provides detailed information that will assist you when completing the WEF and is your best source for identifying any training gaps. The link to the NOA is Complete the following Work Experience Form and rate your experience for each sub-task. Circle #0 if I have no experience doing this. Circle #1 if I have a little experience doing this. Circle #2 if I have some experience doing this with help. Circle #3 if I have some experience doing this alone and unaided. 2 Block A Boom Truck Lift Planning and Inspection 1. Consults off-site regarding technical specifications and resources Clarifies on-site and off-site roles, responsibilities, and other job requirements Reviews work order specifi cations. 2. Consults on-site regarding technical specifications and resources Confi rms designation and capabilities of signal person/rigger Verifi es suitability of site characteristics regarding boom truck operation. 3. Selects boom truck equipment and attachments Reconciles load characteristics with equipment capabilities Inspects, installs, and assembles boom truck attachments. Block B Boom Truck Set-Up and Operation 4. Complies with all safety requirements Reviews job specifi cations and safety requirements with crew Monitors, adapts to, and communicates about changing job requirements. 5. Sets up and operates stiff-boom (SB) boom truck Interprets SB boom truck load charts regarding job requirements Relocates/ secures SB boom truck, including manual extension.

Sets up and operates knuckle-boom (KB) boom truck Interprets KB truck load charts regarding job requirements Sets up, secures, and relocates KB truck Operates KB truck, including low-clearance lifts Complies with KB shutdown and boom stowage procedures. Block C Boom Truck Specialties 7. Operates personnel-lift boom truck Selects and operates permanently-attached buckets from aloft Selects and operates removable buckets with lower controls and other personnel. 8. Performs boom truck hoisting of specialty machinery and equipment Assists in identifying technical requirements for hoisting specialty machinery Interprets all relevant lift documentation Prepares and completes signed work order Communicates and consults with manufacturer and clients Performs engineered lift of specialty equipment and/ or machinery.

Performs boom truck hoists of structural members and other building components Evaluates lift-related information provided by other job-site personnel Negotiates with other job-site personnel Hoists and positions structural steel members Hoists and stabilizes bent (timberframe sub-assembly) during bracing Lifts and positions timberframe roof members. 10. Operates digger-derrick boom trucks Drills holes with auger Erects and salvages poles and pole-structures Installs and removes anchors regarding pole-structures Installs and salvages streetlight standards, bases, etc Hoists line hardware and equipment regarding power-line installations Hauls pole trailer and other wheeled attachments. 11. Performs multi-crane lifts using boom trucks Participates in multi-crane lift planning regarding equipment capacity, etc Assesses and identifi es need for multi-crane approach Consults and coordinates effort with a second operator.

Prepares boom truck for transport Verifi es suitability of boom truck for specifi c load requirements Performs pre-trip inspection regarding truck, boom, and rigging Confi rms boom truck route and destination. 13. Secures boom truck load Interprets and complies with all relevant regulations regarding load securement Selects and uses appropriate load-securement devices. 14. Drives boom truck Complies with all compliance regulations and licensing requirements Adapts to changing conditions (weather, roads, etc.). 15. Completes documentation regarding boom truck transport and hauling Clarifies documentation requirements Complies with documentation requirements. Block E Boom Truck Maintenance 16. Communicates about mechanical performance Performs and arranges for scheduled maintenance Maintains boom truck maintenance-related documentation.
6 17. Monitors and troubleshoots boom truck equipment Monitors and troubleshoots mechanical performance of boom components Responds to mechanical problems. Inspects slings and rigging equipment Interprets coding and other documentation regarding slings Selects slings and other rigging equipment Inspects and applies slings and other rigging equipment operation Improvises and adapts rigging using equipment on hand Consults and cooperates with rigger and other job-site personnel about rigging Verifi es and confi rms compliance with rigging standards and approved procedures.
